NVP107 Posted November 28, 2022 Share #1 Posted November 28, 2022 Sorry if I posted in the wrong section! Hello everyone, Need your help, I have an old Dell OptiPlex 390 i5-2500 2nd Gen, 16GB of RAM and (2)x3TB drives, motherboard has 4 SATA ports, it’s a generic Dell motherboard very basic. I would like to install DSM 6/7 on it to use it for backup/cloud sync. I was following instructions for DS920+ and DS3622xs+ I was able to install it and get the IP address but I’m getting “No drives detected” message”. I believe that my sata ports are not being recognized correctly. Also, I did check BIOS for Hot Swap/Plug options it’s not available it’s a dell very basic BIOS. Can this computer be used or it’s not compatible? I will only be using (2) drives, so I don’t care which DS model I use as longest it works and stable. rojoone2 Posted November 29, 2022 Share #2 Posted November 29, 2022 I also have an old Optiplex 390 that I have not been able to install DSM 7.x.x on. I don't think it can be used for Xpenology. I have tried DS3615, DS3617 DS1621 and DS3622 with TCRP, ARPL and M Shell. I get the same "No drives detected" message. The processor is too old for most other platforms.. so I did no try any others I have read somewhere that the 390's SATA controller is to blame because there are a number of dummy ports that you cannot disable or bypass because of the basic BIOS settings. I also have an Optiplex 3020 that installs most platforms that I have tested on it.
NVP107 Posted November 30, 2022 Author Share #3 Posted November 30, 2022 I have ordered cheap PCI addon SATA raid card from Amazon, going to give a try to see if the drives get recognized with this new controller. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07R3YFFR7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=

NVP107 Posted December 6, 2022 Author Share #5 Posted December 6, 2022 I got a good news the expansion SATA card worked, I got a different card and will be returning the first one because I forgot that it's not PCI it's PCIEx1 or 4 also this card only has 2 SATA ports that's all I needed. I was able to successfully install DS3622xs+ DSM 7.1.1-42962 Update 1 in Satamap it said that I have 5 ports and I left it at all 5 open. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09X18XWPH?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1 The DSM booted with drives in critical condition trying to run SMART test to clear them and one of them is taking awhile hopefully it clears. I disabled the onboard SATA ports in BIOS.
