Thank you for you response, how do you disable the raid card? At the moment i dont have a hardware raid configured.

Did younhave any problem with hdd not found after install? Did younhave to make changesnto bios?
i am trying to install it on my gen8 butt getting the error hdd not found
I disabled the onboard raid card and set SATA to AHCI mode from memory. Try disabling the onbard raid first and see how you go.

Not all is lost my friend, there is always FreeNas, OpenMedia Vault. Which are very good also....
Don't feel bad I bought a Dell T1700 and it won't work with the latest loader and I have the proper hardware.
So i'm using loader 1.02b on it for now...till there is a fix ...
Yeah I agree and it cant hurt to learn the others as well, but you get used to a certain way of doing things Sorry to hear about the Dell, have you tried @IG-88 extra drivers?
-
Is it likely that we will ever see a release for the older builds for those of us who aren't running the latest and greatest? stupidly bought a Gen8 server which is now redundant. @Polanskiman@jun

Gen7 HP N54L Microserver A ok!

N54L upgrade working after a reboot from cron job script that just the update files and move them if not available..

Mind to share why you recompiled the kernel and what features you added?
The silence on this question is off putting, I hope you answer it @khile. Wish there more sharing both from Jun and others... like @IG-88 's drivers guide. I can understand not sharing it so its harder for Synology but cmon!@

Khile's bootloader included a bunch of modules for AMD N54L. USB 1.1 working, etc.
Can you check if this bootloader has these modules?
Neotronic's file is just the standard 1.02b release from jun, i doubt it will work.

I tested it under ESXi and it worked flawlessly. The only thing that I must do after the update to the newest version is to copy the kernel modules.

Khile can u update it to the 1.02b loader that jun released? so we dont have to copy the kernel modules across?

Yeah the 410j cant go past 5.2, hence me asking.
-
Has anyone tried getting an older version of the official Synology units to go past DSM 5.2?
-
Now I'm wondering how I could revert to 6.0.2 update 11, the latest version that worked best on my Gen8 bare-metal.
Thanks.

i have 1.02a running 3617xs in virtual box, using the intel pro 1000/mt desktop (bridge mode with the hardware nic) and i gave the nic the mac that was used inside the synoboot.vmdk image (on IDE controller) - try to set the mac propperly so synoimage and vm nic using the same mac?
for the disks used in dsm6.1 the vm has to use scsi controller/disks
Thanks for the feedback! yeah I had set the MAC the same as the one in the VM nic, will give it another try this week.

You can use the Intel Pro/1000 T Server.
Yeah that is what I was using, doesn't seem to boot properly though. Using the same settings on a Ubuntu live disc results in a network connection but not with the v1.02a2 img weird. Will start fresh and see how I go.

I converted the .img to .iso. There is a plethora of software on the internet that can do that. If you are on a MAC you can simply use the Disk Utility to convert the .img file to .cdr and then simply rename the extension to .iso. Just make sure the image format is DVD/CD Master when you convert it.
Turns out the vboxmanage convertdd command did convert it ok, it was the PC i was using it on didn't have VT-x. Now to work out why I am not getting an IP address in bridged mode, which Network card did you select?
-
I tested both D3617xs and DS916+ with loader v1.02a2. There seems to be an issue with the DS916+. This was done under VirtualBox. Below the logs:
How did you convert the synoboot.img to vdi or similar? I tried converting through vboxmanage convertdd but now my PC is rebooting on me every time I try to start the virtual?

God this thread is already confusing enough without having to log in and see ( was "A new loader for latest DSM").
Making it sound like something went wrong and searching the thread for 15 min looking for info only to find nothing.
Yup lets make this thread a bit more of a mess to navigate
I think we need to split this thread into FAQ. Confirmed HW, support requests and a read only thread for devs to post updates.
Hardware thread http://xpenology.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=22802
Support thread http://xpenology.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=22801
FAQ's should be in the second post on this thread which should also become the Dev announcement one.

Has anyone got a known working set of ds918 (or 3615/3617) files for Virtualbox without any drives? For the life of me I cannot get it to show up on the network. Couple of years ago it worked perfectly, but not I cant get any of the versions to load in Virtualbox.
Have changed mac address correctly, have even tried converting the img straight to vmdk but nothing
