ue23 Posted October 11, 2023 Share #1 Posted October 11, 2023 Hello guys, I have had a custom build based on ASRock J3160-ITX running for 7 years w/o any problems. My primary usage is home-use, some containers, syno photo, drive, pc backups,.. I dont need RAID, since I am backing up data additionaly on a cloud and also occasionally on a external usb device. Power consumption is important: I had Idle: 8-11Wh and Peak: 18-25Wh Must: Passive cooling Now I want to upgrade the hardware to the following, while maintaining the same or even lower power usage and be complete silent with passive cooling and SSDs: - ASUS Prime N100I-D D4-CSM 110€ - PNY CS1030 250GB M.2 NVMe Gen3 25€ - Samsung 870 EVO SATA 4TB SSD 175€ - Kingston 8GB RAM KVR32S22S6/8 22€ - PicoPSU 90W 35€ + 12V, 7,5A Power Supply 22€ - Chieftec IX-01B Mini ITX Case 32€ = TOTAL: 420€ I have seen one single person posting in the forum that he was able to upgrade to DSM 7.2 with N100 SOC, but other than that there are not much infos about the N100. Can somebody tell me if the N100 is supported without any issues and also your opinion on my build is welcomed? Others can feel free to share their N100 build or take my build if they wanna build a new one. Thanks for your help!
Pattern Posted October 11, 2023 Share #2 Posted October 11, 2023 Hey, i also plan to build a N100 Setup but i am also looking for more information. Did you consider using the ASRock N100DC-ITX? You won't need the Picu PSU and would have more SATA ports and a full size PCI-E slot. 1
ue23 Posted October 11, 2023 Author Share #3 Posted October 11, 2023 (edited) Thanks mate! Thats even a much better idea, also the price stays the same! I will update my build as follows. I hope we will get some more feedback here, and afterwards I going to order the parts. - ASRock N100DC-ITX 150€ - PNY CS1030 250GB M.2 NVMe Gen3 25€ - Samsung 870 EVO SATA 4TB SSD 175€ - Kingston 8GB RAM KVR26N19S8/8 20€ - 19V 65Watt (5,5x2,5 mm) Power Supply 22€ - Chieftec IX-01B Mini ITX Case 32€ = TOTAL: 420€ Edited October 11, 2023 by ue23
ue23 Posted October 26, 2023 Author Share #4 Posted October 26, 2023 Just an Update from my side: I have set up the ASRock N100DC-ITX, with an USB memory stick and installed the newest DSM 7.2 via arpl-i18n. I chose DS918+ in order to be able to use transcoding. To be able to use transcoding, you will need to generate an SN and MAC prior to building the loader. You can do this when configuring the loader, as the generator is integrated there. after installing dsm, I used the following links to install the licence fix for AME. https://github.com/darknebular/Wrapper_VideoStation as seen in:

Synology doesn't support OS drives. A Cache drive? 2x Sata 4TB drives in Raid1 ? Or do you have a different backup solution that does backups often enough so you don't want a Raid. SSD as boot drive for the loader was my initial thought, which did not make sense, so I used a normal USB drive as stated in my previous posting. I just use a single 4tb SSD drive for financial reasons. I backup my files to an external USB drive locally every few days. I also backup every few month an encrypted backup to a remote nas of a friend of mine.

ue23 Posted February 5 Author Share #10 Posted February 5 Well I guess I can't help further. Thats all I did, nothing special. I guess it has to be something with your loader.

Immagino che debba essere qualcosa con il tuo caricatore. Thank you! any help is precious. Can you tell me if you have set anything specific in the bios? I suspect that's where the problem lies, otherwise I can't really explain...

bustinex Posted February 16 Share #15 Posted February 16 I'm stuck at the same point too. I read somewhere that after a loader update, it no longer worked on this card. The guy had tried to get an old release, but it automatically updated itself and therefore to no avail.
