    strange

    root@DS2:~# dmesg | grep drm
    root@DS2:~# dmesg | grep i915
    root@DS2:~# cat /var/log/dmesg | grep i915
    root@DS2:~# cat /var/log/dmesg | grep drm
    root@DS2:~# cat /var/log/dmesg | grep DRM

    no DRM or i915 messages???

  2. sudo find / -name synocodectool

    tells me

    /usr/syno/bin/synocodectool

    /volume1/Apps/DS2/Scripts/synocodectool-patch-master/synocodectool

    /volume2/@appstore/VideoStation/bin/synocodectool

so I don't have the tool in a "MediaServer" folder like others have listed, so I targetted the latest Video station app (2.4.8-1611) via self modified pkg.

    sha1sum /volume2/@appstore/VideoStation/bin/synocodectool
    1d01ee38211f21c67a4311f90315568b3fa530e6  /volume2/@appstore/VideoStation/bin/synocodectool

Patched the 2 copies it found. not sure if it worked our not, but the script didn't complain. I still have driver issues to work on I think as I don't have a /dev/dri folder yet.

I believe it is working as

    cat /usr/syno/etc/codec/activation.conf
    {"success":true,"activated_codec":["hevc_dec","ac3_dec","h264_dec","h264_enc","aac_dec","aac_enc","mpeg4part2_dec","vc1_dec","vc1_enc"],"token":"123456789987654abc"}

    and

sudo cat /var/log/messages | grep SN
does not seem to be incrementing SN errors any longer

  3. Clean USB and HDD install. 6.2.3-25426 918+. 104b, v11 extra and extra2, plus 2 files from pat 6.2.3-25426. hw transcoding was working correctly in plex. I swapped the cpu from 8350K to 9600K and now plex will no longer hw transcode. even though this was a clean build I tried the rm -rf /usr/lib/modules/update/ and reboot, but it didn't make any difference. I though maybe I needed the very latest i915 driver inside the latest video station (not sure if it would matter to plex but i thought to try) downloaded it from the link in this thread, modified it to apollolake and installed it, ignoring the package is corrupt message. it installed ok, but no improvement to plex ... still no hw transcode in plex ....

I do not have a /dev/dri folder, but I don't think plex needs that ...

  6. new version of 6.2.3-25426 released for a ton of models old and new. I installed it on my real 1815+ over the old 6.2.3 no issue, so I rebuilt my xpenology system DSM from scratch with it (didn't touch my boot USB) seems to have lost hw decode on my i3-8350k, similar to the i3-9100 others see. I am grateful to see that my LSI is still working (including SMART test) and my intel 10gigE is still working. I will have to try adding in the .11 extra /extra+ pack to my USB

Can you confirm if you can use hw transcoding in plex? 9xxx CPUs were difficult in the past, so I moved to 8xxx

  9. absolutely, I have had that package installed for a while now, it used to work quite a while back.  Yes it does restart and shutdown correctly from the GUI. I just would like to be able to shut it down using the physical power button.  the power button will do an oldschool forced shutdown it I hold it four 4 seconds, so the button is OK.

just remove the button.ko and evdev.ko  from /usr/lib/modules

there are new one in /usr/lib/modules/update already

    ..

and rebooting your system should be able to use acpi power off

the plugin needs to be extended for 6.2.2 and needs new button.ko/evdev.ko files (can be extraxted from my extra.lzma's)

I tried to pull those two files from your 918 extra.lzma and put them both in the /usr/lib/modules/update AND the /usr/lib/modules/

folder, rebooted, and my power button still does not shut down my physical

    suggestions to troubleshoot?

  11. Is there an easy way to use winSCP or something like that to update these files? I cant get the winscp session to be elevated to SU to have enough permission to write to folders like this. Similarly, the File station app can't browse these folders either.

Hi i have running fine with LSI LSI 9207-8i and a 2 port 1G card. But recently I changed the network card to a X550-T2 10G card, it caused the LSI crashed or not detected.

