I am missing the "hevc_enc", "vc1_dec","vc1_enc" here. /dev/dri does exist.

    /dev/dri$ ls
    card0  renderD128

Im also missing hevc_enc, but i do got some others. No hevc_enc, and thus no hw transcoding in plex for hevc. This is a bummer since half of my library is h265. Does anyone know more about this problem?

    cat /usr/syno/etc/codec/activation.conf

    {"success":true,"activated_codec":["hevc_dec","aac_dec","aac_enc","h264_dec","h264_enc","mpeg4part2_dec","ac3_dec","vc1_dec","vc1_enc"],"token":"x"}

@juliantje15  Only serial port can help if your network card is not recognized. Use the serial port with PUTTY.

If new install restart! If update a working xpenology then 2 way:

1- Easy way: restart the computer and check the message to see if there is Network card and IP...

2- use a admin account to log in and use "ifconfig" to check network card and IP. It is a linux machine...

I have a serial header connection, so if i want to use it i first have to buy a connector. Ill see if i can get my hands on one of those.

  3. I'm currently running DSM6.2.0 on my home-build server (Mobo: Gigabyte b360m-d3h, Proc: G5400T, Eth:  I219-V) with no problems using extra.lzma v0.5_test. However, it fails to update to 6.2.1 or 6.2.2 (cant find it in local network). I've tried using the original extra.lzma, v0.5_test and v0.6_test, and both are not working. When using v0.6_test i do notice that my network card is showing some activity, so i guess its related to another driver that's not working. Anyone have any idea on what i can try?

So looking at 59dine hardware with i5-7400 its HD 630 Graphics with PID 5912 also suported  since 4.5-4.7 and working with this I'm not sure that the problem is cooperating with this.

Hmm, thats strange, but good for him. I'm still trying to figure out what i can do to backport the driver, but since i'm busy with school I currently don't have so much time to look into it.

Main is HD 620 with vid 8086, pid 5916 supported since 4.5-4.7 :(

For test I downloaded to photo station mp4 4K hevc file and it's still making transcoding with 96 % CPU usage

I edited my post because i'm not 100% sure if this is the root problem of the /dev/dri not showing up. I created a new topic with the question if it is possible to backport a newer driver to 4.4 kernel.

  6. I've installed xpenology on a baremetal pc with the following specs:

    - Gigabyte B360M-D3H Motherboard

    - Intel Pentium G5400T Processor

The integrated graphics from this processor is the Intel UHD 610.

The vendor id is 8086 and the product id is 3e90, and according to this database it is supported since kernel 4.13.

    lkddb pci 8086 3e90 .... .... 03.... : CONFIG_DRM_I915 : drivers/gpu/drm/i915/i915_pci.c # in 4.13–4.20, 5.0, 5.1-rc+HEAD

Since the newest bootloader uses 4.4 i'm wondering if it's possible to backport the driver from 4.13 to 4.4.

    /dev/dri - doesn't exist

On Videostation only h.264 work, HEVC does not. On HEVC transcoding offline the same - operation failed ( nothing more just this )

I haven't yet tried transcoding HEVC on my nas so i don't know why that's not working.

What i also don't have is the /dev/dri folder, but i think that's because my igpu (UHD 610) is to new.

I make another installation using extra.lzma and serial from DS2419+, still the same:

cat /usr/syno/etc/codec/activation.conf: No such file or directory

Videostation - didn't start playing wideo

Transcoding offline - gives operation failed

Plex - HEVC 10bit Transcoding CPU 100 % no HW

I had the same issue, no activation.conf after installing video station. I tried installing photo station and uploaded a video to it. When it started converting the activation.conf appeared. If convertion failes, you should be able to see why it failed in the log.

It appears the difference is actually the CPU. I swapped out the i5-9600K and in the i3-8100, and changed nothing else, hw transcoding (QSV) started working.

given the fact that CPU turbo is not functional, the i3-8100 seems to be a pretty good choice.

So in short, 8th gen cpu's are capable of hw transcoding, but 9th gen not yet. I haven't heard anyone say that hw transcoding is working on their 9th gen coffee lake

Anyway of getting updated modules for intel e1000e and igb NIC for ds3617, dsm 6.1.x? While i can compile drivers using synology's source and toolchain. It still gives me the older dirver and i cant figure out how to "INJECT" new drivers into that build. Even though i have the source files for the drivers. i.e the "c files".

I'm wondering about the same thing. If that would be possible, it could fix alot of driver issues some people have.

  11. Loader version and type (918+):  1.04b DS918+

DSM version in use (including critical update):  DSM 6.2-23739

Using custom modules/ramdisk? If yes which one?:  Yes, driver extension 0.5 for 1.03a2

Hardware details:  Motherboard:  Gigabyte B360M-D3H; CPU: Intel Pentium G5400T; NIC: Intel i219-V

The Intel i219-V is only working with the additional driver extension, which i can't seem to get working on 6.2.1. I read somewhere that 6.2.1 breaks non official pcie devices, so i guess that will be the problem. Correct me if i'm wrong, but the only thing i don't get is that the i219-v uses e1000e, and i've seen people reporting that e1000e works on 6.2.1.

  12. Hello everyone!

I have a Gigabyte b360m-d3h with an Intel Pentium G5400T cpu. At first i couldn't get the ethernet port working (Intel i219-v), but with the extra.lzma provided at (https://xpenology.com/forum/topic/12859-driver-extension-jun-103a2dsm62x-for-ds918/) it worked using 1.04b and dsm 6.2 for DS918+. I couldn't not get 6.2.1 to work, and i read that it had something to do with non official pci devices that are not supported with that version.

I have a genuine s/n + mac, and software transcoding with video station and photo station is working.
At first, software transcoding didn't work, even after installing video station i still got the following message:
cat: /usr/syno/etc/codec/activation.conf: No such file or directory.

I had to install photo station, and try to convert a video, and after that it worked and gave the following: cat /usr/syno/etc/codec/activation.conf
    {"success":true,"activated_codec":["h264_dec","h264_enc","mpeg4part2_dec","hevc_dec","aac_dec","aac_enc"],"token":"123451234123"}

However, I can't get hardware transcoding to work. I dont have a /dev/dri folder, and both Plex and Video station are transcoding via software.
I guess I'll have to wait until the coffe lake 9th gen cpu's are supported?
