KaKi87 Posted November 17, 2023 Share #1 Posted November 17, 2023 Hi, I cheaply bought a 10-bay Synology RackStation, more specifically, the RS2212+. It is currently maintained on DSM 6 but will be abandoned in the end of next year. Could I use XPEnology to upgrade it to DSM 7 ? Thanks
Fox Mulder Posted November 17, 2023 Share #2 Posted November 17, 2023 That's an interesting question. I wouldn't really know, but at a guess, I'd say that won't be possible as I'm not sure Synology boxes are built to act like standard PCs. You could try at your own peril. apejovic Posted November 18, 2023 Share #3 Posted November 18, 2023 Hi, its a long time ago but I was reading similar to this a couple of years ago in this forum. As far as I remember the synology wasn't made for newer dsm and the user installed xpenology on it. The bootloader must be changed in the original box. You need backup via Uboot. Try to Google it
KaKi87 Posted November 18, 2023 Author Share #4 Posted November 18, 2023 il y a 5 minutes, apejovic a dit : Try to Google it I did search before posting, but found nothing, except one post of someone else in the same situation as me who asked and got no answer, and not even here but on Reddit. Also, all "synology to xpenology" results are about migrating drives, not migrating the OS. Thanks

apejovic Posted November 18, 2023 Share #6 Posted November 18, 2023 (edited) Also this one could be worth a try Maybe you have to play with thw original hdd to get it worked. Use a clean hdd, install dsm on your synology system and try that one. Edited November 18, 2023 by apejovic
