Hi, I am very new to the NAS world.
........
My build is:
AMD Ryzen 7 5700G with Radeon Graphics (Using the integrated GPU)
ASRock B550M Steel Legend
32 GB DDR
3x 14TB HDD Seagate
Welcome @Joewydiart to "xpenology universe".
What loader and model did you choose for your hardware?

Outcome of the update: SUCCESSFUL
- DSM version prior update: DSM 7.2-64561 with ARPL-i18n 23.5.8
- Loader version and model: arpl-i18n 23.6.2 , DS920+
- Using custom extra.lzma: NO
- Installation type: Baremetal
- Additional comments: First I tried with arpl-i18-23.5.8 a manual update from 7.2.-64561, but this was unsuccesful! The NAS wasn't reachable.😮
Second I built new boot stick with actual arpl-i18 v23.6.2. Everything seems fine now.🙂
I had to reactivate ABB with new serial number.

In the same position and need your feedback. So you used the new bootloader and selected 64561 and the same settings as before. Did you have to manually do the update or were you able to boot into 7.1 and do the update from the gui?
First during configuration process of usb-stick with loader I chosed 64561.
After then rebooting the NAS with the fresh loader stick at GUI I chosed option download 7.2 from synology server. (it was also possible the option to chose download pat-file manually from synonolgy).
Everything runs smooth now.
Then after 7.2 installation was completed and my 920+ started again with all my previous datas, settings,containers, ... were ok. I didn´t have to do extra steps manually. Nothing to rebackup or to repair manually. For example the 7.2-change replaced (old) docker package with (new) container manager package automatically during 7.2 installation.

- DSM version prior update: DSM 7.1.1-42962 Update 5
- Loader version and model: arpl-i18n 23.5.8, DS 920+
- Using custom extra.lzma: NO
- Installation type: bare metal (hardware details in my signature)
- Additional comments: Before I used another Loader: arpl-v1.1-beta2a. For updating from 7.1.1U5 to 7.2 I used arpl-i18n 23.5.8

I am now building new boot loader with 64561🙂

You can replace with i18n loader, as long as you set it exactly the same way as you usually do with original ARPL loader.
thank you. I´ll try it.

Is is the right way to extract the zip image file before flashing at usb?

@OrphéeThanks for your help and patience with me too.

Is it possible to change a loader for getting a new DSM Version without losing all my actual DSM settings ( user, folders,containers, datas, files,...)? Yes, i backupped all this on external drive but i won´t this all build new from scratch.

In my signature I described my hardware components:
Gigabyte GA-H270N-Wifi, 16GB, Pentium G4560
2x4GB WD, Fractal Node 304
DS920+

@ddosThanks for you help and patience with me.
I did your steps. But at step 5 at the step to chose "build number" I can´t see the 64561.
I am waiting a few days and try it then again. My DSM 7.1.1 U5 is working fine.
Perhaps other users can report about their way/method/steps for an succesful update.

@ddosThanks for your detailed description.
I think I´ll try your steps again and hope to get the option of selection 64561 too. Perhaps I did a mistake by recreating stick.
I formatted stick completely and deleted old partions. Then I completely recreated USB-Stick with arpl-Loader from @fbelavenuto, but I can´t chose the new dsm version in the menu. Perhaps I am to stupid, because i am not an IT-expert. Or it depends on my hardware (CPU Intel G4560).
I think it´s better for me to wait a few days until other users reports about their ways to update and how they managed it. For me it´s now not really necessary tu update, because my DSM 7.1.1 U5 is running ok at my hardware.

I'm actually not sure what to recommend in your case, for me I just recreated the bootloader and it just worked
Thanks for your answer. I need a secure way from DSM 7.1.1U5 to 7.2. I use bootloader arpl v1.1-beta 2a from fbelavenuto.
After recreating the same bootloader again with another usb-Stick I got not the option to chose 7.2-64561 in the menu. Did you get by recreation bootloader this option? Or did you manually upgrade to 7.2?

Then I misunderstood. I thought he used arpl v1.1-beta2a from fbelavenuto.
My "DS920+" uses this loader. Have i to wait for a new loader version or ist it possible to use another loader? I don´t want to create a new DSM from scratch. My 7.1.1 u5 is running fine has some containers. Sorry for my stupid question, but i am a noob.

I'm using ARPL https://github.com/fbelavenuto/arpl
I recreated the bootloader, very simple process and the upgrade was performed without a single issue
I recreated the bootloader now, but there is no option to chose the new build number (7.2-)64561. How did you manage it?
Or did you update DSM from 7.1.1 u5 to 7.2 manually?

No problem, just open an Incognito/InPrivate webbrowser and then run this command to get an authentication cookie.
https://IP-address-of-NAS:5001/webapi/auth.cgi?api=SYNO.API.Auth&version=3&method=login&account=ADMIN-USERNAME&passwd=ADMIN-PASSWORD&format=cookie
Expected respons {"success":true}
In same Incognito/InPrivate session, run the following commands to active each function.
Active Backup
https://IP-address-of-NAS:5001/webapi/entry.cgi?api=SYNO.ActiveBackup.Activation&method=set&version=1&activated=true&serial_number="DeviceSN"
Expected respons {"success":true}
Active Backup 365
https://IP-Address-of-NAS:5001/webapi/entry.cgi?api=SYNO.ActiveBackupOffice365&method=set_activation&version=1&serial_number="DeviceSN"
Expected respons {"success":true}
Active Backup Google G-Suite
https://IP-Adress-of-NAS:5001/webapi/entry.cgi?api=SYNO.ActiveBackupGSuite&method=set_activation&version=1&serial_number="DeviceSN"
Expected respons {"success":true}
Then you should have all functions activated, just make sure not to accidentally create new device serial number when upgrading as it will deactivate Active Backup suite.
