Vae Posted September 1, 2014 #1 Posted September 1, 2014 (edited) Hello, I've followed a tutorial to install XPEnology on an HP Proliant N54L. The installation went without major problems, and covered everything up to the installation of a single 2To disk. I then installed by myself a second 2To disk to DSM, without any problem (so I have a single volume with two 2To disks, using SHR). Now I'm trying to add a third disk to the Raid, and I'm unable to do so. The disk is seen by ESXi and I can add it to the VM (it then says I have 5.46To available for the Diskstation VM), but when I'm in DSM, the third disk is nowhere to be seen :-/ I've tried several disks (I plan to have 4 * 2To disks in SHR in the end), and several ports, but the result is the same. I don't think it's a material problem, I must be doing something wrong... I tried searching for another topic with the same problem, and "Trantor" asked for this : ~ # fdisk -l *** *** The fdisk command is deprecated: fdisk does not handle GPT partitions. Vae Posted September 1, 2014 Author #2 Posted September 1, 2014 Sorry for the double post, but I think I've seen something interesting. If I do the "fdisk -l" command via SSH not on ESXi, but directly on the Diskstation, I get this : DiskStation> fdisk -l Disk /dev/sda: 2000.3 GB, 2000398934016 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 243201 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sda1 1 311 2490240 fd Linux raid autodetect Partition 1 does not end on cylinder boundary /dev/sda2 311 572 2097152 fd Linux raid autodetect Partition 2 does not end on cylinder boundary /dev/sda3 588 243201 1948788912 f Win95 Ext'd (LBA) /dev/sda5 589 243201 1948780864 fd Linux raid autodetect Disk /dev/sdb: 2000.3 GB, 2000398934016 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 243201 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sdb1 1 311 2490240 fd Linux raid autodetect Partition 1 does not end on cylinder boundary /dev/sdb2 311 572 2097152 fd Linux raid autodetect Partition 2 does not end on cylinder boundary /dev/sdb3 588 243201 1948788912 f Win95 Ext'd (LBA) /dev/sdb5 589 243201 1948780864 fd Linux raid autodetect Disk /dev/sdc: 2000.3 GB, 2000398934016 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 243201 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sdc1 1 243201 1953512001 7 HPFS/NTFS DiskStation> So the third disk is seen here, but I don't see it in the graphical interface... I don't get it...
Vae Posted September 3, 2014 Author #3 Posted September 3, 2014 Well, I finally figured out my problem. When following the tutorial, someone pointed to a wrong dsm.pat file and I ended up installing DSM for DS214play, which is the "OS" for a NAS with only two hard drives... After upgrading to the correct 5.0 4493, I'm able to add my third drive.
