  1. A friend of mine is trying to build an xpenology with an Asrock J3455-itx mobo.

So far, he has installed 6.2.1 version with Jun's 1.04b bootloader, but he's noticed strange behaviour as it failed to shut down, it took a long time to boot and transcoding didn't work with emby or video station.

    He's interested in video transcoding.

So what dsm version would you recommend?

    Thanks.

Hmm no real good ideas, but let me try digging around a bit and see if i can find something

Thanks. I've realized that the metadata search option does not work. Actually it doesn't find any results. At least it indexes files as it should, but no info in tv shows episodes. No possibility to enable TMDB search.

    If I remember correctly, you're using Jun's loader 1.02b, and if you have dev/dri I suppose it's a DS916+.
I understand you would like to make hardware acceleration transcode work in Video Station but I think the main problem is your cpu. It's a Bay Trail J1900, with integrated GPU "Intel® HD for Atom serie Z3700" and its specs might be too far away from the specs of the real DS916+, equipped with a N3710 Braswell CPU (HD Graphics 405 igpu).
So, from my point of view, it's not surprising VideoStation can't work with your cpu's IGPU because it certainly lacks lots of hardware transcode instructions and features needed by this synology package. Plex/Emby/Jellyfin can hardware transcode because those softwares are not hardware dependant and more versatiles, so your only solution is to use one of them or change your hardware for a more recent one.

If you want to stick with the Q1900, I would suggest Jellyfin which is totally free, Plex and Emby will ask for a monthly/annual/lifetime fee to use hardware transcoding feature, but keep in mind your igpu is too weak to get good hardware transcoding results,  don't expect too much and recent codecs like HEVC will surely fail to play.

Hi, thanks for your answer. My Q1900-itx is running Dsm 6.2.1. on DS918+ with Jun's loader 1.0.4b. I used a 916+ serial. Would it be a problem to a DS916+ serial?

I'd rather transcode with Video Station because Plex does not allow the system to hibernate (same problem with emby I think).

I've read about Jellyfin, bug I have not tried.

Would you recommend me to downgrade to dsm 6.1.7 with a Ds3515, Ds3516 or Ds3517? Would that downgrade allow me to transcode with my Q1900-itx?

    Thank you very much.

  4. THanks, Nool. I tried an older release and now it makes sense when indexing files. I can also save the changes in the options. I set it to transcode, but Video Station transcoding does not work. Any ideas? Ple's transcoding works fine, but Video Station transcoding doesn't even start. I don't see any changes in cpu usage. I have checked it and I do have the dev/dri folder.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

    Downgrade your Video Station installation.

I am having issues with the most recent one as well. It refused to pick up all my files.

As an example, I could have a folder ShowName1, Subfolder Season 01, 6 Files in the folder, all named with the same naming scheme - but only one or two of the files would get picked up no matter what i did.

Tried reinstalling video station several times and reindexing, same result.

    Tried downgrading it to https://archive.synology.com/download/Package/spk/VideoStation/2.4.7-1603/

and it worked as it should again, so try the same perhaps?

NB: The old versions media data search does not seem to work, as i think they moved to  a new system.

So hopefully a new version will be out soon.

The Video Station version I am having problems with is 2.4.9-1626. I guess it's the most recent one.

I also experience annoying and non-sense behaviour in Video Station. Every show is renamed in the same structure. Some episodes appear and other don't. I've tried it many times and tried several structures. Most of my movies are ok. I finally managed to get it ok with one of my favourite tv show (10+ seasons), but in other shows it is driving insane.

Would you recommend a version in particular? One which you have no issues with. My build is Asrock Q1900-itx with a 2TB WD Red Hdd. It's a 64 bit cpu. DSM version 6.2.1-23824.

What do you mean by metadata search not working? No covers or extra info on the shows and movies?

    Thanks.

  6. Hi. I am trying to use Video Station and it seems to be crazy. I add contents to the library. It's mostly ok with movies though some do not appear or come and go, but it is a chaos with tv shows. I add the by following the naming pattern SxxExx and at the beginning I see the different seasons, but then they start to disappear until only the first or second ones are left. Each of the season represents a different folder with the episodes in it.

Ironically, I had some cartoons episodes piled up in a single folder reprenting seasons as 1x01, 1x02..... 2x01,..... 3x01 and the y are correctly displayed.

I don't know if it is my install which is buggy. I have installed, uninstalled and installed back a couple of times. I don't know if it is related to my other problem with Video Station, which doesn't save the changes I make, so I can't activate transcoding or TMDB search. I opened a thread a few days ago

My build is Asrock Q1900-itx with DSM 6.2.1. Everything seems to be working fine except for Video Station.

    Any ideas?

  7. HI. I am giving Video Station a try. It does work. It indexes videos and the work ok. But I access the setting to change some parameters (activate transcoding and include TMDB API) and I can not save the setting. I press OK and I have no response. When I change to another tap (library, privileges, DTv, etc) I see a pop up warning me that if I abandon that page (tab) the changes won't be saved. Then, the changes are not saved.

    What am I missing?

My build is an Asrock Q1900-itx with a 2Tb REd WD Hdd. Everything else seems to work fine.

    Can anyone help me, please?

    Thanks.

  8. I don't know if it is possible to wake the Xpenology by using DS Get from a phone or from a TV via DLNA? Is it? If not, I would like to be able to at least hibernate the system. I set the hdd to hibernate after 10 minutes, but they don't hibernate, and the logs confirm that there is no hibernation in the hdd.

So, how could I hibernate the whole system or at least the hdd?

Might there be any processes keeping it awake. THe only packages I have installed are Download Station and DLNA server.

    Help, please.

    THanks.

  9. Hi, I'm a newbie. Could anyone tell me how to install mindlna on DSM 5.0? I know there the possibility of installing synology Photo Station, Video Station and Media Server, but I tink I read that they create a lot of files and thumbnails.

    Anyone could help me, please?

  10. Hello, I am running xpenology nanoboot on an intel atom n270 netbook. It is 32bits. I am running dsm 5.0 4493. It has detected an update to 5622. Should I update it? Does it support 32bit cpu. Will my system crash? I can't have hibernation and sheduled wake up. Should I update it? Could it make hibernation or WOL work?

    Thank you very much!
