  1. I sorted out both problems by using new BIOS and modify it to enable access to hidden options. So now my QNAP TS415 using bios ver QW37AR36. Because I did many tests and reinstalled few times DSM I didn't check yet if fancontrol script will work. Currently DSM build in fan control app do not work but fortunately bios offer dynamic smart control depend of cpu temperature. Main issue is solved by bios upgrade - fixed shutdown. Now I am in position when I can start using DSM for my needs but I would like solve other small issues as well: - not working power on scheduler - no sound (buzzer) signals - will be nice to see temperature on UI instead of calling sensor command I am noob in linux stuff so I will be glad to get some detailed advices.
  2. Hi, I know that there are posts related to lm-sensors/fancontrol but I would like write it here as I think this is specific problem for QNAP hardware. I installed lm-sensors and lm-sensors-detect, that are results of those programs: sensors: coretemp-isa-0000 Adapter: ISA adapter Core 0: +35.0 C (high = +105.0 C, crit = +105.0 C) Core 1: +35.0 C (high = +105.0 C, crit = +105.0 C) sensors-detect (edited to skip not needed information): ... Found `Fintek F71869A Super IO Sensors' Success! (address 0x290, driver `f71882fg') ... Probing for `National Semiconductor LM78' at 0x290... Success! (confidence 6, driver `lm78') ... Now follows a summary of the probes I have just done. Just press ENTER to continue: Driver `coretemp': * Chip `Intel digital thermal sensor' (confidence: 9) Driver `f71882fg': * ISA bus, address 0x290 Chip `Fintek F71869A Super IO Sensors' (confidence: 9) Do you want to overwrite /etc/sysconfig/lm_sensors? (YES/no): y Copy prog/init/lm_sensors.service to /lib/systemd/system and run 'systemctl enable lm_sensors.service' for initialization at boot time. I have problem with suggestion at the end as I my system can't found lm_sensors.service. What I should do to make it working as my plan is using fancontrol script?
  3. Hi All Did you mamange/solve this problem? Last year I builded small PC nas based on Xpenology and now I am fan of this solution. I have old QNAP TS451 and I decided move it to Xpenology too. Everything went well and now I can use this OS based on DS920+ model with DSM 7.2.1-69057 Update 3. And as author of this post I have exactly the same issues. When I shutdown DSM via software then system automatically boot up. I tried different settings in BIOS without succees. I found on this forum that editig grub.cfg could help but I couldn't apply suggested solution as I didn't found that what I supose to change. After installing lm-sensor I can only see temperatures of CPU cores and nothig more. Command sensor-detect is not reconized. I have no idea what else I can do to have control on fan apart from installing different fan with manual hardware control. I noticed also that DSM do not support any sound notification (beep on internal speaker). This is not a problem but sometimes could be nice to have some audio warnings. As post was sent 2 years ago maybe somebody solved already those problems related to QNAP devices???
  4. I'm not sure if you understand what I mean. I would like to keep the SSD as a cache for the raid volume and use it as a boot drive. For now, I can do one of the two, burn the ARPL image to SSD and use it as a boot disk, or use a USB and use the SSD as a cache. I saw on a forum that someone moved a bootable partition from USB to one of the volume disks because there was enough unallocated space on the disk. On the other hand, SSD Cache disk has only one partition and there is no free space there. When setting up a cache, the synology system asks how much you want to allocate to the cache, but this has no effect on the size of the partition. As far as I understand the commands in linux, your proposal concerns the installation of ARPL on the ssd, which I have already done using Rufus on windows. It would be great to use SSD cache as boot, let me know if that's even possible please. By the way on ARPL's github page it says: "The loader will automatically increase the size of the last partition and use this space as cache if it is larger than 2GiB." What does "cache" mean in this case? What is this partition used for? As the system no longer sees such a disk, I don't think it will be used to speed up reading data from the raid volume. Could you or somebody explain it?
  5. Than you @Peter Suhfor response. re 1. I will have to downgrade to DS920+ DSM 7.0.1-42218 as I am on higher version right now and I assume your idea will not work on higher versions. re 3. as you said "Forget NVIDIA" then just using Intel Atom for HEVC/AAC will be not possible, so whole idea could be not possible to achieve but I will try anyway, just for curiosity re 12. you propose offline transcoding to it means I will need more space to keep original video and transcoded video? re @Orphée it is nice idea to use Jellyfin but is it also offline transcoding? It is funny to have nvidia processor near to intel processor on the same board and totally not use it where nvidia offers some extra power as coprocessor e.g. using CUDA.
  6. Hi, I have configured my machine with DS920+ and created Raid5 with additional small SSD as read cache. Is it possible to use this SSD as well as boot drive instead of USB flash drive? When I use SSD as boot device based on ARPL image then this disk is not visible in system. Is it possible to shrink cache partition, copy boot/system partition from USB and forget about USG flash (which is slow especially I have no usb3.0)?
  7. Looks it has: flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm xtpr pdcm movbe lahf_lm dtherm and also I can find it under https://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Atom/Intel-Atom 330 AU80587RE0251M.html Could you tell me what exactly image I should use to test it? I used ARPL v1.1-beta2 and I am not sure if that version checks movbe. Maybe I shouldn't use ARPL but TCRP directly? Please advice which exactly model and build should I test. I looked at logs from installation on usb (logs>jr>messages) and I think this gpu wont work, unless I can install somehow older version: nvidia: module license 'NVIDIA' taints kernel. 8. Hi, I installed XPEnology DS920+ on my old Atom 330 PC which has nvidia 9400m GPU built in. I was also able to install DSM DS3622xs+. I was looking to be able to HW transcode video through Plex or some other media server app, but I need nvidia drivers for that. So I tried to install suggested versions of DVA but no success. After the initial setup, the system does not find the Synology login page and just shuts down. So I tried to manually install the drivers but failed due to lack of glibc to compile the drivers. I then tried to extract the drivers from the image, but DSM 7.0 is different from the previous version and I can't extract any file from it (possibly due to encryption). Maybe I'll never get it to work and I should forget about using plex on this machine, but it worked on Windows (full hd videos only) so I thought it would be nice to have it. Is there any chance for that? Should I upgrade to DSM 6.X and try to extract the ko files and install them manually?
