  1. Please help with Power button.

    Dear @Arcao

I followed your instruction. Downloaded your file power-off.tar.gz and saved it at root.

Used putty, logged on as root and extract this file (see picture)

Unfortunately, after I hit Enter key, my Nas is gone, yes completely gone.

Doesn't matter how many times I tried to reboot (cold/ hot boot procedure looks fine/ normal on the screen), but I cannot ping or Assistant can see it.

My data may be gone without saying a word, yes may be.

Any solutions can bring it back? I'm so scared and exhausted.

    Thank you.

  2. @CtrlAltDel

I saw your instruction how to setup SataPortMap. It's useful.

I'm however just confused how we call which one is controller 1, 2, 3, blah..blah...

let say I have an Intel mobo that has 4 sata ports (Intel controller). I attached another sata card (ASM1061 SATA Constroller) that has 2 ports to build my 6 HDDs nas. So, in this case, which one should I setup for SataPortMap?

It should be SataPortMap=42 or SataPortMap=24?

An extra question. What if I set it wrong?

    Thanks.

  3. Another Gen8 running happily on DSM6 here. Thanks for making it happen.

Is there any likely hood that and adapted version of this method will be usable on a Gen7?

HI Have it working on a G7.

Did not update to update 2 though.

Did not do anything special other then using the bare metal mixed boot loader (viewtopic.php?f=2&t=20216&start=90#p73344) and copy of the fixed ramdisk.

Will try the upgrade to update 2 shortly an report back

wich ramdisk did you use to get it running on gen7 ?

I'm on the same boat to ask.

  4.

It's not so easy to do what you plan on doing for people who can't create a new volume or don't have spare disks with enough capacity though.

Personally I'm backing up all my data externally and once that finishes I'm going to bite the bullet and do a fresh install. It's such a significant update and I'm going to end up screwing the packages anyway, so my thinking is a clean install will be best in the long term. That way I remove any garbage that may carry over from previous DSM migrations...

I totally agreed with you. If you have new (or spare) mobo + ram + hdds + case to build a quite new Nas on DSM 6, it's another story. And as you said "It's not so easy to do what you plan on doing for people who can't create a new" Nas, right?

For example, in my case , my Nas that has a AMD mobo + a SAS SLI 9211 and currently running DSM 5.2 well will have to wait (maybe forever) until somebody patches its drivers to be upgraded to DSM 6.

My humble opinion is why can't I take an advantage of using stuff from previous package (all settings, QC, especially drivers)?

  5.

So your system still stays back with Ext4, right? Any (option) chance to switch to Brtfs after the upgrade, if you want? Thanks.

I don't think there is any way to migrate to btrfs from ext4 without data loss. The only thing you can do is backup your data and then recreate the drives with btrfs and copy your data back.

Correct, no way to migrate within Synology DSM from ext4 to btrfs ... not nice as other Linux based systems allow the migration ...

    Thanks for your thoughts.

But my idea is I have a Nas DSM 5.2 with 2TB x 8 HDDs. Data currently occupied 4 HDDs. When I finish migrating to DSM 6, I'll use the other 4 HDDs to create a new volume in Brtfs and move data from the old volume in Ext4 to the new volume. When the migration is done, I'll destroy the old volume and expand the new Brtfs volume to all 8 HDDs.

I think there is A WAY to migrate to Btrfs from Ext4, right?

What's your thoughts? Is it possilbe?

  6. So I finally had the time to check. I have had xpenology for some years now and it's really great. I Run a HP N54l with an AMD Turion II processor and I was wondering if somebody made some progress with running DSM 6 on this machine bare metal? or is the only way currently Esxi?

If you read this thread (from page 10 to now), you wouldn't ask.

New loader is good for both bare metal and VM, but right now not for your AMD system. Period.

  7. ...

I experimented migration from Xpenoboot 5.2 to the new loader without issues, system detected a migration, keeping the SHR2 etc. upgrade then to 6.2 with normal procedure from Synology repository.

So your system still stays back with Ext4, right? Any (option) chance to switch to Brtfs after the upgrade, if you want? Thanks.

  8. The problem is not the NIC as broadcom and realtek are present. I think it's because Gen7 have AMD cpu but vanilla kernel is build only for Intel :/

To make it to work, I (or someone else) need to rebuild full kernel & modules but... i will be busy for next days

Another vote for vanilla kernel is built for AMD too. Not just for Gen7 but a lot of other people who are currently using AMD mobos.

    Thanks in advance.

