  1. The only time I was able to successfully activate SSD cache was against an iSCSI LUN (Block NOT file). The only problem I have then, is that iSCSI Block LUNs don't seem to work with ESXi 5.5 U1. When I try to configure the iSCSI adapter and target on ESXi it hangs the ESXi system, and the vmkwarning.log is full of iSCSI "wait abort" and "timeout" errors.

    Please,

    Can you explain how you enabled this config? Perhaps, we can try to debug differences about SSD cache for iSCSI LUNs and SSD cache for Volumes.

    My opinion is that the protection mechanism from Synology is blocking some funtions, and gnoboot/nanoboot developers needs to patch them.

    I hope soon iSCSI blockIO and SSD cache will be fixed.

  2. Hi,

    I'm trying to compile by myself a driver for 4482. However, in this guide: http://hallard.me/how-to-install-kernel ... 0-dsm-4-1/ the kernel is version "3.2.11" and the kernel for 4482 is "3.2.40". Where I can found the correct sources?

    Someone can help me? The developers of nanoboot are using the correct source code, right? Then, they can publish the tools to compile additional modules? Or they can full compile all modules and publish them in a repository?

    Please, help me!

    Thank you!

  3. Hi,

    I like to enable SSD cache with XPEnology DSM 5.x. It's seems that is not easy!

    My test environment:

    * VMware ESXi 5.5

    * Virtual machine with nanoboot 5.0.2.4

    * DSM 5.0 4482 stock

    Results:

    * With SCSI disks on the virtual machine, they can't be used for SSD ("synodisk --isssd" fails).

    * With IDE disks on the virtual machine, they are recognised as SSD (good!).

    * Config 1: 1xIDE disk (boot) + 2xSCSI (volume1) + 2xIDE disks (for SSD): After create the SSD Cache, the system goes slow. Logs (dmesg) shows errors writing (timeouts) to SCSI disks.

    * Config 2: 1xIDE disk (boot) + 1xIDE (volume1 degraded, removed a previous SCSI disk) + 2xIDE disks (for SSD): this config is because the limit of four IDE disks. Result: the kernel crash when flashcache is enabled and autoreboots... after that bootloop when system tries to mount volume1.

    Please, some of the developers of gnoboot or nanoboot: can you fix this? I feel the problem is some call not patched.

  4. With nanoboot:

    start wizard, create ssd cache (read/write or read-only, it's the same) for volume1, wizard finish, sdd cache were created, but volume1 crash.

    If I reboot, volume1 it's always crashed... to fix it I have to remove sdd-cache (volume1 become ok)

    I tried also on other hw, but wizard end without creating ssd-cache and volume1 it's still ok.

    Hi,

    Similar, but not equal, to me. I open a new thread related to this: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3251

    I hope we can found a solution/workaround!

  5. Hi,

    I like to open this thread because I don't found another one for ask/request/share about drivers for DSM 5.0 with nanoboot (or gnoboot).

    Please, someone can try to compile new drivers for the version 5.0 of DSM 5.0 (4482 or 4458)?

    At time, I need this: USB 3.0 Gigabit Ethernet based on AX88179.

    With DSM 5.0 USB 3.0 support is included by default, so I like to add a second Ethernet port using this cheap NIC. I test it with Linux, and works great.

    And, please, can you explain by only custom drivers are post in this forum for versions 4.x? I like to complete a system with a Microserver N54L with DSM 5.0. It's DSM 5.0 of XPEnology not realible?

    Thank you!
