  1. Thanks Polanskiman. Re-imaging usb key let me see the Nas back with "Migratable" status.

But under "Migratable", all my settings are gone even a server (Nas) name and I cannot change it back.

In this case, I'd better re-format all my 12 HDDs and re-build a new Nas from beginning.

It costs me time a lot to re-build and therefore, for those who are going to build a AMD Nas like me, BE CAREFUL. You'd better wait for Jun's V1.02a for AMD or just stay where you're at DSM 6.0.2 (or DSM 5.2). Do not update and you're warned.

  2. I couldn't wait till Jun launches out DSM V1.02a for AMD bare metal.

Today, I might as well decide to use V1.01 to build an AMD Nas. Everything looked fine during the setup until it asked me to update.

Checked Polanskiman's tutorial and found he said "You can then proceed and update DSM 6.0 up to DSM 6.0.2-8451 update 11".

Once again, I followed him and downloaded DSM 6.0.2-8451 update 11 http://from here viewtopic.php?f=2&t=33043 (Critical Updates specifically for DSM 6.0.2 can be found here - the last line for U11). And of course, I picked the correct model DS3615xs.

Unfortunately after I manually updated to U11 from the .pat file I downloaded, my Nas now can't be seen from the network anymore. Doesn't matter how hard I tried such as "force install", "hard boot",... it's completely gone.

Have you guys seen this issue before? I really need your help and much appreciate it.

    Thanks.

  3. You don't need to have a iso file. There is a .vmx file in the latest of Jun's loader, directly open it with your vmware workstation pro 12, then a vm is ready for you. just add your extra disks to this vm and boot it.

    Sorry for my newbie question.

How do I open .vmx file directly by VMware workstation? Do I have to replace "VMname".vmx by DS3615xs.vmx I just downloaded from Jun and then hit Power button on VM?

    Thanks.

  4. Hi Everyone,

...Because I upgraded mine to a xeon, I can run more than one OS and pass through a disk controller (Dell H310 flashed in IT mode) to xpenology.

    ...So hi everyone

Hi, I also have Dell H310 in IT mode. How did you pass through disk controller to xpenology? And you can see S.M.A.R.T after the "pass through"? Are your HDDs spinning down/ sleeping now in idle time?

    Thanks.

  5. Has anybody successfully built a Nas based on new DSM 6.0.2 loader on VMWare Workstation?

Do I need an iso or img file to boot it up?

    Thanks a lot.

Yes I did it. Check fiew post, i describes what I did.

If you want your vm to autoboot, create a batch file with "vmware - x yourvmfile".

I store 1 VMK / disk. So if one disk fails, i add a new one, and recreate the missing vmk

I read all your other posts but didn't see how you boot it up on VMWare Workstation.

Once again, do I need an iso or just download img file to boot from it?

    Thanks.

  6. It works using Jun's newest loader on my Windows 10 with VMWARE workstation pro 12, choose VMWARE option in grub menu when it is boot in workstation.

I use RDM to pass the hard disks to workstation, 3*4T (2 WD Red NASWARE 3.0+1 seagate es.3) RAID5, no S.M.A.R.T monitoring is available in xpenology (but you can check it by tools installed in Windows still). Although in vmware workstation documentation it says only hard disks below 2T is supported in RDM, but 4T works for me until now (although only 1.1T is in use currently).

    Thanks, finally I got you.

A quick question here is how you booted into grub menu? I can burn .img file of Jun into a usb flash drive and boot it up on a bare metal machine. But with a VM Workstation, do I have to have a iso file and put it in CD/DVD drive of virtual machine to boot it up?

    Correct me if I'm wrong.

Once again, thank you for your precious reply.

  7. Human being is not perfect and therefore things they've made also not perfect either. You think you have no risk if you buy Windows or Mac?

If you don't trust it, do use it. Why bother?

  8. Hello everyone, when I use ESXI 6.0 U2 for DSM 6, I have no way to see my Disk info thru S.M.A.R.T. In other words, my Nas has no spin down (hibernation) at all.

For those who are using ESXI 6.0 U2, can you see it?

    Thanks.

  9. Hi guys,

Here is my updated ramdisk.lzma. Backup your existing ramdisk.lzma (for sure) from image/DS3615xs/ on your usb boot drive and replace it with the ramdisk.lzma from archive.

    Change log:

    Added below kernel modules:

    r8101: RTL8100E/RTL8101E/RTL8102E-GR/RTL8103E(L) RTL8102E(L)/RTL8101E/RTL8103T RTL8401/RTL8401P/RTL8105E RTL8402/RTL8106E/RTL8106EUS

    * Note: r8169 from Trantor archive doesn't work with my on-board Realtek RTL8111GR. So I kept the existing which is also much bigger.

    evdev, button: for acpid

Compiling any disk adapter modules is not possible at the moment due to unexported syno_libata_get_index function (declared in libata-core). So only way to fix it is recompile kernel (we don't have latest kernel sources to do that) or somehow modify drive adapter sources to not depends on syno_libata_get_index function.

    A newbie question.

Just don't know what you meant

    evdev, button: for acpid

My humble guess is if I use your updated ramdisk.lzma, I can simply turn off my Nas by pressing the button, no more no less right?

    Thanks.

  10. I tried the new bootloader, but my LSI M1015 SAS controller is not working, only seeing the drives from my motherboard SATA. I`m gonna wait until the drivers are included in the new loader.

Next time don't waist your value time. Read first...

  11. Report... report... report... annoying BIOS reset still exists on new loader!

I used new loader to install DSM 6 on (bare metal) my Asus Intel H87 plus mobo. Everything looked fine until the first reboot right after configurations written on HDDs. All I have is a blank screen. It even didn't let me log in BIOS to take a look after I disconnected all drives. Had to do a trick by taking battery out, clearing CMOS to set BIOS back up.

Next step, when I tried to update to DSM 6.0.2-8451 Update 2, after the reboot, once again the nightmare is back - got BIOS reset again.

Tried both Jun's image as well as hybrid image at page 10 but no luck.

Anybody has any experience or solutions that can help please advise. Thanks.

Your inputs would be much appreciated.

  12. My 3rd party WOL tools are working fine...I had been busy pasting in a MAC address that had a typo in it. Once I spotted my error and corrected it the tools worked. Also remember to use the same mac as used in the grub config file.

What is your 3rd party tools?

When you use those, did you have to add the Powerdown sh script to the rc.d folder?

If I use DS Finder to wake my nas up thru phone, should I add the Powerdown sh script to the rc.d folder?

  13. Hi all,

My xpenology Nas running DSM 5.2-5644 Update 5 just fine. People told me if I want to use DSM 6, definitely I have to change PID, VID (according to my current USB drive) and MAC as well as SN (according to excel file) to have it runs correctly. Why?

I really want to build another Nas that's running on DSM 6. But before that I need to know why I have to do this, do that...

Thanks and your inputs would be much appreciated.
