  1. just a question: i have actally a VM with HDD1 - IDE - VMDK with Xpenoboot HDD2 - SCSI - 16GB VDMK where I suppose DSM got installed from Xpenoboot and it's booted everytime I restart the VM I still didn't attach any big drive, but I'm planning on attaching 2 real drives in RDM mode to let the Synology VM use them as single volume with SHR I thought the apps would have been installed in the actuall HDD2 alongside with the DSM but it's not like that? So should I add a 3rd VMDK disk, make it a single volume using Synology Control Panel to install the apps? if I try to use the 16GB HDD to make a volume it will delete everything, DSM included so it's not a good choice. But can I use a smaller size HDD for DSM then? In a tutorial I read the second drive I'll added should have been used for apps, that's while I made it 16GB larger.. thanks for explanation
  2. if you go bare metal can you still create some VMs inside XPenology with some packages? I saw that QNAP sw has Qemu for this, but I think I've read somewhere here that for XPenology there's a package to enable virtualization as for Qnap, am I right?
  3. hi, I was in the middle of buying a NAS for my home and was really undecided between synology and qnap. There were some nice products but they cost a lost. In the meanwhile I found the possibility to buy a Microserver and install XPenology with a lower impact on costs and maybe better performance, am I right? I thought that HP N54L was the perfect choice but actually it's not so easy to find one at cheap prices, it seems that G8 is quite more available. So I found this thread and wanna ask: stated the "workaround" above, would you now suggest to buy a G8 over a G7, or is the N54L still a preferred choice if found? and a little question not in topic: what does one loose with XPenology on x86 hw over a pure Sinology NAS? (if there is any difference) thanks a lot
