DSM 7.1 dosnt detect new HDD's + crash

Aeit

Question

Hello,
I'm new to this. Yesterday I have installed DSM 7.1 on TCRP
Everything worked fine on my 500GB HDD. Did it for testing purposes and how PLEX is working.

But sadly I made a basic RAID-1 storage pool.
I'm not interested in raid so I wanted to switch to SSH.
Obviously, it's not possible so I pulled another HDD and plugged it. No matter the SATA port it was not detected. I can't create a new pool.
I have restarted DSM and the new HDD didn't show up + the initial one shows a critical crash - read-only.

I'm just lost ... it's late and I don't want to pull my cables to connect the monitor in order to reinstall everything.
Plus I want to know what's going on for future expansions.
I have read it's possible due to SATA IDE Combined Mode but still I have to pull monitor for that ...

I would like to make DSM work in future so I can add as many HDD I can.

My mobo
MSI B450 Tomahawk

Im making a new build. Switxhing from 920 to DS918

And found out:

Im making new build ... 918 instead DS920+ And found that info:

tc@box:~$ ./rploader.sh satamap

Found "03:00.1 Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD] Device 43c8 (rev 01)"
Detected 8 ports/2 drives. Bad ports: 3 4 7 8. Override # of ports or ENTER to accept <8>

Found "28:00.2 Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD] FCH SATA Controller [AHCI mode] (rev 51)"
Detected 1 ports/0 drives. Override # of ports or ENTER to accept <1>

Computed settings:
SataPortMap=81
DiskIdxMap=0008

WARNING: Bad ports are mapped. The DSM installation will fail!

Should i update the user_config.json with these values ? [Yy/Nn] n
OK remember to update manually by editing user_config.json file

Also

It looks that you will need the following modules :

Found SATA Controller : pciid 1022d000043c8  Required Extension :
No matching extension

You probably used the master branch of TCRP.

The master branch uses pocopico's outdated static dtb patch driver, unlike the develop branch.

This static driver seems to recognize only disks fixed before DSM installation.

( redpill-dtb-static on LINE 290 )

https://github.com/pocopico/tinycore-redpill/blob/main/custom_config.json

For dynamic dtb patching, I recommend using my m shell whenever possible.

Download it from within the TC Linux command as shown below and try to build the DS920+ loader again.

If you still can't see the additional drive, please send the log I requested first.

curl --location "https://github.com/PeterSuh-Q3/tinycore-redpill/raw/main/my.sh.gz" -O

tar -zxvf my.sh.gz

./my.sh DS920+

Also, please refer to the result of solving another issue with DS918+ in today's general question section.

DS918+ doesn't seem to support 6-Core 12-Thread.

So, I tried disabling HT(SMT) in the BIOS and downgrading it to 6-Core 6-Thread to see a successful case.

This is the content confirmed by the DSM 6 jun loader.

DSM 7 REDPILL is not yet validated.

I will post the results of my test again tomorrow.

@Peter Suhthanks for reply.
Yes I lost like 6h today learing and figuring out.
Sadly i returned to 920+ because of Device Tree mapping.

Yes, once you build DS920+ no matter the current SATA state - bad or not it will work.
But if you try to add any drive later on it wont be recognized.
So I will wait if things get more stable and clear before investing in few new HDDS for SHR.

Im running:
DSM 7.1 DS920 on:
MSI B450 Tomahawk

Ryzen 5 2600
RridentZ 16 3600 cl18
Some shitty Gigabite gpu

The test results are out.

As shown in the flyride guide below, Apollo Lake (DS918+) and Gemini Lake (DS920+) have a limit of 8 threads.
If your Ryzen 2600 or 3600 is using 12 threads
Be sure to turn off SMT.
It should be fixed with no more than 8 threads.

Did anything change in past year?
I have to build new image or what to make it working as intended?
