Hello ! I have the same problem. Managed to solve it in the meantime ? Could anyone help ?

Have you attempted to convert it on the ESXi machine via the SSH shell with the following, vmkfstools -i arpl-dyn.vmdk MyNewNAS-TCRP.vmdk

Or just use the flat files, both are needed, arpl.vmdk and arpl-flat.vmdk.

  2. I'm on ESXi 6.0, HP microserver gen7.

I used the menu to upgrade to 2.3, reboot and changed the boot drive from SCSI to IDE. Then I added a new SCSI 1GB virtual drive to test but web installer tells me that no drive is found. What should I do to get drives recognized?

    Thanks.

Esxi portion of 2.3 which address this issue has not been released yet.

Thanks for the heads up. Don't stress it over Christmas, enjoy the holidays.

  3. I still have an issue in the XPEnology Configuration Tool.

I could connect through ssh, but when I tap 1 to go to Quick setup I have this message: XPEnology Configuration Tool cannot continue. No boot disk detected.

What does it mean? Do I need a second usb stick to install DSM?

    Thanks for your help!

Here is what I can see when I list the drives:

    Disk /dev/sda: 3001GB
    Disk /dev/sdb: 3001GB
    Disk /dev/sdc: 3001GB
    Disk /dev/sdd: 2000GB
    Disk /dev/sdu: 4052MB

XPEnology can see 5 drives connected to this system.

    No boot disk was detected.

/dev/sdu is my usb stick that I flashed with XPEnology-DSM-6.0.2-8451.5-quicknick-boot-v2.2. I want to use it as my boot disk. Is it possible?

Did you update the Configuration tool first? I found I got this error if I did that. Also did you set the VID/PID of your USB stick?

  4. Maybe it's something different about ESXi v6. I havent tried that version yet.

Provided you haven't upgraded your VM's to what ever the latest hardware version is for v6, (I'm assuming it's v11), you should be able to install ESXi v5.5 and import the existing VM's. I would use a new USB stick and if it fails you can just reboot from your existing v6 ESXi USB drive.

  5. I have tried many different configurations but nothing is working. I have a feeling that the HP Microserver G8's RAID card doesn't support local RDM...this entry level server seems to have many caveats to its features!

Can anyone help?? Many thanks in advance!

I'm guessing you haven't tried setting the BIOS to use AHCI?

I have the Gen8 and currently using 4 x 500GB via RDM, having first set the controller to AHCI.

  6. The web server appears to be running;

This is what I get from http://diskstationip

    Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, admin and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

    From http://diskstationip:500 I get;

Sorry, the page you are looking for is not found.

  7. I don't seem to be able to get plex to start on my box at the moment, (the package shows as started, but it is not running correctly, there is no web interface etc).

If I SSH in and cd to "/var/packages/Plex Media Server/scripts" ......

I have stopped the service in package manager, and the start_stop_status script confirms this:

    /var/packages/Plex Media Server/scripts # ./start-stop-status status
    Plex is not running

However when I try to start plex I get a LOT of errors:

    /var/packages/Plex Media Server/scripts # ./start-stop-status start
    Starting Plex ...
/volume1/@appstore/Plex Media Server/Resources/rsync: error while loading shared libraries: libiconv.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
/volume1/@appstore/Plex Media Server/Resources/rsync: error while loading shared libraries: libiconv.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
/volume1/@appstore/Plex Media Server/Resources/rsync: error while loading shared libraries: libiconv.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
/volume1/@appstore/Plex Media Server/Resources/rsync: error while loading shared libraries: libiconv.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
/volume1/@appstore/Plex Media Server/Resources/rsync: error while loading shared libraries: libiconv.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I have truncated this for readability as there are a fair few of these messages!

A status check will then show plex as running, but needless to say it does not 'appear' to be running (no web interface etc).

    /var/packages/Plex Media Server/scripts # ./start-stop-status status
    Plex is running

Any ideas as to what is happening here?

    Thanks

    EDIT

Also looking in the plex log, (via package manager), it shows a long list of trying to install plug-ins, and errors in the form of:

error - system returned error, errno=10

I've seen mention various issues with permissions during upgrades, have you checked all is OK in this area?

  8. Just updated from 5.0-4493u7 to 5.0-4525 on my HP N54L (bare metal).

I downloaded boot image from xpenology.nl (thanks btw), edited the .lst files (sn, vid and pid so I have a custom SN and my usb thumb drive doesn't show up in DSM) like the previous installation.

Selected upgrade on nanoboot menu, launched Synology assistant, choose to migrate, used the DS3612xs 4528 pat file and that's all

Worked for me, thanks. Bit of a scary moment when it said it had failed, but rebooted itself and eventually came online

  9. can I exchange the usb with another usb with a fresh 5,0,3,1 and try ?

or can I install a fresh install of the 5.0.3.1 and a fresh install of pat file?

I've done a few re-installs of the VM as using ESXi and not lost any data yet, appears to recognise the fact that the volumes are already synology disks, but YMMV.

  10. Just started to use it with 2 HikVision cameras. Works fairly well on local LAN, even over wi-fi. In fact prefer it over BlueIris which gets recommended a lot. If you enable web station you can go directly to Surveillance station.

From my limited experience so far would suggest it is fairly limited compared to the likes of BlueIris but it really depends on your requirements. For monitoring and recording it does the job.

Not sure about hooking up a monitor directly to the NAS box. But like I say I use mine via laptop over wi-fi.

  11. Still very much a n00b to all this. Only discovered XPEnology a week or two ago, (boy I wish I'd found it before trying OMV), and the learning curve has been steep. Managed to get alpha7 working in ESXi on my N40L but disapointed to find it didn't like SCSI interface so DSM a no go.

Admit to being overly confused right now with updating the zImage. Been holding out for a complete new image to try so hopefully will be lucky enough to receive the password for alpha10.
