You don't need any driver extensions for dsm 6.2.1 to enable hw transcoding on gemini lake
-
Does /dev/dri/ contain any files?
You use correct dsm version and bootloader. So hw transcoding should work without any doubts.
-
what driver you're looking for?

c

HW transcoding doesnt work with that driver. There are many topics about hw transcoding on gemini lakes. Just keep searching. Have a same MB and 6.2.1 dsm and everything works and so yours should as well

sigh in as root
rm "/volume1/@appstore/Plex Media Server/lib/dri/iHD_drv_video.so"
Restart Plex

@Olegin I have the same ASRock J4105-ITX that you have and can't get hw transcode to work with the latest dsm. As it seems that you're also not running hw transcode on your system, I wonder if it's even possible right now. Could someone halp me on that?
There are many people with the same problem. Just downgrade to 6.2.1-23824.

The question is quite off-topic.... A J5005 works fine with 1.04b.
-
Take a J5005 which is the most powerful. They are all basically the same but J4205 and J3355 have older generation of CPU.
-
Create a new boot drive and format drives. Make sure you mount 15mb partition edit correct values in grub.cfg. I would suggest to install DSM 6.2.1-23824 if HW transcoding is needed.
-
What DSM version did you install? DSM 6.2.1-23824 Update 6 works fine with same MB and unmodified loader.
-
Thats unfortunate. Have you had any issues with 6.2-23739?

Can you describe how to flash a Mac address? I have a J4105itx..
-
Hi,
Can you guys be more specific about Mac flash? I really have no idea what to do. Correct me if I am wrong but to have hw and sw transcoding active I need real Synology SN and MAC and to be able to WOL I need MBs MAC?
-
Currently I use a real Synology SN and MAC as well in order to have hw and sw transcoding activated.
Another question is how I am supposed to enable WOL? Can I change Mac to MB's one without losing a transcoding ability?
-
Hi,
I found these files in cd /dev/dri card0 and renderD128 . Using cat /usr/syno/etc/codec/activation.conf command i got this:
{"success":true,"activated_codec":["aac_dec","aac_enc","ac3_dec","hevc_dec","h26 4_dec","h264_enc","mpeg4part2_dec","vc1_dec","vc1_enc"],"token":"e12d2eb91847807 19a966f8d9f93e0dc"}.
I have a 20mbps bitrate h264 movie transcoded (to low quality) offline via video station and the estimated time to finish as about 50 minuttes (The hateful eight). Also watch a same bitrate movie online via plex at the same time. No buffering at all.
My CPU usage goes upto 90 % for a couple of seconds then down to 10 - 30 % for like 10 - 20 seconds and keeps repeating.
Can anyone tell me how can i recognize if its sw or hw transcoding? I have asrock j4105 and 6.2.1
Thank for any help

Well. I run xpenology tool as admin and open ofsmount, mount a synoboot.img, open notepad++, edit grub.cfg and save changes, exit notepad++, press dismount. Then open rufus and flash "modified" a synoboot.img.
-
Thanks for your advice. I am sure I saved changes to the grub.cfg (synoboot is placed in C/918/). I was able to change SN and MAC in gnu grub menu. My MB is asrock j4105 with one NIC and i am trying to enable hw transcoding. In this case should i use MBs mac address or synology's addresses (918+ have 2 macs)?
Thanks for any reply

Hi,
I have a problem with SN and mac address. I successfully created bootable USB stick with rufus osfmount (i changed VID, PID, SN, MAC using Notepad++), installed DSM etc. But the system shows default synoboot.img (1.04b) SN and MAC like no changes were made and saved. I use a real synology SN and my own MAC address.
Can anyone help me to solve this problem? I am total noob.

You gotta modify synoboot.img to run dsm 6.2.2. successfully. Just remember that hw acceleration doesn't work on 6.2.2. with gemini lakes.
