1.30 was the last release before all the spectre/meltdown stuff. bios' past this gave unpredictable results in Windows 10 and lowered performance.

nothing is wrong with 6.1.
but alpha or beta does not mean anything here -> there is never a loader that is labeled STABLE
as I remember 1.02a2 was used long time before 1.02b came out
I am using j3455 board so ds918+ would suit best to my system. and there is a new kernel in 6.2 on ds918+

today I tried a upgrade of the hardware from my productive system, but with another disk with an 6.1.x testinstallation.
the installation succeeded, but there was a kernel panic during install. after a manual reboot the system was ready and working!
my hardware is:
HW: ASROCK J3455-ITX, 8GB RAM Crucial
SW: dsm 6.1.x ds916+ image 1.02b loader
it seems that all hardware is working, also an the onboard realtek nic
my question is, is the loader 1.03a2 ready for production system? what about that kernel panic, does it matter?

when you don't have an ethernet cable you can buy a wifi router and make it a wlan client and connect cable to your nas.
or you can buy ethernet over power line adapter.

i cannot answer your main question, but i have some workarounds for you:
you can also use synology assistent program
or you can go to your router webinterface and have a look at the dhcp leases there.

it runs on almost every cpu, intel cpus worked most of the time.
try it out, or try to search if anyone testet already.

Your nas is not faster with newer usb stick, so there is no reason at all for a change.
The usb stick boots the loader.
When you want to try other stick, check vid and pid of the stick an adjust the config.
Then it should work. Reinstall is not necessary.

I think i will leave out this update since my xpenology boxes are all on LAN not wireless.
Does anyone use xpenology over wireless?
BTW: synology is really fast deploying updates! the enterprise wireless in my company has not got the KRACK update yet^^

get a new usb stick, download loader for 916, put it on the stick, edit the cfg!
boot with the stick an choose migrate when asked (or make a test install on another hard diks)
you can test new loader with the new usb stick. in case its not working you can change back to old stick
ONCE YOU HAVE MIGRATED the data on your productive disk a downgrade is not possible the same way!

Ich versuche seit einigen Stunden Redpill 0.8 / DSM 7.1 42661auf meiner alten NAS Hardware zum Laufen zu bringen.
Was leider nicht funktioniert "Something went wrong, We have detected errors on the hard drives (3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 13, 14, 15), and the SATA ports have also been disabled. Please shut down your DS918+ to replace or remove the hard drives and try again"
wenn ich das gleiche mache aber mit DSM7.0.1 42218, dann bekomme ich ein lauffähiges System.
Warum funktioniert das mit DSM7.1 42661 nicht
