  1. @quicknick, good call on trying Jun's loader again. I was able to use the USB LAN adapter trick to get an IP and the LSI drivers kicked in allowing me to see the HDDs. I updated DSM, however I ended up with a degraded volume so I'll work on getting that fixed. Once that's done I'll switch to you loader again and do some more testing. If you need some more info e.g bios setting etc, let me know. thanks

Edit: Only 6 of 8 drives show in Storage Manager so I'm assuming it's not recognizing two drives for some reason

    Hi trublu,

When you say USB LAN adapter, which make/model did you use?

I'm using Plugable Technologies USB3-E1000. It uses an AX88179 chipset.

  2. Ok so got anxious burned img to usb and edit VID/PID downloaded DSM 6 from syno, migrated, installed, reboot and viola everything seems to be working.

    WHERE CAN I DONATE!

Thanks man can't wait to upgrade my 5.x going to wait for your guide!

Can I buy you a coffee?

No, but you can buy me a glass of red wine or a bottle of it [emoji3]

Hey UNSC-117, i see you're using the 8 bay UNAS also. Did you have any issues with all eight drives showing up in DSM 6? Did you make any change to sataPortMap? Thanks

  4. I tried Jun's bootloader but the NICs didn't work so i assumed the NIC drivers weren't included. I just got the USB LAN adapter today so I'll try Jun's bootloader again and see if it works. I suspect something about this particular board is preventing some of the modules from loading.

    Thanks for the response.

Since you now have network capabilities log in via ssh (read FAQs) and cat /var/log/messages, copy and paste into here using the BBcode

Hey quicknick, log was too long so used pastebin: http://pastebin.com/raw/Yy2MSRSZ

    Thanks!

When posting in the forum please give this information

Hardware: CISCO UCS 220 or VM

Install Type: Baremetal or VM (If VM specify ESXi or Workstation or Virtualbox or KVM)

Issue: Network or Storage or something broken

Then describe your problem. Post pictures or if you know the issue, such as my network card was not recognized.

    [/size]

Here is an example of how to post:

    Hardware: CISCO UCS 220

    Install Type: Baremetal

    Issue: Network

My network card was not recognized

To which I will respond, is your HW in the Supported Drivers List? If it is, then do you have serial connection to show that it doesn't exist? Or if you don't have serial, how do you know your card wasn't recognized. Check your DHCP leases.

Hardware: UNAS NSC-800 with SAS Backplane

Motherboard: Supermicro a1sai-2750f with I354 LAN chpset

    LSI SAS 9211-8i

Install Type: Baremetal with DSM 5 currently installed

    Issue: Network/Disks not found

Network card isn't recognized (no DHCP leases). However, when I connect an AX88179 USB LAN adapter, the other NICs then show up in Synology Assistant. At this point i then get an option to install but no HDDs are detected.

    Thanks for any insight!

  6. Just tested with an I354 board (Supermicro A1SAi-2750F) but no luck. Looks like I354 isn't supported. I thought it would have been covered by the I350 drivers. Is it possible I'm doing something wrong? I got number of network interfaces by running: ls -A /sys/class/net | wc -l

Also, when I select the config tool option, it only brings me to the "booting the kernel" screen instead of launching the config tool. Any thoughts?

    same problem here

I suspect it's something to do with this board. I stuck a USB 3 RJ45 adapter and suddenly the NICs showed up. I'm now stuck at "no hard disk found"

I'll do some more troubleshooting and post my findings.

  7. Hey quicknick,

I am still getting error: terminal "serial" isn't found using the baremetal install. The NIC for motherboard Asus P6T SE which is Realtek® 8111C PCIe Gigabit LAN is not working. I checked the DHCP lease and don't see it there.

Are the drivers missing for the NIC?

Please re-download again. Just updated it should be working now. You can ignore terminal "serial" isn't found.

Hey Quicknick, is I354 supported? I can't find mobo NICs either. I also can't launch the config tool. Any ideas?

