  1. maybe they have been put off by the frustration of replying to dozens and dozens of mindless requests from posters requesting step by step install instructions, can they have a full install image regardless of being told dozens of time its includes propriety Synology code, how to get face recogonition working or a number of other out of place posts which dont add anything to the project moving forward  in a developer section when THOR Group and others have said all along it isnt even in Beta stage yet.

The same fate will fall to anyone else taking this on unless the Developer topic is kept right on track and we, including myself, who dont have the coding or analytiucal skills have the patience to leave it to the experts to hopefully bring it to a satisfactory conclusion.

  2. Currently using a desktop with Asrock Z78 mb, intel i5-4670, 16gb memory, 3 x sata drives 1 x SDD running Win 7 Pro PLUS HP Gen 8 Microserver with Intel E1265v2, 16gb memory, 4 x 2tb drives running Xpenology,

I have bought a SilverStone CS380 V2 Mid Tower case with 5 x 3.5 hot swap sas/sata bays, 3 x 3.5 bays, 2 x 5.25 bays and a Corsair RM850X  850watt power supply. I am looking to try and combine my windows 7 Pro desktop operating system ( maybe upgrade to Windows 11 or Windows server ) stuff on the 3 sata drives and run my xpenology server on the hot swap bays. Should I buy a Raid card, software raid, run virtual server or what would be the best configuration for performance and fault tolerance. Suggestions please and any recommendations on affordable MB, CPU peripherals most grateful.

The idea is to have the one unit run everything, is that practical or is that too much to ask ?

Yes, but devs need technically experienced and capable users who can follow detailed instructions and provide good quality feedback and diagnostics beyond "it doesn't work".

If you can't follow the instructions to build redpill-lkm and redpill-load at the moment you're not ready for testing it, sorry.

My point exactly, technically capable users yes, everyone else no just leave it to the experts, be patient and it will happen.

i think i stay on 6.2.3-25426 update 3 and wait for a stable version of the redpill

A very sensible thing to do, I am the same position as you with very limited knowledge of Linux, Proxmox or ESXI. My xpenology server is working fine and that is how I will leave it until the final working version becomes available with easy to follow instructions.

It's a shame there are so many impatient Noobie questions keep appearing taking up the time of the hardworking individuals trying to get this working for all of us.

  5. I am currently running an HP Gen8 Microserver 16gb memory and E3-1265L V2 currently running as a baremetal XPenology server with Plex Server as the only app curently installed so is bare metal - ESXi or Proxmox the way I should be looking to go now with the new loader and V7 + versions as I seem to remember someone on here saying Proxmox was the way to go now ?

    Hi bearcat,

i have built the driver for DS918+.

It seems the driver need firmware, so i have put it in the zip too.

you can load the driver with insmod /path/to/tg3.ko

Let me know if it work

    Broadcom-TG3.zip

Isn't the CPU in the HP Gen8 a Haswell which is the wrong Intel processor version for DS918+  in which case will the installation of this not fail ?

  7. - Outcome of the update: SUCCESSFUL

    - DSM version prior update: DSM 6.2-23739 Update 1

    - Loader version and model: JUN'S LOADER v1.03b - DS3617xs

    -  Using custom extra.lzma: NO

    - Installation type: BAREMETAL - HP MicroServer Gen8

    - Additional comments: Updated to DSM 6.2-23739 Update 2 no problem

  8. took the chance, backed up config and all my files and followed the tutorial exactly as written by Polanskiman at https://xpenology.com/forum/topic/7973-tutorial-installmigrate-dsm-52-to-61x-juns-loader/ which went like a dream with no problems on my N54L. Did the updates to 6.1.7 Update 2 with no problems,  then uninstalled Plex and reinstalled 64bit version and everything now working okay, all files intact and lost nothing.

    • Thanks 1
  9. It would be really useful to add the hardware your running Xpenology on when posting on update versions working or not, it would be of great help those of us who have not yet updated to decide if it is safe to update our particular hardware based on other users experiences.

I want to add my Thank You to the guys who have spent their valuable time and effort in bringing this very useful software to us and for free, I for one appreciate it.
