iman Posted May 24, 2014 Share #1 Posted May 24, 2014 Hi everyone, I happy with this project and due to some needs I'm interesting to try asustor ADM from http://www.asustor.com as it looks promising and more feature rich. I know most of you will not like the idea, But I can work on it with some support from from the community and let's see where it will goes. OK here what I did so far, Visited http://www.asustor.com/service/downloads?product_id=21 Downloaded http://download.asustor.com/download/adm/AS-2XX_2.1.1.R3B2.img Remove the header (261 bytes) of the file "AS-2XX_2.1.1.R3B2.img" Extracted the file after removing the header Booted the resulted file "bzImage" in vmware but stuck in "Switching to clocksource tsc"! Other Ref http://sourceforge.net/projects/asgpl/ So either I go to recompile using source from sourceforge or What?

iman Posted May 24, 2014 Author Share #3 Posted May 24, 2014 >>How do you know to remove the header (261 bytes) of the file "AS-2XX_2.1.1.R3B2.img" ? Just quick look at the file in HEX mode showed that. thanks for debug info (more information about environment please). So I can translate it to that We shall start debugging the kernel (Task 1). Task 2 - We need to decide should we patch the original file or shall We compile from source ? Task 3 - We need to decide should We keep it here or move it to anther website something XPSTOR ? sancome Posted May 24, 2014 Share #4 Posted May 24, 2014 We need to get initramfs first, only the kernel is not enough, look this: [ 1.433577] Please append a correct "root=" boot option; here are the available partitions: I boot the kernel on a physical machine, not virtualized environment. iman Posted May 24, 2014 Author Share #5 Posted May 24, 2014 the ramfs is in remain part of the file after tar part. The kernel is only about 2.3MB only But the total file is 93MB so the remain part is the ram fs i expect.

iman Posted May 25, 2014 Author Share #14 Posted May 25, 2014 I will stick to "AS-2XX_2.1.1.R3B2.img" for now as my target is to have a working media in first place. I will dig a bit in source code from sourceforge and will see where I get
liwei Posted May 25, 2014 Share #15 Posted May 25, 2014 How about AS-6XX_2.1.1.R3B2.img with kernel 3.7.9 ? i can't split it, it is different. Hi sancome, The file structure is same, but the use bzip2 compressed the tar archive. Just use the following command to extract those files: bzImage: tail -c +262 AS-6XX_2.1.1.R3B2.img | bunzip2 | tar xf - initramfs: tail -c +3109163 AS-6XX_2.1.1.R3B2.img | bunzip2 | tar xf - builtin.tgz: tail -c +13189717 AS-6XX_2.1.1.R3B2.img | bunzip2 | tar xf - Good luck! iman Posted May 25, 2014 Author Share #16 Posted May 25, 2014 Also regarding the "AS-6XX_2.1.1.R3B2.img" it's almost the same with one small difference that parts are compressed with bzip2 and I had successfully extracted all files form it. loeufdur Posted May 31, 2014 Share #18 Posted May 31, 2014 Hi everyone, I'm interrested by your project, cause i'm looking for a project like xpenology with xbmc player integrated in. That's what does asustor's adm. I'm a very beginner on linux. Is there is a web site about your project that can help me to build a home made nas? Thanks and excuse me for my poor English Loeufdur

vlotho Posted July 4, 2014 Share #20 Posted July 4, 2014 Hi all, by splitting the file "AS-2XX_2.1.1.R3B2.img" if 4 parts using following information : Title Offset(HEX) Offset(DEC) Size (DEC) --------------- ---------------- ---------------- ---------------- header 00000000 0 261 bzImage 00000105 261 2324481 initramfs 00237906 2324742 10045441 builtin.tgz 00BCC107 12370183 to EOF Then untar each split. Hope this help. Next I will try to boot again. hi, sizes, in your tables, in the right hand column take account of 0 ( offset ) ? therefore the ranks must be removed one at every time, right? 0 - 260 261 - 2324480 2324742 - 10045440 12370183 - EOF ? vlotho Posted July 4, 2014 Share #21 Posted July 4, 2014 ah! but I have version 2.2, this may not be the same values?! because in the header i'have : #!/bin/sh model=AS-6XX version=2.2.0.B5F3 kernel_skip=17 initramfs_size=10929240 initramfs_skip=12070 builtinfs_size=84739413 builtinfs_skip=54242 script_line=384105 md5sum=01e80d49eb0bf6a06b4ed49c1f7f7a67 echo "" echo "$0 [options]" echo "" exit 0; if I take the same values as you, counting the offset in my range, I can open the archive bzImage but not extract it. Nothing in builtin.tgz, which nevertheless 86Mo. impossible to mount initramfs with sudo mount -o loop /initramfs /media/prout
vlotho Posted July 4, 2014 Share #22 Posted July 4, 2014 (edited) untar work for bzImage tail -c +3109163 AS-6XX_2.2.0.B5F3.img | bunzip2 | tar xf - bunzip2: (stdin) is not a bzip2 file. tar: Ceci ne ressemble pas à une archive de type « tar » tar: Arrêt avec code d'échec à cause des erreurs précédentes tail -c +13189717 AS-6XX_2.2.0.B5F3.img | bunzip2 | tar xf - bunzip2: (stdin) is not a bzip2 file. tar: Ceci ne ressemble pas à une archive de type « tar » tar: Arrêt avec code d'échec à cause des erreurs précédentes Edited July 6, 2014 by Guest
vlotho Posted July 5, 2014 Share #23 Posted July 5, 2014 what do you mean by: "Switching to clocksource tsc" for me, with bzImage extracted via tail, the virtual machine does not boot.
vlotho Posted July 6, 2014 Share #24 Posted July 6, 2014 (edited) I tried to take the original file, version 2.1.1 for 2xx, all files unpacks properly with the control files, except for the initramfs. I can mount the archive but not extract it. I have a message that the archive is truncated. Yet I have taken the same values as the table. And in the archive, I do not have control files that appear. edit : problem resolved, i have 9 files, but i dont know boot the bzImage file ... Vortex Posted July 6, 2014 Share #25 Posted July 6, 2014 Here is universal extractor script: [spoiler=extract.sh] #!/bin/sh for pos in `grep -abo "BZh91AY" $1` do pos=${pos%%:*} tail -c +$((pos+1)) $1 | bunzip2 | tar xf - done Run example: ./extract.sh AS-6XX_2.2.0.R6O2.img
