  1. I think that makes sense. I guess i wasnt aware that i could ssh into the box in tinycore bootloader mode. I also have full access to my remote router/firewall via VPN so i can always login there to see what IP tinycore will get with the new MAC. I"m really tempted to try this now. As long as the box keeps booting up i should be ok. Only a kernel panic would be disastrous but i have never seen that occur on my bare metal system on the build or loaders ive played with.
  2. Thank you. I’m not sure I fully what you said above. I can even rebuild the loader via ssh by mounting the synoboot from the usb and running the usual loader build commands? that way I can convert the model and set the desired serial and Mac? at the next boot I would go through the dsm migration steps, correct? So all this should be possibly via ssh without direct physical access to the bare metal system? Thank you.
  3. Yeh it's barrmetal. But you think I can alteast change the Mac and serial remotely? Thanks for confirming.
  4. Thanks. I'll at least view the grub config to check. Any chance you think this could affect boot? I know that's a dumb question to ask. I'm essentially looking to convert my ds3622xs+ to a ds920+ to enable HEVC support and also HW transcoding in Plex. I have a feeling the model convert part can't be done remotely as that probably requires a loader rebuild?
  5. A question. While I'm running the regular TCRP and not ARPL. I think the question would apply to ARPL also. Any way of changing serial and MAC of my baremetal unit remotely i.e im not physically at the location where the unit is located but i do have GUI and SSH access to it. Its running the latest stable release of TCRP and DSM 7.1.x. Like, could i mount the /dev/synoboot (which looks to be the usb flash drive) via ssh and update a config or grub file etc? THank you.

  7. Hi all. so I have a 7.1 42661 dsm xpenology setup. I’ve done this syncocodec patch and it said it was successful. I only use the photos app so there was only a single thing for me to patch. however I still don’t get HEVC thumbnails in the photos app? Does anything else need to be installed like the advanced media extensions package? Because that won’t install due to the serial check! EDIT: ok so i read some place else that hevc thumbnails are created if the video was uploaded via the photos app. But not if the video was directly copied from another location into the photos folder. I tested and that does seem to be the case. So now i need to figure out how to have the photos app create thumbnails for the copied hevc files. Re-indexing didnt seem to do anything.
  8. I guess another way you could test is, if you have two usb3 external drives or usb3 flash drives. You can plug and mount one on each server within dsm and then do a file copy between the usb drives. This would bypass the raid drives but you would still be within dsm/xpenology and verify if transfer speeds are limited by the loader. Just a thought.
  9. Question. Im remote from my xpenology box. Does testing this patch tool on a 7.1-42661 Update 1 break the xpenology from booting up or is it simply that the patch tool doesnt install or work? I would like to try this but just wondering if itll break the loader on the box? THe link for the 7.1.x doesnt seem to be working. Lastly, if this doesnt help with HEVC or AAC that what does this codec patch activate? Thanks
  10. Its possible your issues are with the RAID card drivers. For what its worth, i have two generic baremetal xpenology units, regular intel i3, 4GB ram, both running TCRP and on DSM 7.1.x DSM. I sync them using rsync and i dont seem to have any issues with speed. They are on gigabit LAN and rsync easily mantains the 100-120MBMB/s betweent he two units. Im not too familiar with HW raid cards. But is it possible to not use the HW raid and just use synology's software raid for the drives?
  11. Try doing doing the copy using rsync?
  12. Just wondering if there's a way to enable support for intel quick sync for a xpenology baremetal setup based onDS3622xs+ with the new TRCP loader/DSM 7.1.x. ?
  13. Does baremetal based on ds3622xs+ not support intel quicksync for HW video transcoding(for plex)? EDIT: ignore. guess i found the answer on the DSM 7 loaders page, theres a table there that shows this model not support intel quicksync. A follow up question. Can quicksync support be enabled in the ds3622 model somehow?
  14. are you using hardware raid for your drives? If so did you try without raid mode?
  15. Is there any place where the "with friend" option is documented? Cant seem to get any help or answers here unfortunately. Thank you.
  16. Do i rebuild my current loader with the FRIEND option, for my current DSM version? and then upgrade dsm from gui? THanks
  17. i use transmission as my torrent client on the xpenology. Even on gigabit connection i never exceeded 30MB/s. I chalked that up to something related to torrent network in general. Cant say much otherwise. Like you i can test a direct download e.g a LINUX ISO from unbuntu using Download station and i can max out my internet speed.
  18. torrent speeds are dependant on seeders and their upload speeds etc. Those will be different and unpredictable depending what torrent you're downgliding. Cant see how TCRP cant have anything to do with this as long as you have confirmed you NIC in the xpenology is able to do gig speed in your LAN atleast.
  19. Is there any information avaiable on what this "friend" option is? Is it onetime build for a given supported DSM version and from there on dsm can updated from the gui given that its a supported dsm version? Also just curious is there any trick where TRCP can be rebuilt on a headless system i.e if i dont have a keyboard/display attached? Can tcrp somehow be done via ssh to the xpenology box? e.g by mounting the usb drive etc?
  20. Im currently running 7.1.0.42661 U1 on bare metal Using redpill, current stable release. Standard setup with no extra NIC card or HDD controllers. Can i upgrade to the latest DSM 7.1.1.42962 via the DSM GUI? Is there still a need to run any rploader commands for this upgrade?
  21. Could someone please tell me how to change the Mac of my xpenology. I built the system using tinycore generated serial and Mac, but now want to use real mac for WOL purpose. I tired changing the Mac in the user_config. But when I reboot it goes back to the previous Mac. Do I need to a do tc build again.or there's some rploader command etc? Thanks.
  22. So i have a working setup with tiny core. Just a general question. I had setup initially by using a auto generated mac. But i now want to use the real MAC of the nic for WOL purpose. Can i simply replace the mac i see in the boot/grub/grub.cfg file on the usb boot drive? Thanks
  23. Excellent. Thanks for the info. I might give the upgrade a go with a spare isb and a blank hdd etc to test it out.
  24. Hi all, Is there a latest sticky page for current status on this project? While i was up to date up till page 99 of this thread, i see thats grown well past that. So instead of having to read another 100 pages. I was just wondering if redpill is still unstable? Im currently running jun's loader on 3617xs, 6.2.x baremetal setup for over 3 years now and hoping that someday i can move up to 7.x and just wondering whats the latest on the redpill project. Is either one or both 7.0, 7.1.x versions unstable?