  9. Just wanted to share some information with the 3 people that will actually bother to search this thread lol.

I needed a couple more networking ports for my bare metal install and ordered this dual port card off of Amazon and it was detected right away using 1.01 loader.

So if anyone needs a dual port Intel NIC i350, this one works great right out of the box!

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00G0 ... UTF8&psc=1

Did you do anything else to get it working? I have an I354 motherboard with that doesn't work even though they typically use the same drivers.

  10. Since there are considerable difference between beta source and the release version, I write and compile kernel modules instead, even the AMD kernel is a combination of the original kernel and the AMD support code compiled as module (sort of). I compile beta src kernel only to aid debugging, itself does not work properly, lacking required symbol etc, and I do not bother to fix it.

can you provide a quick writeup on how you added LSI support as an example so that some of us can work on doing the same for other drivers?

most drivers has nothing special, and for special drivers, better to wait for proper kernel source. For LSI hba, I use existing driver, patch the kernel to make it has proper device name, from sas* to sd*

thanks for the info. Do you have any of your stuff on Github? Also, any chance you might add intel LAN support? Thanks.

  11. Special THX for the loader!

I tried it today as .vdi and .vdmk in VM (VMware & VBox) but got also Error 13.

What would be the right vid&pid for .vdmk? I read about vid=0x46f4 ; pid=0x0001

is this correct? Serial and MAC have to match with MAC from the configuration of the VM?

    Greetings

You have to retrieve and use the VID/PID of your usb drive

  12. @Jun Can you share the steps to recompile your patched kernel zImage? I can recompile the kernel with Hyper-V support, but it seems still not work, so I guess I missed the proper patch for DSM6.0.2?

  13. Was someone here sucessful with a Atom C2750 / C2550 MB?

I tried to setup a baremetal system on my Supermicro A1SAM and system "seems" to boot correctly.

Display shows "Kernel booting" and my router gives out dhcp leases to both of the pluged in ethernet ports.

I am not able to connect via IP Adress:5000

Neither does http://find.synology.com/ show any system, nor does the desktop app shows a system.

PID/VID is changed and the same usb drive boots my Asrock QC5000-ITX just fine.

    Suggestions?

the DHCP lease might be from before you tried DSM 6.0.

  14. I will be providing updated loader with configuration tool to assist everyone modifying configurations from within xpenology so no one will have to modfy in boot cds or other methods. I will start a new thread on that this weekend. Stay tuned!

  15. has anyone been able to get 2 or more Nic's working, I have a single card that is recognized and I have tried 2 quad cards 210i and older intel pro quad and while they are recognized I can't get an ip,

Been able to use 4 no issues.

Do you have the four nics bonded?

  16. I get to this screen but can't connect to or find dsm using synology assistant.

    Any pointers from anyone?

Looks like I found my issue.

My machines has C2000 SoC I354 Quad GbE NIC controllers & LSI SAS 9211-8i.

The first image (setsunakawa's) I tried supported my NIC but not the LSI HBA. Jun's image suppports the LSI HBA but not the NICs.

Can someone point me to a wiki or documentation that can help me with building in additional drivers?

A new loader with included drivers will be out in the coming days. Stay tuned.

  18. I'm still stuck on the "Booting the kernel ..." with no DSM access screen after leaving it over night.

I've checked my router/switch and the server doesn't have an assigned ip address.

The steps I took were to modify the VID and PID. I also added one of my mac actual addresses and updated the SN number (not a matched pair since I don't need QC).

Hardware: SUPERMICRO MBD-A1SAi-2750F-O and LSI SAS 9211-8i

Can anyone tell me if i got something wrong or missed something.

  19. i got the same response but I cant re test as its going on 1 week repairing 1tb which is currently @ 45%.. maybe by xmas or thanksgiving will I be able to test this out and try the find.synology.com but like i said before i got to the booting the kernel part i didnt attempt to find.syno.com I assumed it was *broken* but through the response of others I have hope it might work  if this fucking repair disk ever finishes...
How can you tell if it's repairing or doing anything at all?
