Polanskiman Posted March 28, 2018 Share #1 Posted March 28, 2018 I am looking for a DVB-T2 dongle. Anyone could recommend one that works well with DSM 6.1.5 and is not too expensive? Thanks
1 IG-88 Posted April 1, 2018 Share #2 Posted April 1, 2018 (edited) i dint think this will be capable of dvb-t2 https://www.augustint.com/en/productmsg-34-52.html they are not so explicit about what dvb is supported but if you have a closer look at the packages it only contains a dvb-t logo the newer product T305 https://www.augustint.com/en/productmsg-34-255.html has a dvb-t2 logo on the package, so i guess the T202 will not be able to handle dvb-t2 (different modulation -> different hardware needed, it like dvb-s to dvb-s2) edit: amazon comments (depending on language) clearly show that T202 cant handle dvb-t2 Edited April 1, 2018 by IG-
1 IG-88 Posted April 1, 2018 Share #3 Posted April 1, 2018 (edited) the synology device db does conains at least one dvb-t2 device "PCTV DVB-T2 290e/292e nanoStick" it might be possible to dig out what chipset it contains and find a cheaper one with the same chipset but not guaranties the cheaper one will work, differences in the tuner chip might be a problem in that area Edited April 1, 2018 by IG-

0 john_matrix Posted March 30, 2018 Share #5 Posted March 30, 2018 I use this one (20€): https://www.amazon.fr/August-DVB-T202-Récepteur-Enregistreur-Tuner/dp/B00527OCT6/ Works very good and natively recognized by VideoStation and TVHeadend-testing (4.4)
0 Polanskiman Posted March 31, 2018 Author Share #6 Posted March 31, 2018 Thanks. Not entirely sure what the 02 after the T2 means. Anything meaningful or just some marketing bla bla? Reason I ask is because I need the dongle to be DVB-T2

Looking at the T305 it's for tablets and phones with micro usb. I guess an adapter would be needed. 56 minutes ago, IG-88 said: the synology device db does conains at least one dvb-t2 device "PCTV DVB-T2 290e/292e nanoStick" it might be possible to dig out what chipset it contains and find a cheaper one with the same chipset but not guaranties the cheaper one will work, differences in the tuner chip might be a problem in that area Yes I had already seen that one but it was kind of expensive. Over 80USD!

Over 80USD! yes, that was my thought too, often you can find information about the hardware from people who tried it with linux, also possible to habe a look into the windows drivers and inf files to find out whats behind the fancy name there is also a alternative if you find a sat>ip based solution with dvb-t2 this one is a (expansive) example https://digitaldevices.de/produkte/netzwerk-tv-tuner/ if you have 2 or more tuners in mind sat>ip solutions come in handy as you dont have to care about usb or pci-e

Yeah that's a bit overkill for what I need I will look into the PCTV DVB-T2 290e/292e nanoStick "copies" see if I can find anything.

That one seems more reasonably priced and have confirmed through some youtube video that it works in the country I live. You didn't have to compile any module? 0 seba Posted April 2, 2018 Share #13 Posted April 2, 2018 I did have to. Was building it from media_tree since drivers where mainlined since 3.19. I created script that packaged everything in spk.
0 Polanskiman Posted April 2, 2018 Author Share #14 Posted April 2, 2018 That’s a deal braker for me as from DSM 6.2 it seems modules will be signed. Don't want to start compiling modules. I might have to change my plans and use a tuner dongle compatible with my nvidia shield tv.
0 Polanskiman Posted April 3, 2018 Author Share #15 Posted April 3, 2018 The WINTV DUAL DVB-T TUNER 1172 / 01407 Tuner is also a DVB-T2 tuner but sill pricy....grrr always something not right. The good thing is that it is compatible with with DSM 3615xs out of the box and with my Nvidia Shield TV.

Especially with this note in 6.2 beta Known Issues & Limitations ..... Starting from DSM 6.2, the USB device drivers, including printers, cloud printers, DAC/speakers, Wi-Fi dongles, DTV dongles, LTE dongles, and Bluetooth dongles, will no longer be updated. ..... That tells it all. A network tuner seems the way to go then to be future proof.

My cable provider switched to encrypted channels two years ago which made T230 is useless. Edited September 6, 2020 by seba
