  1. Hey guys, its been awhile... I have been running this build for several months now without problem. but lately my Drive 8 have been crashing non-stop.
I have already Replace the drive with brand new ones many times (4 to be exact). and everytime I try to repair the Storagepool, It either crashes or say system partition failed. What else can I do? short of have to remount the whole thing, I got pretty much 10TB of data so far. would hate to loose all that!

edit: the version Im running is not the same as my signature, it is DSM 7.1-42661

I had a 2nd nic port that worked in dsm623 with jun104b loader, that I had to talk dirty to in order to make it work too! I had to install a modified driver for that 2nd nic because it was on the usb bus not the pci bus, but it worked in dsm6, not in dsm7. 🤪

The jmb575 sata card work, no switch but 5 ports. I dont know of any 8 port sata, that why I ordered the sas card. 8 sata ports, and the 3622 is supposed to work great with those since the real 3622 uses similar or same type of interface. You need a sas HBA IT MODE card, recommendations are Dell H200/H310, IBM 1015, LSI 9211 8i. These are all over ebay with cables for about $50 USD. Once flashed to it mode, they are all the same... there are other models with pci3.0 x8 if your mobo has that (it probably does), but unless your running ssd drives, pci2.0 x8 is enough for 8 spinning HDD.  The advantage to ahci sata is no additional drivers, but I dont know of 1 with 8 ports and no switch/multiplexer - that doesnt mean it doesnt exist, you'd have to research your choice of sata card and verify NO SWITCH

I need to do some research on this.

my MB only has 2 pci slots. It seems it would be cheaper for me to buy another MB with more slots, since I already have about 3 4port PCI cards laying around somewhere.

    Did you try and let it satamap for you? and fyi, peter suh made an auto script too you can execute from tc using wget https://github.com/PeterSuh-Q3/tinycore-redpill/raw/main/m.sh.gz; tar -zxvf m.sh.gz;

    yea,

sudo ./rploader.sh satamap now gives me 64/0004, it seems its reading the pci driver as a 4 port instead of 8

ill try peter suh's script right now

Sorry to hear that.... ok, lets assume your sata is ahci? so you shouldn't need drivers for that. I am also assuming your drives have data on them you want to save, and adding 4 more drives... so, when you rebuild, same serial and mac will not force any formatting or anything, it will be just like a power cycle.  What build (model) are you using? if you change that you will have to migrate from (for example) 918 to 3622 (or whatever), same model/serial/mac it wont.

The drive error is most likely the sata mapping, if you have the old user config or grub you already know what it was, so you can at least get back to where you were yesterday, then we can figure out how to add the other sata ports.

Dont worry! We will get you thru this!

This article explains how the sataport mapping works, reading this is detailed, and it helps.

    https://gugucomputing.wordpress.com/2018/11/11/experiment-on-sata_args-in-grub-cfg/

    thnks.

my biggest problem time was finding how to change the satamap setting. if you do it thru the loader by pressing 'e' , is not perssistent. if you do it by removing the usb stick and opening on the computer by editing the grub file, file gets corrupted, if you do it by rebuilding the loader, you got the infamous (drive 3,4.... disable error).

i know that my setting should be 68 / 0004.

my onboard sata on my H81 Motherboard, has port 3,4 as ghost drives, so I get port 1,2,5,6 as fisical drives, on the pci side I get my other 8 ports.

Did you try ./rploader.sh restoreloader now command? what exactly are you trying to restore? rebuilding usb loader is fairly easy which you already know. Keep same serial and mac and version and on reboot system will come back as normal.

/home/tc/old you will see your user_config.json (if you did backup command) which should have serial and mac

you can move with mv command or copy with cp command, obviously with from/to syntax ;)

Or if nothing else use winscp on windows or portx on mac then you get explorer gui and can move and copy with drag and drop

    this is what happened....

I got some new HDD (4TB IronWolfs x4) and switched my 4 PORT SATA PCI to a 8 PORT. to have a todal of 12 drives in my rig.

I tried to update the GRUB, but ended up updating the dam system with ./rploader.sh fullupgrade now...( iknow, i know... I wasnt paying attention)

so I lost the boot setting for the loader, so I tried taking the files manually from the backup folder and pasting on the home folder, only to see it being copied as TC and not ROOT user (I suck at WinSCP). so after changing every single file from tc to root... rploader.sh was not working anymore, I gave up and im trying to do everything from scratch again. and guess what...... error... drive 3,4 bla bla bla... is back, now I have to read all the posts back to see what is wrong.

I wrote down the procedures on how to do this, and I followed to the latter, but I believe something changed, because if I dont get the "Installation failed, file corrupted" error I get the  install loop error.

We really need a WIKI for this, Im willing to help making one!!!!

I think I found correct settings for my test build.

I have got in total 6 disks, (3 HDD and 3 SSDs)

2 HDDs I connected to SATA1 and SATA2 ports on my motherboard, (still I have two empty ports)

3 SSDs and 1 HDD I connected to my SAS controller.

    I edited grub.cfg file

    SataPortMap 48 and  DiskIdxMap 0005

and after reboot I can see that everything seems to be in order.

The only minor problem is with (I think) SAS cable, Each individual disk cable has got own label form P1-P4.
I am not quite sure why disk which is connected to P1 (I assume should be first) but is 3rd in my Storage Manager.
Instead Drive 5 - SK hynix SH920 (connected to P4) I would expect Samsung 860 Evo (connected to P1)

Similar situation is with Toshiba MQ001ABF050 and Crucial.

