What is the meaning of DT on the models list? I researched and find DEVICE TREE? Which one is better for BareMetal and which is better for virtual environment? Thanks in advance.

Device Tree it's the way each model identifies the drives. It has nothing to do with BareMetal or a VM (my opinion).

    It works with 7.2

    Edit :

You may try this without any warranty, I hexedited the 7.2 i915 module  : i915_9BC8.ko 2.05 MB · 0 downloads

@Orphée Thanks, I created a task and then I received a message that I cannot have more than one or two tasks which is very limited.

I have placed an order for a GTX 1650 GDDR5, to test DVA3221 which has a lot more tasks...

@gadreel The first prerequisite is to passthrough your iGPU. as long as you don't have a working passthrough (/dev/dri available and i915 module loaded) you won't succeed.

There are hardware and bios configuration mandatory for this.

So depending on your hardware, PCI-e passtrough may not be possible at all on your hardware.

As I told you 9BC8 is not part of genuine i915 driver available in DVA1622 loader.

Unless 10th i915 addon handle 9BC8, your only option will be to rebuild the i915 module yourself like I usually did for my need.

    i915_pciids.h 15.17 kB · 1 download

    image.thumb.png.2e1d88432c8c62f12871a52a54bcfbc6.png

9BC8 is considered as Gen9... so 10th gen addon my not ship 9BC8...

    image.thumb.png.33b613476fde2fba298d7bfd6e524d63.png

When I rebuilt module myself, as it is actually just a PCI ID issue, I just added the missing line

for you it would be :

But I did it some month ago, I don't have building environnment anymore.

And don't ask me any help on how to do it yourself, it is to old for me to remind perfectly.

    @Orphée

It worked, I installed on Proxmox 7.4 instead of 8, followed your guide to blacklist the i915 and I installed arc loader and DSM 7.1.

I used 3e91 as the device id and it works.

I feel that the reason it was not working before it was due to DSM 7.2...

  4. 5 minutes ago, Orphée said:

@gadreel as baremetal, you probably won't be able to fake PCI ID... and I'm not sure 10th gen addon handle 8086:9BC8.

I did rebuild i915.ko to enable my ID in it but never made it work for Surveillance Station.

    It only worked for Plex/Emby.

Then with proxmox faking ID made everything work.

    @Orphée

I tried through Proxmox, I went though your steps and everything but no luck.

Today I tried with DSM 7.1 and I got it to output the display. Does the DSM version matters?

Same question goes for ARPL and ARC will it make any difference if I use ARPL instead of ARC loader?

  5. 7 minutes ago, Orphée said:

    Wrong.

Without any addon, it handle 4th to 9th gen iGPU.

You must add 10th gen addon to enable 10th gen.

But it will not work with Surveillance Station.

It will only work for 3rd party softwares like plex/emby.

    Re-read there :

@Orphée But now in baremetal what I did? I removed all the addons and the i915 module and I see the HDMI output.

This is the same as in Plex and Emby, the iGPU will work upto that extend only (Plex/Emby/HDMI Output)?

  6. Hi all,

From what I read in this topic from the 4th Gen to the 10th Gen, iGPU should work with DVA1622.

I have an i5 10600 with UHD 630 8086:9BC8 but it does not work when I passthrough the iGPU with Proxmox.

    EDIT1:

I tried baremetal and I am getting video output through the HDMI but I still when trying to test face detection I am getting "unable to perform this operation..."

  7. Hello,

I have a 1Gbit port and 10Gbit port, is it possible configure the ARPL i18n loader to which port will be eth0 and which eth1? Because every time I reboot the VM it changes around and is breaking my HA cluster.

    Good morning,

I started using synology 3-4 months ago.

After reviewing the logs, I noticed my NAS is under permanent brute force attacks.

Initially, I started blocking IPs manually (by adding one by one in the firewall with a 'deny' rule), but then I noticed that IPs kept changing as I blocked them. It does not look like a good use of my time.

The synology servicedesk is not very helpful:

    - blocking countries is not working: still getting brute force from one of the three countries I allow,

    - multi factor authentication: does not work on FTP. FTP transfers are much faster than the web interface.

    - Brute force is only conducted on SSH. The service desk advised to disable SSH, but even when I disable SSH the box is still processing SSH login requests! (Bruteforce via SSH continues with SSH disabled.)

The next step is to block SSH on the firewall of the NAS.

    Any other idea?

A more advanced approach is to use Cloudflare zero trust and apply security measures...

Awesome work you've done with this tool.

I have a questions that I would like to know if anybody can help me solve.

When I check the SATA ports and drives, I can see that my SATA expansion card (12 ports) doesn't map the ports together.  So, the drives get recognized as not being in a contiguous set of ports.

    drives.PNG.464b6efa7d1aaff224924e3540695984.PNG drives2.PNG.52e08c7b5522890b2a729307e995549a.PNG

Is there any way to remove the empty (not used) port numbers and have all my drives show contiguously?

Their are ways to fix it but it's "complicate" and it's more of a trial and error.

Most of the time we suggest to users to let it go. Technically there is NO issue when the drives look like this.

If you have a major OCD :) you could install a model that supports Directory Tree instead which maps the drives different and you do not have this issue.

