  1. good point. I was still on the ds3615xs, and think I will stay, as I want to be able to migrate the system. That said, would it be possible to add a new, remove all the existing drives, install DSM 6 on the new empty drive, and later on add the old drives?
  2. ooh, here info (only for plex pass users): http://forums.plex.tv/discussion/250946/plex-media-server-hardware-transcoding-preview-1-4-0/p1 Happy holidays, forum users! We've got something special in store for you with this release: it enables hardware transcoding for Windows, macOS, and Linux for Plex Pass users. Using hardware transcoding reduces CPU usage and power consumption, and may substantially improve transcoding performance. This is a special forums-only preview release; the changes in this build will be included in a regular release once any new issues are handled. Hardware transcoding requires a 64-bit Intel CPU on Linux, ideally from a recent generation (Haswell or later), and will use the primary graphics adapter on Windows and macOS. The only supported codec for encoding is H.264. On Linux and Windows, decoding of both H.264 and HEVC are supported. On macOS only H.264 is supported. Hardware-encoded video may not have the same quality as software-encoded video. Please test this version with a variety of different media file formats and clients. If you notice any new issues, please respond to this discussion instead of starting a new one, and include your Plex Media Server logs and a sample file that reproduces the issue. If you're running Windows, you should always uninstall preview releases before installing another preview release or an official release. This won't affect your library or personal data at all, and it will work around some Windows installer-related issues. EDIT: These links have been updated to point to a new beta (build 3224). Download links: Computer Mac OS X (10.9 or newer) Windows (Windows 7 or newer) Ubuntu (Intel 64-bit) Fedora/CentOS (Intel 64-bit) NAS NETGEAR ReadyNAS OS 6 (Intel) QNAP (Intel 64-bit (QTS-4.3 or newer)) UnRAID (Intel 64-bit) ASUSTOR (Intel 64-bit) Thecus (Intel 64-bit) Seagate (Intel) Synology (Intel x64) WD MyCloud DL2100, WD MyCloud DL4100, WD MyCloud PR2100, WD MyCloud PR4100 Release notes (1.4.0.3173): Known issues: At the moment we only support Intel graphics for hardware decoding. You can try using another graphics adapter, and it may or may not work. We're interested in hearing about your experiences either way. EDIT: Release notes (1.4.0.3224): NEW: (macOS) OS version 10.8 is no longer supported. (#6155) FIXES: (Windows) A memory leak in the transcoder. (macOS) Transcodes targeting resolutions lower than 480p broke with hardware encoding. (macOS) Transcodes with Matroska output (Chrome, PMP…) weren't working on some hardware. EDIT (by StSimm1): Release updated onto a 1.6.0 base (see 1.6.0 release notes) EDIT: In order to support hardware transcoding on Linux, you'll need to add the PMS user to the "video" group. You can do this by running usermod -aG video plexmediaserver as root, substituting "plexmediaserver" for the name of the Plex user on your system. Future versions will handle this automatically on install or upgrade. EDIT 2: If you'd like to use this preview with Docker, see this post for installation details. The source code of the transcoder is available here.
  3. I just upgraded to plex pass, as that is needed. however it only works on dsm 6.0+ so will first need to upgrade. will report back after I know more. For now apparently there is the possibility to use the GPU fro intel pc's. so fingers crossed this will help....
  4. has anyone tried the plex beta with hardware transcoding option on the q1900? Wondering if it is available for this unit and if it improves the speed for transcoding
  5. can you save the settings (backup.dss) and use that in 6.1 or does that also not work?
  6. How did you solve the NIC issue? Is it possible to migrate the disks when you do a bare metal install? Migrating is a lot faster than having to copy and recopy 9TB....
  7. for whom wants to know. just used a st pci-e card with 4 sata extensions on the asrock. works like a charm. currently with 6 hdd's and room for 2 additional extra drives if needed! Syba PCI-Express Controller-kaart, SATA III, 4-poorts, PCIe x 1: https://www.amazon.de/Syba-PCI-Express-Controller-Karte-SATA-III-4-Ports-Low-Profile-Slotblech/dp/B00AZ9T3OU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1497809120&sr=8-1&keywords=pcie+2.0+sata
  8. Hi All, currently on 5.2 with DS3615xs. thinking on moving to 6.1 Question, as I will be starting fresh, which is the best to work with (best is I mean for Plex, as it is mainly used there): DS3615xs DS3617xs DS916 Does it make any difference?
  9. Anybody tried working with 5 HDD on the Q1900DC? I have added a converter for the 1/2 size mini PCIe to Sata. Unfortunately the HDD does not show up in the Storage manager. Any ideas how to get it to work?
  10. Agree! Would be great. Also don't have the capability to do a backup..... I know.....
  11. Hi all, Still on 5.2, haven't made the leap yet to 6.0/6.1. Have a question befor I do. how do I enable to option for the 5 drive, SSD option. I have tried both a 1/2 size SSD in the mini PCIe slot, and a PCIe to sata converter with a HDD. after reboot, there is no extra drive visible in the HDD/SSD overview... Any indications? do I need to enable any setting/option in the BIOS, or should it be recognized immediately thanks for the help! Patrick
  12. I recently had a HDD that broke down in my raid 5 on a asrock 1900itx-dc. IK just replaced the drive and since then I can no longer start any packages. When I start a package it will remain in starting for a number of hours (not possible to start or stop anything else during that time) and after that the package is still stopped. Obviously the application wont work (sabnzdb, couchpotato, etc) the packages that where already running still work. Any ideas where to start troubleshooting? thanks!
  13. the chromecast is connected with utp. the google powerbrick which you can connect to your wired network
  14. Well the strange thing is I am also experiencing this on non transcoding streams, and the use of my CPU is at 25%, with an occasional spike to 50%, so more than enough power available....
  15. Anybody using plex with our xpenology setup? more specifically I have a Asrock itx Q1900dc. I am experiencing stuttering with casting to Chromecast, and wondering if anybody else is experiencing the same. It only happens with very large files that need to be transcoded or with series, where the subs need to be burned in. I also checked the logging: Aug 19, 2015 16:45:38 [0x10d84d000] VERBOSE - * speed => where the speed rarely gets above 1.5 or 2 without transcoding. With transcoding it drops below 1.0 and starts to stutter Anybody else seeing the same, or has a way to improve the speed with plex to avoid stuttering? with the chip set I would expect it to do better.
  16. In the mean time I solved this with aq micro 12v step down converter and dialed the speed down sop I no longer heard it. I think somewhere around 6v. works great and temp of the drives is now below 30 iso above 50!
  17. can you share where you found it, as I would like to enable that feature as well. thanks
  18. Unfortunately I have already had to RMA 3 red 3tb drives in the last 1.5 years of the 4 in my system. luckily they were in a raid 5 setup, so didn't lose anything..... So will echo the unreliability of the 3tb red rives (NAS version) I currently have a q1900. if I want to upgrade to n3150/n3700, is it just plug and play? i.e. setup the system, connect the HDD< strat syno assistant have it recognize the old raid drives and continue there, i.e. not lose any data?
  19. Was anybody able to solve this yet? would really like to know how to control the fans on my Q1900
  20. eeeuuuh. yes. 19volt, 4.5 amp. just any normal dell or HP charger will suffice
  21. I hav. 4gb op board. Running smooth incl full transcoding for plex. Power with 4 hdd is 90 watt laptop charcher
