1200mics Posted July 12, 2023 Share #1 Posted July 12, 2023 (edited) Hello, I have been playing around with Xpenology a little and are now searching for appropriate Hardware for my final system. Modern Mini PCs are interesting because they are cheap, efficient and relatively powerful. Could it work to use a NVMe to SATA Adapter (see picture) to connect the NAS HDDs to such a PC? Is it worth a try or is it doomed to fail (maybe because DSM wouldn't recognize the HDDs?) Edited July 12, 2023 by 1200mics

Is it worth a try or is it doomed to fail (maybe because DSM wouldn't recognize the HDDs?) perhaps this adapter will work (you need to check). But the question is different: how do you install your 6 SATA HDD's in a Mini PC case? And if you plan to install them in a separate case with its power supply, then why do you need a Mini PC? Put a regular motherboard in the same case... Edited July 12, 2023 by dj_nsk
1200mics Posted July 13, 2023 Author Share #3 Posted July 13, 2023 I already store the HDDs in separate cases and would stick to that. But what I actually forgot is the power supply issue! Of course, the mini PC wouldn't come with a power supply for the HDDs… Why the Mini PC in the first place? It seems to be the only way to get a power efficient yet relatively powerful CPU. Am I wrong?

Use motherboards with integrated CPU. For example: https://www.asrock.com/mb/index.us.asp#Intel CPU
1200mics Posted July 14, 2023 Author Share #5 Posted July 14, 2023 Cool, this Asrock Motherboard is very interesting. Exactly what I've been looking for! Thanks for the tip! It seems that it has been released quite recently, lucky me. During my research I only found Motherboards with Celeron CPUs... I already ordered the board
