  1. Hi, and many thanks for your reply, not a total novice, already running XPEnology on an earlier HP microserver which I installed sometime ago. I think that I have been reading too much on this issue as I was convinced there had been a dedicated pat file developed for the Gen8, hence I was definitely heading in the wrong direction with this project. Appreciate the information you have given. Have already updated the bios on the HP site so there is a tick against that, just need to locate those 2 important files. Thanks
  2. Could anyone provide the link for the download of files for the HP Gen8, I understand there is a specific pat file and loader for this microsever, but I am unable to find it. Thanks
  3. Thanks for that, will give it a try. Are you using a USB drive to boot, or is there a better method?
  4. I have just ordered a HP Microserver Gen8 G1610T and would like to install XPEnoligy on it. Would appreciate if someone could point me to a link on how to do this. Other areas I am not sure about:- 1 Do I need to do a bios or firmware update on the gen8 before I start. 2 Which is the best version to use, Not worried about the data on my current server which is a n40l running an earlier version of XPEnoligy, happy to start from scratch. 3 Can I boot from a micro card or USB, or would it be best to use an ssd? Appreciate any advise or guidence.
  5. Both, would like to be able to sync some spreadsheets, and backup my computers to Xpenology. I assume the one disadvantage using this instead of a dedicated server is you cant get the benefit of having an account. Have played around with cloud backup but would prefer to manage myself.
  6. I would very much like to get a reliable backup and file sync working on XPEnology. I assume the standard cloud based option are a no no based on not having a synology account. Would appreciate any suggestions from all you experienced users as there is quite a few other options listed in the packaged section.
  7. OK, makes sense, will give it ago. Thanks for taking the time in giving me some support, always testing when you make a switch to a completely different package to what you are use to.
  8. Ok that explains it, have never used RAID before my WHS11 use to back up my pc and files automatically, so had no need for it. I assume I will have to delete the volume, and start again, or is there anyway I can change the volume without starting again?
  9. Don't know, the drives were installed at the time of the installation, and they all show as being normal and with the correct size. Could Raid be the issue, notice it does have (SHR) next to it, has it allocated my space for this? Information under volume shows this:- Synology RAID (SHR) with data protection of 1 disk fault tolerance. Also under overview it is showing 9 slots available, not sure what this is.
  10. Notable to send screenshot, keep getting this message, can I send it in a PM? Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached.
  11. I have been to the volume/ manage section, it is greyed out, the only option available is data scrubbing, disk group tap is also not available. Should I remove the volume and start again? Screenshot on its way.
  12. Hi, and thanks for responding. Could you expand, where is this option, and how do you go about it? Have not seen this option in storage manager, and have noticed I am unable to create a disk group.
  13. Still trying to get to grips with this new software, so another noob question for you experts. I have 3 hard drives installed which are all shown in the volume section with their correct size shown, total volume should be around 2.6 tb but only available is 724 gb. It looks like disk 3 which is 1863 gb has no space or not included, but I assume it was formatted during installation time. Unlike my old WHS11 server, it appears all 3 drives are shown as I volume is this correct? As a point of interest there is no option to create a disk group, could this be part of the problem, and in overview / disk information ( Used disks 3) (Hot spare 0) (Unused disk 0) (Available slots 9) Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.
  14. Hi Thanks for responding, Your advice was good, had a look within the server settings and indeed there was an error on the dns server setting, changed that and all working OK. Many thanks
  15. Have just installed XPEnology on my microserver, followed the instructions and all working well. Have added squeezebox, and audio media server and again all good. The problem is when I close down my main computer the server is no longer visible on any of my other devices, TV, squeezebox, and my other network computers. It almost looks like I have installed in on my main computer, but clearly that is not the case, but they appeared to be linked and it will open operate when this computer is on. I have shared folders on the network allocating a drive letter, which again is visible to all my computers only when my main computer is on. I am not sure if I have made an error on installation, or is there some other setting that needs to be done to resolve this problem. Has anyone else had this problem, or could offer some guidance on this issue? Any help would be much appreciated.
  16. OK thanks everyone, got it sorted, it was the different pat file, started from the beginning and it worked first time. Now all I have to do is set it up, a lot different from my old WHS11 server software, so a steep learning curve I think.
  17. Yes thanks, you are right, I have tried to download the correct pat file, but downloads will not let download it, very strange, looks like I will have to start from the beginning.
  18. Hi, thanks for your reply, did manage to sort out, but still having problems. Have located nas on my pc and the setup page appears, when I click for setup it gets to 57% and then stops with a message:- ( Failed to install the file the file is probably corrupted (13) I do understand the correct procedure now, I need the same pat file as the image file which is loaded on my nas, but downloads is not letting me have the correct pat file. Best option is to start again, but which image and pat file is the best option for my 40l, there are so many in the downloads? Appreciate any guidance on this problem.
  19. Many thanks for the help, I assuming that when my micro server boots up via the usb image I should get a start screen of some type, but I am getting a dos type screen with a logon request which does nothing. Should there be 2 usb drives one a boot drive and the other with image/software or should I copy a file to the spare hard drive which is allocated for the software? Still unable to upload a picture of the screen. Appreciate your help.
  20. Not sure what I am doing wrong, have downloaded DS3615xs 5.2-5644.5 x64, burnt the image file it to a usb stick with win32 disk manager. All the files load OK and I am offered 3 choices:- XPEnology DSM 5.2-5565 XPEnology 5.2-5565 debug XPEnology 5.2-5565 install/upgrade They all end up end up with a logon request in a dos screen ( Diskstation logon ) which does nothing. Unable at this stage to upload picture, assume as I am a new member. Do I need windows installed om my ProLiant 40L for this to work, or is this package totally self contained? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
  21. Hi all New to this forum and XPEnoligy, currently running HP 40l with Windows Home Server 11, and would like to move to this nas software. I have read the installation procedure and would like to know if the ProLiant 40L is the same or are additional tweaks required. What size usb is required for the bootup disk. Appreciate any advice on offer to get me started.
