elmuziko Posted August 11, 2013 Share #1 Posted August 11, 2013 Afternoon all, I have me DSM 4.2 (DS3612xs_4.2-3211_x64_Microserver-20130612) thanks to the lovely people here and it's working fine on my HP ProLiant N54L. I bought my an ICY dock for the 5" bay and whilst it's picked up in the BIOS, the Synology doesn't spot it. I'm using a 2 sata port PCI card as an expansion. If i plug in a laptop hard drive to the PCI card it boots into windows no problem so the PCI is working and the ICY dock is obviously doing it's thing. Here's another twist in the tale. If I use the 5th sata port from the motherboard itself the Synology picks it up. My guess is somewhere the Syno doesn't want to recognise the PCI card. Any suggestions anyone? A setting in the BIOS or something else?
minoru Posted August 12, 2013 Share #2 Posted August 12, 2013 I successfully installed a 2 port SATA controller based on the Silicon Image SIL-3132 chip. I used that one, because some DiskStations also use this chip. DSM uses one port as internal SATA and the other one as eSATA.
fonix232 Posted August 25, 2013 Share #3 Posted August 25, 2013 The problem is definitely the PCI card. Synology by default does not include extra hardware drivers, and most of the XPEnology releases have only specific drivers, so check your card, check for its chipset, and make a request in the thread of your release. elmuziko Posted August 29, 2013 Author Share #4 Posted August 29, 2013 Thanks both, I'll post a link to the hardware I plan on buying. Do you know if there's any 4 SATA port cards supported with Syno? Save the hassle of requesting, Thanks
