GizmoPower Posted August 29, 2020 Share #1 Posted August 29, 2020 (edited) Hello. Ive been a member for many years and have success in running baremetal Cuurently running Baremetal Intel S5500HCV DSM 6.2.2-24922 Update 4 Now i am trying to setup an: hp proliant ml350 g5 server xeon quad-core e5420 2.50ghz Of what I understand this cant be run as Baremetall. So I found this tutorial: All make sence untill here: Quote save file, dismount all and exit. ??????? ESXi part: Upload synoboot.vmdk and synoboot.img to esxi (in one folder) It assumes the user has knowledge of ESXI i suppose... I know loader has a ESXI option on boot. I know that its about VMWare But, I dont understand how to use ESXI. (VMWare) Do I make a bootable usb, as in baremetall. and boot the server? Do I install ESXI on the server first or local on my PC? Where do I find the correct versions? Hope someone can clarify for me. Edited August 29, 2020 by GizmoPower
flyride Posted August 29, 2020 Share #2 Posted August 29, 2020 Think of the hypervisor (ESXi) as a "wrapper" around DSM. Install ESXi on server, then configure a virtual machine (VM) inside, on which to install DSM. You will need an ESXi boot device (generally a USB key, which is confusing because a baremetal XPEnology loader also uses a USB key). You will also need an ESXi scratch disk that is separate from the disk(s) you intend to use for DSM. Once you have installed ESXi and have a scratch volume configured, you can install the DSM VM. XPEnology loader does not need a USB key when running under VMWare, it can just use a disk image. That's why there is a menu option in the loader, so it knows which you are doing. It takes some trial and error to learn how to best configure DSM under a hypervisor; it offers you much more control over your hardware/software configuration. The problem now is when i want to start the innstalation of .pat I get: No hdd found 😕 I think the controller may not be supported. If am not wrong I think it is Smart Array E200 controller.... Im running on this one: hp proliant ml350 g5 server xeon quad-core e5420 2.50ghz Edited September 16, 2020 by GizmoPower