  9. After installed DSM 6.0 with new loader, I cannot create a new volume. It said I have to create new RAID Group first. What?

I remember with old versions that have Disk Group, I could create as many as volumes I want without involving Disk Group. And now with a new item (RAID group), I'm stuck.

    Please help. Thanks.

  10. How about my question why I got 2 drives only please? Thanks.

Successfully installed on my bare metal ASRock QC5000-ITX/PH AMD FT3 Kabini A4-5000 (4 SATA ports) with the last update of DSM 6.0.2.

However, doesn't matter how hard I tried, DMS only recognizes 2 SATA ports (intstead of 4).

From the specs of mobo, it says:

    2 x SATA3 6.0 Gb/s Connectors by AMD FT3 Kabini A4-5000 Quad-Core APU, support NCQ, AHCI and Hot Plug

2 x SATA3 6.0 Gb/s Connectors by ASMedia ASM1061, support NCQ, AHCI and Hot Plug.

What should I do in order to get all 4 SATA? I set SataPortMap=4 though. I don't mind testing anything if possible.

Once again, thank you those who have been working VERY hard to create DSM 6 new loader.

Do all 4 drives show up in the bios? What 2 drives are not shown in Storage Manager? Storage Manager will give you the serial numbers of the attached drives. Are the 2 missing drives connected to the ASMedia ASM1061 chipset?

Yes, all 4 drives showed up in BIOS when I checked.

    Ports SATA3_A0 and SATA3_A1: none

Ports SATA3_1 and SATA3_2: showed up in Storage Manager with SNs of drives attached.

"Are the 2 missing drives connected to the ASMedia ASM1061 chipset?" - That's my question too.

    Please help...

    Thanks.

  13.

Thanks aleksey_z. That is good to know. I did all the changes required to the grub.cfg file.

When you get to the synology assistant stage to update DSM were you told that your drives came from another machine and that you needed to install or did you have another screen?

Yes, the installation has a message "that the drives have come from another system" and the need to update the DSM. There is a choice: to migration or clean install. I chose to migration and it worked.

And in this case, you still keep your ext4, right? What if I want to move to brtfs after the upgrade?

    Thanks.

  14. I have tested the synoboot.img on a Intel s1200btl Motherboard (Bare metal), and everything worked perfectly out of the box.

ISCSI working, Both FILE and Block level. (I could not get this to work on ESXI)

Jumbo Frames, also worked fine. (Also not working on ESXI)

So all in all a very good and stable experience.

But, the one thing I could not get to work is the LSI-9211 in IT mode, this would be great to have support for both in Bare Metal and VM's, I also see other asking for this

Thank you very much for this great build.

I'm on the same boat with another vote. That would be great if it works on LSI-9211 in IT mode.

  15. "Everything worked well for several days" is just anecdotal (just as saying it's unstable, based solely on that, btw). My DSM 6.0.1-7393 has been running for over 2 months now, and never had any issue with it...

    What??? Really???

Five weeks ago, at page 35, you said you were dying to get a stable version.

Well, is it?! Am dying to get a stable version of this on ESXi 6, with Btrfs. Wish someone would give me a straight ansswer on this.

and at page 42, 3 weeks ago, you said you finally got it installed

Finally got around to installing DSM 6.0.1-7393 on ESXi 6.0 (via the posted DSM6_esxi_hw10.ova here). Works like a charm. It won't let me upgrade to 6.0.2-8451, though. Is there a way around that?

    Thanks.

So, where did you pull your "DSM 6.0.1-7393 has been running for over 2 months now" out huh?

    Liar!!!

  16. Downgrade to 5.2.

    Why?

If the installing DSM6 and create a partition occurs normally, and everything worked well for several days.

Easy, because DSM6 currently NOT stable. "everything worked well for several days" doesn't mean it's completely stable.

  17. Good evening. Sorry for my English.

I updated to DSM6.0.1 two my bare metal servers (in my signature).

On Intel D2700MUD - DSM6.0.1 installed and is operating normally with 01.09.16 year. Launched seven packages, including MariyaDB. Everything works fine, not works only Push-notifications (worked on DSM5.2).

On Asus P8z68vlx and Intel Core i3 with integreted lan card Realtek 8111E - DSM6.0.1 also installed normal (set several packages, as well as MariyaDB and web-station for one site). Three days worked fine, but now lost access to the web-interface server, and lost access via WinSCP and SSH Putty. But in this case, the server is seen in Synology Assistant (but may not be connected). What could this be and how to fix it?

    Thankyou.

    Downgrade to 5.2.