  10. Hi all, please remind me what is the correct procedure on arpl-i18n to update from 7.1.1 to 7.2?

Update from DSM and then rebuild the loader or update from DSM and the loader will do the rest on it's own?

Edit: Updated DSM and then rebuild the loader. All good at the end.

There's one issue with ARC that's crossed the dangerous threshold.

There is an ADDON that unlocks up to the maximum license number of Surveilance on all platforms.
I think it's a sensitive part related to Synology's copyright.

AME CRACK is also in the context of that part.

I don't think this part would work if it officially existed as ADDON of ARPL and TCRP.

The administrator's action to prevent DSM file sharing is also because he does not want this issue to become an issue with Synology.

There is also information that the developer of ARC is broadcasting live on YouTube.

I'm worried that ARC will have a negative impact on our forum.

I totally agree, provoking and poking Synology will take down the forum.

Well I didn't really state any APPs that "require" Btrfs.  The only APP I've seen to be recommend against Btrfs, is Surveillance Station. Of course Volume Encryption, is a Yes/No answer, does someone want or need it.  So just because I have not seemingly experienced any data/integrity loss, doesn't mean I should necessarily stick with EXT4.  Btrfs certainly has additional data integrity protections that EXT4 doesn't have, so could be very worthy.  Certainly DSM7 if I am not mistaken, would try to default you to Btrfs, so this is where my curiosity of usage preferences of people here.  I know most of the pros & cons of both, but I am still curious what people in general might be opting for, and additionally why...just going with the default, intentionally chose one over the other. 🤣

What I meant to say is that if you want to take Snapshots you will need Btrfs. If you do not need those you can stick with Ext4.

I'd rather not have to use clients for the devices connecting to the DSM, if possible.

EDIT: Found a youtube video walkthrough for Cloudflare Tunnels, it looks like it might work, I'm just not able to see the login page.

EDIT2: Nevermind, I was missing the local IP of the DSM, I entered it and now have access to the portal, now I'm just going to create tunnels for SSH

If you want to use Cloudflare Tunnel and you do not want others to mess with the DSM login page create application policies to protect it.

i just replaced the cpu in my DS918+ baremetal setup to an Intel i7-8700. Its supposed to be 6 cores/12 hreads. However /proc/cpuninfo shows me 8 cpus(0-7).

When i ran the your tool to update info in DSM. DSM shows me 6 Cores (1 CPU/6 Cores | 8 Threads)

I bought the cpu fom ebay and it is a i7-8700.

So now im wondering if the the CPU is bad, not all its cores are working? or is it simply a Snology OS/DSM thing that its not showing me the right # of cpu/threads even in /proc/cpuinfo?

I did simply just swap out my cpu. Do i need to rebuild from tcrp lader again perhaps to get the new cpu detected properly?

EDIT: so reading up more on this. Seems like this is an old issue from Jun loaders days and there is some hard limit on # of cpus in Synology's linux kernel

Yes read this guide to see the limits for each platform. As you mentioned the DS918+ cannot have more than 8 cores...

Install DS3622xs+ if you want to have more cores.

    ds918, 7.1.1 42661 U1. Looking to update to 7.1.1 42962 U3.

I manually updated the DSM via GUI. Rebooted into tcrp 0.9.4. Ran full upgrade and post update command but it says version available is 42962 U2? Reluctantly i let it proceed with that. After my box seems to boot correctly. DSM info shows im at DSM 7.1.1-42962 Update 3

Should i be concerned that i ran tcrp and let its do it post update stuff for U2?

If bootloader was not updated, yes.
Sonoloygy does not always update it with minor patches that is why u still see U2

  16. Hello guys, I just replaced my old motherboard with a new ASRock Rack X570D4U-2L2T/BCM.

    This motherboard contains the 2 x 10Gbe [14e4:16d8] 24:00.1 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Inc. and subsidiaries BCM57416 NetXtreme-E Dual-Media 10G RDMA Ethernet Controller (rev 01)

    This motherboard also contains 2 x 1Gbe Intel I210

Previously I had a PCI card with 2 x 10gbe X550 Intel and it was working fine.

    To the question.

I have ARPL loader v0.4-alpha 6 which works fantastic on my (Virtual) DS918+ and I do not want to replace it with an updated version.

What is the correct procedure to detect this new BCM 10Gbe? I tried to only rebuild the loader and it does not work.

If I pass-through the I210 it works just fine when I rebuild the loader.

    Any suggestions?

  17. No, DSM is not that type of OS that you can install with an ISO. Installing the DSM on Baremetal or VM still you need to follow the same procedures to do.

Redpill is the loader is the code that makes all this magic work so that we can install DSM on a non-synology hardware.

TinyCore and ARPL to keep it simple they are software to make us (noob users) life easier without the need to understand how this magic works.

Write a few commands or press a few buttons and you are done...

I do non know if downloading the image of others will work. I suggest start reading the forum and you will find that it's easy.

The booting message that you see on your screen is totally normal that is what is supposed to say. In order to continue to see the log after the booting if you are on a VM you need a Serial Interface (again you need to read).

After seeing the "Booting" message you need to use Synology assistant. If everything works fine and your DSM picked up an IP you will see the DSM in the synology assistant and from there you can install the DSM (like a normal synology).

The whole thing about picking different models it depends on your needs and the hardware you have.

    See the guide below.
