J3455 xpenology slow boot - solution

Recommended Posts

Thanks for answering mate, much appreciated. but, very complicated for my little knowledge, is there a video tutorial?

I don’t think was necessary videotutorial like a Youtuber for any issue that you need.

I can see that only is running two o or three commands and understand that you do.

You won’t never learn nothing if you don’t try for yourself.

After trying for a whole day I understood how to do it. It is very simple, just follow the second part of this guide from point 1 to point 4, and insert the value for your motherboard

This is the guide [Tool Guide] AMI Setup - IFR Extractor AMISetupWriter - BIOS/UEFI Modding / BIOS Modding Guides and Problems - Win-Raid Forum (level1techs.com)

https://winraid.level1techs.com/t/tool-guide-ami-setup-ifr-extractor-amisetupwriter/32801

Resume:

1.- Download and extract AMISetup_IFR_v0_1.rar  https://mega.nz/folder/NC5CXLQS#YNCi_9IDn18y7axbdNyRMQ

2.- Create bios backup run in the same folder that you extract

fpt -d backup.bin -bios

3.- And run in this folder the next command

AMISetup_IFR.bat backup.bin

4.- Take the values with this file "_Setup\setup_extr.txt" of VarOffset and Value. In this case, VarOffset 0x48A / Value 0x3 option is missing with linux.

0x19C71 		One Of: OS Selection, VarStoreInfo (VarOffset/VarName): 0x48A, VarStore: 0x1, QuestionId: 0x273E, Size: 1, Min: 0x0, Max 0x4, Step: 0x0 {05 91 E0 01 E1 01 3E 27 01 00 8A 04 14 10 00 04 00}
0x19C82 			One Of Option: Windows, Value (8 bit): 0x0 (default) {09 07 E2 01 30 00 00}
0x19C89 			One Of Option: Android, Value (8 bit): 0x1 {09 07 E3 01 00 00 01}
0x19C90 			One Of Option: Win7, Value (8 bit): 0x2 {09 07 E4 01 00 00 02}
0x19C97 			One Of Option: MSDOS, Value (8 bit): 0x4 {09 07 E5 01 00 00 04}
0x19C9E 		End One Of {29 02}

5.- Create EFI booteable pendrive in FAT32 format and download/extract "Boot_Shell_AMISetupWriter.rar" on this pendrive  https://mega.nz/folder/NC5CXLQS#YNCi_9IDn18y7axbdNyRMQ

6.- Reboot and boot with pendrive. Then run in this case.

amisetupwriter 0x48A 0x3

7.- Reboot and exit.

I have understand this, but I never try this method with my Intel NUC J3455 because I use VMWare on Windows 11.

Perdóname, pero no lo entiendo bien.

1 Descargar y extraer AMISetup_IFR_v0_1.rar…….. Ok

In english, the same form that you need pendrive bootloader with other system, you need linux, windows, macos, etc, before boot and run the commands.

This is the same, I understand you need boot with pendrive and run, then you can use DSM with faster boot than before.

XPEnology | ASRock J3455 utiliza DSM918+ para iniciar una solución lenta – DivineEngine | Sitio

First, you need download the files and make a pendrive with Windows, macOS, linux, etc. and then you can boot and run the commands.

I have asked an other friend that use this method with your J4205-ITX(1.80)ROM. I hope answer me and I can help you with the correct steps.

sorry if this is dumb question, does this scenario and the "amisetupwriter" update apply to just the AMI bios with an onboard CPU?

the fix works on my asrock j3455-itx (realtek RTL8111GR NIC).

i also have an asrock z390 phantom gaming-itx/ac (with 8700K) running on arpl-1.0-beta10a.  the onboard NIC is intel i219v.

this build sometimes take 2-4 minutes to recognize the NIC on board or sometime not at all.  usually works again after a few reboot.

i couldn't find the tool, that i can run, to display the "One Of: OS Selection, VarStoreInfo ..." option on the z390 board to see whether i can do the AMI tweak.

any help appreciated.

I suppose that you have version 1.70:

0x213C8 		One Of: OS Selection, VarStoreInfo (VarOffset/VarName): 0x516, VarStore: 0x1, QuestionId: 0x279E, Size: 1, Min: 0x0, Max 0x4, Step: 0x0 {05 91 F4 02 F5 02 9E 27 01 00 16 05 14 10 00 04 00}
0x213D9 			One Of Option: Windows, Value (8 bit): 0x0 (default) {09 07 F6 02 30 00 00}
0x213E0 			One Of Option: Android, Value (8 bit): 0x1 {09 07 F7 02 00 00 01}
0x213E7 			One Of Option: Win7, Value (8 bit): 0x2 {09 07 F8 02 00 00 02}
0x213EE 			One Of Option: Linux, Value (8 bit): 0x3 {09 07 2E 08 00 00 03}
0x213F5 			One Of Option: MSDOS, Value (8 bit): 0x4 {09 07 F9 02 00 00 04}
0x213FC 		End One Of {29 02}

So proper command will be:

amisetupwriter 0x516 0x3

amisetupwriter is an EFI Shell executable.

To get into the EFI Shell

  1. Format a USB Disk to FAT32
  2. Copy over the EFI folder and amisetupwriter.efi file to the USB
  3. Disconnect all your SATA / other disks, as it will make it easier to mount the USB. Ideally the USB should be the only disk on the system
  4. Reboot from USB
  5. It will boot into a weird text interface, with the prompt as "Shell>"
  6. Here type in the command "map -r"
  7. This will mount all the disks
  8. The USB should be fs0. Select it by typing in "fs0:"
  9. The prompt will change to "fs0:\>"
  10. Now if you run the "dir" command it should display the contents of the USB
  11. Finally you can run the "amisetupwriter"
