Beast Posted August 25, 2015 #1 Posted August 25, 2015 I installed ESKi 6 on a USB for my HP Proliant Microserver G8. The install successfully completed but the Microserver won't boot up from the USB with ESKi installation. I made sure the first boot device is USB but still no luck. Any idea why?
koroziv Posted August 25, 2015 #2 Posted August 25, 2015 Hi look here: http://vmtoday.com/2012/09/esxi-5-wont-boot-from-usb/ not my blog but I had the same issue, and that did it for me; you have to install esxi 6.0 again on that usb, using that guide
Beast Posted August 25, 2015 Author #3 Posted August 25, 2015 Thank you for your reply. I will have a look at that. I also found this which may help me as I have a HP Microserver. http://www8.hp.com/us/en/products/serve ... 5#tab=TAB4
koroziv Posted August 26, 2015 #4 Posted August 26, 2015 I also used a custom hp image, so you might have the same issue, solved as described in that link If you have a gen8 microserver here is a forum with a lot of useful info : http://homeservershow.com/forums/index. ... -ms-gen-8/
Beast Posted August 26, 2015 Author #5 Posted August 26, 2015 I can confirm that your suggestion fixed my problem but I have a new one. During the install ESXi does not recognize any of my hard drives. Only the USB drives. I guess I need to include the drivers for the hard drives? Edit: it turns out that I needed to modify bios setting to enable legacy support for my hard drives.
