@bearcat i pretty much did the same as your tutorial and i got the structure as @cheaphpbox i downloaded them from the link in dsm 6.2 loader for ds3615xs

i also used the same tools mentioned i.e osfmount rufus and notepad++

same symptoms as what @cheaphpbox has explained in his post

Yep same for me. I used my mac instead to mount and edit the file using dd.

I downloaded the bootloader from DSM 6.2 loader page.

i first downloaded the ds3617 1.03b and i could see BOOTX64.efi in it, then i tried 3615 1.03b and same. then i tried ds918+ 1.04 and that was showing the grub.cfg file but any edits i made to the file it wouldnt save it. (It was mounted as RW). I tried it a few times mounting/unmounting.

then i mounted the 1.03b as ram drive and i could see the grub.cfg but couldnt edit it.

Im also in the same boat. I cant see it in osfmount but its visible in poweriso

but i cant edit the iso image using poweriso free

i also noticed if i mount it as a ram drive in osfmount i can see the files, but the changes dont get saved.

Thanks to @koroziv

there is a post how to fix this issue:

SHR on dsm6:

edit synoinfo.conf located in /etc.defaults/synoinfo. conf

comment out / delete

supportraidgroup="yes"

then add

support_syno_hybrid_raid ="yes"

i guess i answered my own question. so 3615xs does not support Disk Group.

i tried porting to DS916+ since this is like a new install for me however i cant find my NAS in synology assistant.

is it possible my NIC drivers are present in the image for DS3615xs and not in DS916+ ?

Hi Guys,

just wondering how do i create an SHR with 6.1.2

i backed up my data and deleted my volumes and raid group to migrate to btrfs

but i dont see an option to be able to create SHR. i have different size drives 1TB,2TB,4TB

any advice?

Thanks i did the same thing, removed the default Virtual Disk and added the synoboot.vmdk as SCSI 0:0 independent and persistent

however i still get the Format 35 error

i get error 35 cannot format the disk when i try to do a new install ESXi 6.0

is your synoboot attached as Restricted Virtual Disk or SCSI 0:0?

Thank you, i'll try it out. are there any issues with the latest 6.1.1 running on esxi?

i noticed my volume is ext4, is there a way to upgrade it to btrfs or do i need to delete the volume and create a new one?

I dont want to loose my data

Thanks meimeiriver, i used Jun's esxi download link and uploaded the OVF template

linked my RDM to the new VM, connected a serial port, and started the VM

synology assistant saw it as migratable, chose migration option and provided the 8451 patch file

now i am on 6.0.2-8451 with no data loss

how did you copy the loader to ESXi server? i get IO error if i try to deploy the OVF template

did you have to do any modifications to the img ?

did you upgrade from 5.2 or clean install?

Hi Guys,

i am running DSM 5.1-5022 Update 5 on my ESXi 6.0

i want to upgrade to DSM 6.0.2. i dont care about the settings but want to keep my data intact.

can someone please advise? do i need to upgrade to 5.2 first?

Hi Guys,

i have installed XPEnology Version 5 update 5 on my ESXi box. I am using RDM for my data hard drives.

i am aware that smart is not functional in this version of XPEnology, however it is causing hibernation issues and my disks do not sleep/standby.

they wake up soon after entering hibernation.

there is nothing in the /var/log/messages escept that the smart is not able to read disk values on sda,sdb and sdc my 3 disks respectively.

is anyone else facing this problem ?

is there any workaround for it ?
