DSM 6.x auf einen IBM x3650 M2 Booten und Install.

CQTIT

Question

Ich habe eine CD für einen IBM x3650 M2,

Hardware:

8 CPUs x Intel (R) Xeon (R) CPU E5530 @ 2.40GHz

RAM 128 GB - PC3-10600

BIOS-Überprüfung - [D6E164AUS-1.22] -

RAIDKONTROLLER: ServeRAID-BR10i-Adapter (LSI 1068E)

SAS-Festplatten 12 x 600 GB

My plan is to create a boot cd (stick) for an IBM x3650 M2,

Hardware:

8 CPUs x Intel (R) Xeon (R) CPU E5530 @ 2.40GHz

RAM 128 GB - PC3-10600

BIOS version: - [D6E164AUS-1.22] -

RAID Controller: ServeRAID-BR10i adapter (LSI 1068E)

SAS hard disks 12 x 600 GB

Problem is that I do not find a suitable boot image, continue when he finally started up, SynalogyAssistant finds no IP and can not install, although I have adjusted the MAC in the config.

Can someone create for this system a suitable ISO where all drivers are present?

Already thanks for the help!

Hello, and welcome :-)

The secret language might be:

Read all the FAQ's, and then  post all the info you have on your hardware and be specific in what you have allready tried.

Before thinking of a CD-ISO, let's start with a USB boot stick. (do you know your VID/PID?)

What bootloader did you allready try?

What NIC do you have? (make/model)?

OK,

first thing, your NIC seems to be BroadCom based, BCM5709.

Here I found:

Quote

just picked up this old dell poweredge T310 server and having no luck with the 6.1 loader.

the network card is a BCM5709C Dual Port NIC and it is listed as supported and clearly works on 6.0.2 loader but not on 6.1

the same USB 6.1 works on other servers so i know it's not the USB

anyone using the same nic on 6.1?

So it seems that NIC needs some "help" to work with DSM versions higher than 6.0.2.

Let's see if that is correct:

Go here and first download and try Jun's loader v1.01 DS3615xs

Make sure you read and follow the related info/tutorial.

If the above refuses to boot, try the Jun's loader v1.01 DS3615xs with MBR partition found on the same page.

btw:

do you have any spare NIC's, known to work with 6.x to try if averything else fails?

btw2:

You can use a free ESXi license on your NAS,  :-) no cost.

It is a bit strange that you get as new in here in the forum no answer, is there a secret language to get answers?

I would like to bring DSM 6 to an IBM x3650 M2 without ESXI. Has anyone made any experiences with it or who can help me?

Thank you for your answer,

Unfortunately, I can not offer you more information. Have already tried with all boot loader, have adapted the config have also added extra3617_v4.8 to have a larger selection of drivers and nothing works. Man sees only the Corsor flashing and that's it, on ESXI 6.5 it runs perfectly but I would like it without ESXI on the hardware. Since I still have a par of the server around here and still have accumulated over time, a lot of data. In addition, the ESXI Licensen are slowly too expensive for me.

BTW2:

You can use a free ESXi license on your NAS for free

Yes, but we have many servers in use where we need the licenses and with a free license is very limited in the functions. I would like to get rid of that by running DSM directly on the servers without ESXI.

1 hour ago, CQTIT said:

nothing worked out fast, Corsor stands, no pit no picture..

So, you get NO boot indication on screen, NO messages?

(and then ofcource, no DHCP reguest to your DHCP server?)

If so, your boot USB is not working at all I guess, try booting any other computer from it.

So, you want to run your NAS in an actual production environment?

I was under the impression that you where trying to "recycle" an old server no longer in productional use,

in such case the free ESXi host running DSM, would not be limiting you in any way.

Next things to try:

0 - Read the manual for your server, make sure it can boot from USB, doublecheck all settings in BIOS (primary boot device/legacy etc.).

1 - Find yourself a NIC, verified to work with DSM.

2 - Make a DSM 5.2 based USB bootloader, and verify it's working (by booting any computer).

3 - Test DSM 5.2 on your server, with original and new NIC, verify what's working or not.

4 - Make a DSM 6.0.x based USB bootloader, and verify it's working (by booting any computer)..

5 - Test DSM 6.0.x on your server, with original and new NIC, verify what's working or not.

6 - Make a DSM 6.0.x based USB bootloader, and verify it's working (by booting any computer)..

7 - Test DSM 6.1.x on your server, with original and new NIC, verify what's working or not.

8 - Get drunk, it's Friday ;-)

I would not recommend running XPE/DSM in a 'Production' business environment, its not 'designed' for that. Check out FreeNAS, NAS4Free or (best option and closest to DSM) Open Media Vault. (OMV).

If your CTO/CIO is happy for you to use 'pirate' software ( :) ) then your best option might be disable the onboard broadcom NICs, install a dual port Intel (you probably have loads in the spares box) and work with that

no, we do not intend to do that either. It is for internal use only, but customers and employees need to be able to access quickly. there is no access to the internet, but only to the intranet. but we have more than 10000 TB of data here and our employees and customers need access to it. But maybe you're pretty sure it's safe until I find a solution with DSM. There are already many ISPs that use DSM in racks, think they would not do it if it were unsafe.