If both are in, my hdd and volume will not show. but the 10G interfaces all ok.

If I removed the 10G card, the LSI is ok.

If I run the synology on top of esxi 6.7 I can detected both card. But after i passthru them, the LSI will crashed after sometime and become not passthru again.

I changed to run bare metal, as long as the X550 card is in, my volume cant be detected, I only managed to get it detected once but after reboot is gone again.

Any idea? how should I troubleshoot this?

    - DSM version prior update: DSM 6.2.2

    - Loader version and model: v1.04b - 918+

    - Using custom extra.lzma: NO

    - Installation type: BAREMETAL -

    mb: asrock z370m pro4

    cpu: i7-8700

    LSI 9207-8i

    X550-T2 network card

Additional comments: volume not detected, LSI not working after change to X550-T2.

I have something very similar with no issues. I have an HP LBA (LSI based) for the extra 8 SATA ports, I have an HP dual 10GigE (SFP+) NIC, even an intel SSD750-400 NVME SSD in there. motherboard is an asus prime a 390. DSK to date, 918+, v1.04b, no extra.lzma, baremetal, i3-8350

    This is great, thanks.

Does the current 918+ loader works with coffee lake CPUs also?

I ran mine with a i5-9600K. (6.22 918+ 1.04b) xpenology was fine, but, at that time at least, plex didn't support hw transcoding on it correctly, so I swapped it for an i3-8100, and since moved to an overclocked i3-8350K. no changes were required anywhere in xpenology.

  14. I had a CRS226 it was a great switch if you didnt want LACP channel bonding.  Well still have it, its in a box now but ....

    a couple other points

sfp+ fiber modules can be had for 20-30$, so they are not Super expensive either, plus 10-20 for the LC/LC fiber patch cable.

Mikrotic has 75$ SFP+ modules that support N-baseT, so if you must use copper, you can do so at 2.5, 5.0, or 10 gbps

Mikrotik has a 5 meter fiber cable with integrated sfp+ for less than 50$

I don't think if you set the same SN and Mac on several device will still work OK.

Try to find a different SN

    @mervincm I have Intel® UHD Graphics 610 on G5400 gold series is a 9th Gen cpu

So it's a good probability that the 9th Gen cpu will work.

work specifically to hardware transcode plex? this functionality is brand new, so it would have just started working.

  16. I don't know why turbo modes are not supported, but there is quite a bit of chatter about it spread around this forum, and I have yet to find anyone getting it to work on the DSM config I use at least (6.2.2u3 w 1.04b and DS918+)

The best web GUI I have found for performance data on a DSM system is netdata in a docker, but while there is PILES of interesting stuff in real time, precious little on CPU frequency.

I wonder what order these are listed in? if it is phys, phys, phys, virt, virt, virt, virt , maybe it is just a display issue? virtual HT CPUs can't run at a higher frequency than the core performing the work right?

Even if it is Phys, virt, phys, virt etc. Is that even possible? I know individual cores can go UP from base to turbo, but can individual cores go DOWN from base to speedstep? I understood that was a CPU wide change?

maybe this is all just cosmetic?

Speaking of turbo, it lists your max, but your turbo is never used. That is ALOT of untapped CPU, expecially on an L CPU. PS this is why I use the i3s. no turbo :)

If you want, you can use variables to adjust speed and steps according to you're load profil.

is there something you can point to better understand the load profiles? The speed is just CPU frequency, so that is simple to understand.

acpi-cpufreq driver gather frequencies from ACPI tables, so it's certainly related to your bios ACPI implementation. Try to tweak cpu and acpi settings in bios, it may help. Maybe this CPU is not completly supported on this mobo (bios update ?).

BIOS support for this CPU was in there from the initial release. The systemboard is a gen newer than the CPU actually. I can play with the BIOS, but Windows tools like CPUz read it correctly (if that matters)

    Thank you!