    Everything is swapped.
I am not quite sure if this is big deal, or maybe controller recognizes disks in own order rather than cable labels.

    Hello,

I downloaded and burn tinycore-redpill.v0.4.6 to my USB drive and boot it to my HP Microserver Gen 8 with 4 disks. However, I cannot make it work.

    Commands shown below.

    My questions:

    1. My system is using Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU G1610T @ 2.30GHz with 2GB RAM. Is the DS3615xsbromolow-7.0.1-42218 a good choice?
    2. There is no modules.alias.3.json.gz  modules.alias.4.json.gz  latestrploader.sh on my drive. Is it normal?
    3. There are SSL certificate problem: certificate is not yet valid errors. Are they expected?
    4. Do I need the pciid 8086d00001c02 and pciid 102bd00000533 extensions? If yes, how can I locate and include them?

    Many thanks!

Trying to build on another box (Older Dell Duo core) so my kids can play around with it, and I'm getting this same errors.

it seems the sites are down or a chance in the code on how to acess it?

    any help would be apreciated

ps: I have a sucessully installed and updated I7 machine running DS3266xs+ with DSM 7.1.

  8. hey, I was in the same boat as you, and this issue seems to be the boogie man, because every time someone asks about, it gets completly ignore...

This is how I solved my problem... it was so simple but people complicate it so much I almost gave up.

in my case I upgraded my 6.2.4 to Redpill tinycore loader 7.0.1. Ended up loosing all my files, but good thing I have backups.

after that I started from Scratch. Burned a new USB drive. did all the Instructed procedures, just to end up with the reboot/restore loop. was trying to install DS3617xs.

Then I tried DS3615xs and kept getting the drives errors (3,4 disable bla bla bla).

Finally decided to go with DS3622xs+ did all the instructed procedures. but.... and here is the simple thing....

when it was time to install the ext. the links I was trying was wrong.

In my case I need to install the r8125 ext for my NICGIGA NIC-2.5G.

if you (like me) follow the instruction, you are suppose to enter the command:

    sudo ./rploader.sh ext broadwellnk-7.0.1-42218 auto

    or

sudo ./rploader.sh ext broadwellnk-7.0.1-42218 add (and the link of the ext)

but if you go to https://github.com/pocopico/rp-ext and try to copy the ext link from there, you will get errors.

in my case i was trying:

    https://github.com/pocopico/rp-ext/tree/main/r8152

    or

    https://github.com/pocopico/rp-ext/blob/main/r8152/rpext-index.json

    or

    https://github.com/pocopico/4.4.180plus-broadwellnk/blob/main/r8125.ko

    etc....

none of them worked, what finally worked for me was to open the file at https://github.com/pocopico/rp-ext/blob/main/r8125/rpext-index.json and get the link from inside the file.

    sudo ./rploader.sh ext broadwellnk-7.0.1-42218 add https://raw.githubusercontent.com/pocopico/rp-ext/master/r8125/rpext-index.json

    image.thumb.png.41768072862fc223bdf35bfbee591ec3.png

after that I follow the rest of the instructions and it finally got all my NIC to work.

here is what I did from Start:

Broadwellnk - DS3622xs+    Intel Xeon D-1531    Six Core    12    Yes    Broadwellnk    DDR4 ECC SODIMM 16 GB

    sudo ./rploader.sh update now
    sudo ./rploader.sh serialgen DS3622xs+ now
    sudo ./rploader.sh satamap now
    sudo ./rploader.sh identifyusb now
    sudo ./rploader.sh ext broadwellnk-7.0.1-42218 auto
    sudo ./rploader.sh ext broadwellnk-7.0.1-42218 add https://raw.githubusercontent.com/pocopico/rp-ext/master/r8125/rpext-index.json
    sudo ./rploader.sh build broadwellnk-7.0.1-42218
    sudo ./rploader.sh backup now
    sudo reboot

Update to latest DSM. at first reboot. boot into TC Loader and run:

    sudo ./rploader.sh update now
    sudo ./rploader.sh backuploader now
    sudo ./rploader.sh download broadwellnk-7.0.1-42218
    sudo ./rploader.sh ext broadwellnk-7.0.1-42218 add https://github.com/jumkey/redpill-load/raw/develop/redpill-misc/rpext-index.json
    sudo ./rploader.sh postupdate broadwellnk-7.0.1-42218
    sudo reboot

Hope this helps you and anyone else having this problem. if you need more help, let me know which driver you are trying to install and ill try to help.

Hey guys, I took the day to try to make this work. Now that DSM 7 is updated to the latest version, maybe it will be easier. and I know there are other with the same problem.

    Here it goes:

I'm trying to make my 2nd NIC to work. either be the PCI 2.5GBe or USB 1Gbe.

It seems that both modules and Drivers are installed after following @pocopico instructions.

My USB NIC works on TinyCore menu, because it let me ssh into it if I umplug the onboard NIC cable. It is seen by DSM interface under Control panel > General, but is does not load as a LAN2.

My PCI NIC seems to be installed but it also does not load as LAN2, on this one, there is no light activity when CAT6 or CAT7 cables are connected to it. I tried different cable and got same results.

I tried adding the modules as instructed by @pocopico. but I might be doing something wrong. Im sure it is something simple that I just dont know the "howto" to make it work.

Can anyone help me out with this?

    here are some outputs:
