I do not use DS video my self, but I am going to assume the processor does not have enough power for tanscoding.
Plex is available on the newest apple TV, it should direct play lots of file types.

I would consider looking at a board with ipmi it's extremely useful.
If you do baremetal, you would likely end up with more cores than Xpenology can handle. That why I have to turn off hypertheading on the single 2630LV3.
-
SATA will be fine, the board i have with 10 SATA ports uses the same chipset.
If the network card does not work (not on supported list), you can buy an add in card to fix the issue.

I can look more later today to help, but if it's on this list it should be OK.

The core limit has been discussed some. It's some kind of limit, but software based.

So as the title says I am looking to replace my server. Can spend around £800 maybe more. Looking for 6+ sata and must be powerful enough to cope with 4-6 streams at once.
Pre-built or you build with parts?
Check eBay to see if the guy from Japan is still selling engineering samples of Xeon V3 processors. I bought a 2630LV3 about 4 months back for $199 US from this person. They are legit.

I use that with a SUPERMICRO MBD-X10SRI-F. Works good, 10 Sata ports all Intel.
Note: Xpenology can only use 8 cores. So on the 2630Lv3 I have hypertheading disabled so I only use the 8 real cores. My setup is baremetal, plex is really the only thing that takes processor power on my setup.

I hope this is the right place to ask this question.
Thanks to all the info on this forum I have successfully built my own NAS that works far far better than the DS211j I used to have. Q1900-ITX, 4gb RAM, 4TB SHR array, onboard everything else. Using noboot 5.2-5644.3 with Video Station updated to latest version.
The problem I have is that DS Video seems to play to my apple tv (V3) at about half the framerate and with significant pixellation. I've adjusted the transcoding quality on the DSVideo app with no apparent change in quality or effects. Not all files are affected by this (although the majority are) and it doesn't seem to matter if the video file is a 480p, 720p, or 1080p, the issue remains the same.
Am I running into limitations with the hardware, DSVideo software, of the XPEnology build? Or are there settings which I should play around with?
I know Plex is an option but I'd like to exhaust my options with DSVideo first.
Thank you
What does your CPU utilization look like during playback? That should help answer the question.

I used the how to guides at xpenology.me. They work for me.

Hello all i was wondering if someone could please help with a little advice
I am running a HP N54L with DSM 5.1-5022 Update 4 and would love to update to the latest xpenology version.
What do i need to do (Load first and so on)
-
I'm not sure what the problem is. I've even reinstalled my Xpenology 5.2 5644 still no luck. Any suggestions please
Was it working fine then it just messed up? Or did you experience this right after an upgrade?
-
Yes, still present in 5644.4.
Lat good loader with Time Backup would be 5592.2
-
Known issues with the current boot loader.
I reverted to the 5592.2 bootloader without changing DSM and it worked. I removed time backup after boot and went back to the most current image.
-
I do not use it this way, because I use all onboard SATA ports (10), but i do not see why it would be an issue. I think you have to modify the bootloader if you use more than 12 drives because it is based on a 3615xs which is a 12 bay unit.

Hi I'm the creator of SynoZwave.
Just to tell you that a new version is released!
Now it's called PulseStation. More info on http://pulse-station.com
Thats a nice looking package. I am new to this, would this USB stick work with your package?
Aeon Labs Aeotec Z-Wave Z-Stick, Gen5 Z-Wave Plus - ZW090
http://www.amazon.com/Aeon-Labs-Aeotec- ... z-wave+usb
i am in the US, so it would not be easy for me to buy the one listed on your store.

Rolling back to 5.2-5592 bootloader fixed it for me on bare metal. I then removed time backup and updated the bootstrap to the current version. This may work for some, others might need to reinstall DSM under 5592 with the PAT file.

Well, I do not use socket 1151, but for me I have had good luck with hardware that has an Intel NIC and Intel SATA controllers.
I previously used a Supermicro C2750 board, all worked well. I now use a Supermicro X10SRi-F which is socket 2011-V3. All works well on that board as well.
I think people mainly have issues with non Intel SATA controllers.
Not sure if this helps, just my 2 cents.

What does that OS do that DSM does not?
Parts of DSM are open source leaving some room for Xpenology, not sure about the Seagate NAS OS though.

Add the ram parts to my original post.
-
Supermicro MBD-X10SRI-F-O, 16gb Kingston ECC Ram (KVR21R15S4/8), Intel built-in network, 2630l V3. Hypertheading is off because Xpenology only sees 8 cores. 10 Intel Sata ports on-board.
Previous was Supermicro C2750, 8 gb Kingston ECC Ram (KVR16LSE11/4KF), built-in Intel ethernet.6 Intel Sata ports on-board.
wdred 3 tb drives.
Smallest amount of ram I could find on compatability chart in both cases. 4gb would be enough.

I think Xpenology is for x86/x64 only.

I have 8GB, doing all of the stuff you talked about except for Mailstation, DNS Server and Video Station. I use Plex though.
I have never seen it get about 15% utilization.
Hope this helps.
Time to replace my hp n54l

It's all in the passmark score for plex, 2000 per each 1080p transcode.
8181 passmark will do about 4 transcode streams at once.
