PPTP doesn't work in current build. Ib 5.2-5922 it did work afaik.
OpenVPN still works and is much more secure than PPTP.
May i advice you to use OpenVPN?

E212 means:
For some reason the file you are writing to cannot be created or overwritten.
The reason could be that you do not have permission to write in the directory
or the file name is not valid.

DISCLAIMER!
I’ll take no responsibility for any loss of data or any other problem caused by following this tutorial.
Reinstall DSM (eg 5.2-5644) without losing the data on Volume:
01. Enable SSH if it`s not & connect to SYNOLOGY
02. Open & edit the file \etc.defaults\VERSION
03. Exchange the data with one of previous ver.:
majorversion="5" minorversion="2" buildphase="0" buildnumber="5592" builddate="2012/12/05"
04. Save & Exit
05. Restart Synology
06. Launch Synology Assistant
07. Click 'Search'
08. If you've done everything correctly you'll see a new 'DiskStation' has been found.
09. Disconnect the USB flash drive from the computer for this next step
10. Right-click the new 'DiskStation' and choose 'Install'
11. Browse and select the same version (5.2-5644.pat) which U already running
12. Choose a Name for the DiskStation, a new default admin password and IP configuration
13. After installation is complete the DiskStation will reboot automatically.
14. Power it OFF manually now
15. Isert the same USB Flash drive (5.2-5644.img) back into PC
16. Power on PC & DSM will boot normally
17. In Synology Assistant click 'Search' again
18. Depending on the name and network config you chose during installation you will see now a DiskStation has been found with the NAME you chose.

Yes, you can, but if you have an SHR array it will be in an degraded state when you boot.

DSM is installed on a partition on each disk.
Therefore, dsm won't fail if 1 harddrive crashes.

I must thank you all for your input, lots to read up for now maybe some more questions later, I think the i5 route is key for me. and as was said earlier atom cpu's are limited in the transcoding world and not to sure if 8 cores would be supported by the Xpenology not that i was thinking of going that route. Just going to start the VMware requirements and will take more advice later.
Why is it that the supported hardware list does not show suitable motherboards reading through chip controllers is a pain unless i missed something obvious.
Will be added in next version, good idea =).

I know,to it should work with SurveillanceStation-x86-7.1-4141.spk?
But strange is that no native bromolow version is released till now...
I don't think so. Bromolow is x64 afaik.

Looks awesome! Idea: replace the big thumbdrive with a smaller one, so it won't break when someone bump the case.

I run ownCloud on my Xpenology, is fast =).
As for security camera's, i don't know how your russian is, but in the russian forum section i've seen a Survailance station with 99 cam license.
How many camera's are you going to attatch? Will they record 24/7 or just when there is motion?
I don't know the plex preformance of the C2550 maybe another user can shine some light on this.

abced, you don't need to worry about the usb stick being turned on.
The power it consumes is less than your cpu consumes .

Drivers for controlling a Buffalo Terastation are not in the Synology DiskStation.
As those are 2 different brand they won't need to support each other.

Here another happy user.
First in a vm to test it, then i switched to bare metal.
Speeds are great, support is good, and the community is awesome =).
As for your hardware, what are your requirements?
Going to do alot of VM / plex? Or just for storage / owncloud?
