    File system max size with 6TB WD REDs?

    I just got here and I am warming up to the idea of setting a HP N54L with Xpenology. I have a few questions for you enthusiasts: Is this box compatible with the new 6TB WD REDs hard drives?. Will it go over 16TB of a single raid volume?. With 5 drives possible, a raid 5 could get (in teory) to 24TB, and to 18TB in raid 6. Would be awesome!. Has anyone done something similar?. Would it work?.

     

    I'm wondering the same too... would be great if we can! :cool:

    Fresh news about the issue coming from Synology forums:

    "Synology has finished analyzing the exploit and confirmed which versions of DSM are vulnerable. The vulnerability in question was patched out of DSM in December of 2013, so only servers running significantly out of date versions of DSM appear to be affected.

     

    In summary, DSM 5.0 is not vulnerable. Meanwhile DSM 4.x versions that predate the vulnerability fix – anything prior to 4.3-3827, 4.2.3243, or 4.0-2259 – are vulnerable to SynoLocker. For those systems that are running out of date DSM versions and have not been infected, then updating to the latest DSM version should close the hole.

     

    As for systems that have been infected, Synology is still suggesting that owners shut down the device and contact the company for direct support."

    So it seems the issues only affects non "updated" 4.x versions... :grin: good news

    Changement ventilo dans HP Proliant N54L

    Bonjour,

     

    Sur les conseils d'un autre acheteur d'HP Proliant N54L, j'ai voulu changer le ventilateur d'origine pour celui-ci: Coolink SWiF2-120P (http://goo.gl/sKHNLW)

     

    Je le connecte à la place (et exactement sur le même port) du ventilateur d'origine mais il ne fonctionne pas du tout.

    Je suis sur le point de le renvoyer à Amazon mais je me demande tout de même si je ne serai pas à l'origine de ce dysfonctionnement en le connectant mal/pas au bon endroit.

     

    Edit: je viens de lire ce commentaire sur Amazon:

     

    "pour remplacer le ventilateur du HP N54L, il faut par contre changer l'ordre des fils dans le connecteur et c'est compliqué de trouver le bon ordre !"

     

    L'un d'entre vous connaîtrait-il cet "ordre"? Les fils sortent-ils facilement du connecteur?

    SynoLocker Ransomware Affecting DSM 4.3-3810

    Hi everyone,

     

    It seems there's a workaround for this problem for "legacy" Synology NAS

     

    1. Shut down the NAS

    2. Remove all the hard drives from the NAS

    3. Find a spare hard drive that you will not mind wiping and insert it into the NAS

    4. Use Synology Assistant to find the NAS and install the latest DSM onto this spare hard drive (use the latest DSM_file.pat from Synology)

    5. When the DSM is fully running on this spare hard drive, shut down the NAS from the web management console.

    6. Remove the spare drive and insert ALL your original drives.

    7. Power up the NAS and wait patiently. If all goes well after about a minute you will hear a long beep and the NAS will come online.

    8. Use Synology Assistant to find the NAS. It should now be visible with the status "migratable".

    9. From Synology Assistant choose to install DSM to the NAS, use the same file you used in step 4 and specify the same name and IP address as it was before the crash.

    10. Because the NAS is recognized as "migratable", the DSM installation will NOT wipe out the data on either the system partition nor the data partition.

    11. After a few minutes, the installation will finish and you will be able to log in to your NAS with your original credentials.

     

    That means, in your case where you're running a non upgraded 4.3 version that you can definitively pass on Trantor's Beta 8 version, and then use local upgrades to go until the latest version (update 5 I think) ... just by flashing your USB startup key with latest you'll obtain the "migratable" state and being able to "reinstall" DSM without loosing data
