  1. The Optiplex 745, 755, and 760 all suffer from the corrupt BIOS issue when rebooting/shutting down from DSM. There are no BIOS protections for those models that I have found to protect the BIOS from DSM's CMOS write which occurs at reboot/shutdown. The Optiplex 780 and 790 (and likely newer models as well) that use the graphical BIOS work like a dream. You can update, restart, shutdown from the DSM without any worry of BIOS corruption.

    Hi ctout,

So far i have no problem. all this model i use. Only one problem time bios change.

Are your dell model update latest bios ?

  2. Thought that might be the case

So at the moment it has installed automatically but to complete the installation I have to select a .pat file manually right?

If so, can you tell me what .pat file this is please? is it the 5644 one?

    Or,

Do I have to let the box select automatically what .pat file it is and let the installation complete before i can revert back manually?

don`t be so sad... yes you need select manual. before process select manual you need to download the file DSM DS3615sx_5644.pat.

  3. Mine too was on auto update

Is there a way to revert back but keep all settings and packages?

I have many settings and scripts plus a lot of camera settings on surveillance station 7.1 and quite a few packages.

    Hi paddlingpool...

there was no way keep the settings of the packages.

only data file will retain ...

    Hi Mentat,

I just share my experience about this problem. (Not trolling).

In any DSM version 5.x will have automatic update function. This function can set to turn off for automatic updates.

it look like you did not know about this function.

I mention this is for anyone would like to recover the "Data File" only. Not the settings.

Reason DSM 6 the HDD was not mounted into system.

You can easily turn off task for updates in task manager. I thought that was obvious.

Yes...abced ... i think he really do not know.....

  6. @ingen300 - please you are trolling! We know that DSM 6 is not compatible with the current Xpenoboot!

    It was automatic updated!

The only thing that worked was:

    1. Boot into Install Upgrade mode

    2. Run SynoAssyst in order to find IP

    3. Open browser to Install Wizard

    4. Choose Clean install (delete settings, preserve files)

    5. Install DSM_5.2-5644

    6. Reboot and login with Admin and blank password

    7. Make manual upgrade (one by one), from Update-1, Update-2, Update-3, Update-5 (there is no Update-4).

The files for upgrade are here.

    8. Reconfigure the nas... (two hours).

  7. Not working for me...

    1. Boot on Install/Upgrade mod

    2. Connect via Telnet as user root and password from here

    3. Modified the etc.default/VERSION file as in the first post.

    4. Synology Assist is still detecting version 6!

If you are using DSM 5.2-5644.5 to update the DSM 6.0. Make sure backup your file to external HDD.

Reason the after install DSM 6.0-7321 you HDD will become not mounted to DSM 6.0-7321.

    Disadvantage Area Of DSM 6.0-7321

    --------------------------------------------------

    1. HDD will become not mounted into newest system (if you formatted the HDD cannot downgrade back to DSM 5.2-5644)

    2. Quick Connect can't use will prompt the system failed to perform the requested operation, there is an unknown error. (Register)

    3. Cannot format the HDD or SCSI or Hot Spare

:!: For more information downgrade DSM 6.0-7321 to DSM 5.2-5644

  8. Ok now i found y server and was logged in to DSM

But yet another problems is showing

DSM is telling me that there is a new update the update is update 5, last time this came i just installed it directly from dsm without problems, but now dsm tells me the file is broken what to do ?

Are you able retrieve your data file ?

If the DSM tell you the file is broken. Did you mean the application package is broken ?

  9. i have tried both option 1 and 2 with option 1 it just initialising and then come with an error 13 the file is broken (i use the file from xepenology.me)

with option 2 i start to formate, but after 10 % it stops and come with the same error

What is the version PAT file you load ?

are your loaded with DSM 5.2 5644.5 ? it will cause error...

    I'm loading the version.

  10. Hey i had the 5644.5 before i update to 6.0

my dam is in danish so to be sure i choose the right option in migration menu

do i have to choose option 1 or 2 ?

The first one for me not able migrate due to version is low.

But the second one for me is good. After that reboot back to normal operation DSM 5.2 5644 and the data still there.

only the package application or third party application require reinstall....

  11. i-m not sure that i understand your guide

im pretty new to this and to use ssh is not my best job

when i have my us keyabors, network cable and the via to my screen i just get an black screen with some different choices, i can't see any dam installation ?

What is the original version you use ?

After upgrade DSM 6.0 i still able chose the install and upgrade under ver DSM 5.2.......

  12. Same problem here please some help!

Accidentally updated via configuration to DSM 6 (was 5.2.5644 update 5)

When I connect a monitor and keyboard to my xpenology machine now says diskstation login (used to be different DNS)

can not connect with own credentials or any password?

what to do? don't want to lose al my files

    thanks in advance

If you not format the HDD. You will not lose your data file.

Only the package application or third party application will missing.

  13. Would it be possible to wait for a fix instead of downgrade ? I'm afraid for loosing all my data if I do anything wrong ?

The fix may not so fast release. Due to DSM 6.0 just newly launch.

DSM 6.0 cannot read the data of DSM 5.2 at the moment.

  14. If you are using DSM 5.2-5644.5 to update the DSM 6.0. Make sure backup your file to external HDD.

Reason the after install DSM 6.0-7321 you HDD will become not mounted to DSM 6.0-7321.

  15. There was another way to Downgrade without lose your data & file. Only the missing is the package installer with other settings.

please take note must remember your default username and password with the host name.

If you complete upgrade the Ver 6.0 DSM. and your would like downgrade back Ver 5.2 due to HDD was not mounted into newest DSM 6.0

    You may follow the step.

    1. You will found your storage not mounted into system. [ DO NOT FORMAT THE STORAGE ]

    2. Restart DSM Ver 6.0

    3. Select the XPEnology DSM 5.2-5644.5 Install / Upgrade

    4. After Launch the Synology Web Assist page for the Migration

    5. Select Keep the data file for migrate

    6. Manual Select the DSM 5.2-5644.PAT file. Which if you can remember installation of DSM Version you are using previously (my previous install under DSM 5.2-5644).

    7.After complete install.

8.Enter the previous host name / username / password.

9.You will found the storage is appearing mount and the data file still there.
