  1. Hi, I updated the SN/MAC with legitimate SN from my old machine but I am still not able to get the video and all.

Other than putting the SN/MAC on usb stick file, is there anything else I needed to do ? How  did you make it work ? Is quickconnect working for you as well ?

BTW I used SN/MAC from my DS218 that I am not running any more. Would that be a problem ?

  2. Got it. I understand the need for protection but I keep my NAS in the basement and being able to access the grub.cfg remotely would have been very helpful...

Also I am using an AMD motherboard, I had selected AMD version in the bootloader but after installation it in the info I see INTEL Core i3-4130, is this normal ?

    Hi,

Just upgraded from 5.2 to 6.0.2 using Jun's boot loader. Now I don't see the USB drive automounted as it used to with old bootloader. Does anyone know how to access the files on USB or how can I mount the usb on system ??

The usb boot drive SHOULD not be mounted. It's a boot drive not a storage device. It's hidden to avoid it being edited by user while DSM is running. Should you need to edit the content of the grub.cfg file in the loader then do it on a separate machine or with another OS running. See my signature. I made a tutorial and mention how to mount the image. If you have windows 10 running then simply plugging the usb drive should mount it.

  3. Hi Guys,

Hate to ask you guys a dumb question..............

Once you click on the link above, it will display an excel file.

How on earth, do I need to do, to get the serial generator working.

I tried changing model no. but couldn't. So, how does it works? :???:

    Thank you.

Save and open the excel file on your pc, select the model # DS3615xs....hit F9 to generate random serial nos..Mac # will be associated with that serial # as well.

  4. I would like to know this too. I tried using the combination of random serial # and MAC address generated by excel sheet but wasn't able to use quickconnect. I always get error while trying to register. Has it worked for anyone on DSM 5.2.

Nice. I'll test it. Thank you.

So? Did it worked for you?

  5. Hi, I am running DSM 5.0-4528 Update 2/Nanoboot. I just updated my cloud sync app after I saw an available update for the app. After the update all the accounts/syncs I had created before are gone. I can still see the folders with the contents that were synced previously but now that accts are deleted, I'll have to create syns/accounts again and will have to start from scratch I guess.

Just wanted to warn all users who are looking at this update.

    Tx.

  6. Similar thing occurred to me and I took the plunge and upgraded the DSM from 4498 to 4528. While upgrading on synology assistant status was "configuration lost" during the installation it went right for the installation without giving any option for migrate or what so ever. After installation was finished I was able to see all the files and folders. No data loss at all. Just wanted to give a heads up .

  7. I had asked you this question on another thread but didn't get a chance yet to upgrade. Now that there is a newer version of nanoboot, I would like to ask and confirm if I can use your steps to upgrade directly from Trantor 4.3 3810 ?? I hope migration will work on that as well. Is it safe to do so ?? Also which pat file do I need to download for this...

    Tx.

    1. Create a new USB stick with nanoboot 5.0.3.1 (you can use Rufus to write the ISO to the flash)

    2. Download the latest .pat from Synology for your type of machine

    3. Re-Boot from the new nanoboot USB flash

    4. Select from the boot list Upgrade

    5. Navigate to http//yournasip:5000 and follow the on-screen wizard but at a certain point use the MIGRATE MY FILES from the wizard. If you don't know he nas's IP address just use Synology Assistant to find it.

After a successful migration, just use the update menu from DSM's Control Panel to update to Update 2

    6. Good luck!

  8. Can you please post instructions or how to for migrating from DSM 4.3-3810 (trantor) to nanoboot 5.0.2.4 (DSM 5.0-4482). I had found instructions for gnoboot somewhere but couldn't find anything for nanoboot...if there is a post, can you please direct me to that...thanks.

Just migrated from DSM 4.3-3810 (trantor) to nanoboot 5.0.2.4 (DSM 5.0-4482). Data is OK, seems like everything working fine, most settings are ok, but users rights have been lost, manually have to set it again. backup configuration before migration and restoring it after migration - not working, dsm 5 does not accept dss-file, hello to Synology .

Thanks to everybody, who have participated in active discussion here

p.s. would be nice if Synology has users rights setup on one single screen, as a rights table, users are on the rows, folders are on the columns (or opposite), hello to Synology one more time

  9. I also noticed this....My disks are not hibernating anymore...Although they used to hibernate perfectly but I don't think this is an issue with 4.3...Hibernation was working well on 4.3 before I made some config changes and now I can't figure out why is it not working now....

  10. +1 Worked for me too. Thanks

Use this from task scheduler, manual run after download update, then update.

    sed 's/flashupdateDeb/flashupdateDeb1/' /autoupd@te.info > /autoupd@te.info1
    mv /autoupd@te.info1 /autoupd@te.info

    It works, thank you!

  11. Changing the serial/MAC and the SSH config does the trick.

Thank you for your help neonflx and DHD!

Hey, Thanks for this thread...I was also trying to find out a solution for this...I changed the serial # and Mac Address, However I am still getting SSH logs like this -

Now I suspect it is coming because of my dyndns....I am using dyndns and NO-IP....Any thoughts ? Is your problem completely solved ?? I still have to see if I get any msgs on my DSFinder....

Update :: Take my words back for now...As I haven't seen any such activity since yesterday...I'll keep an eye and will report further...Tx

  12. I tired that...using manual update and trying to upload .pat file from Trantor's 4.3 build....it fails and generates error code 21...

I am still just testing xpenology adn trying to build a setup.......while keeping my existing NAS intact...

One thing I didn't catch how some people achieved the upgrade from 4.2 keeping their data safe as I I don't see any option for upgrades...only way I see is to reformat and install 4.3 on hard drive connected to Sata 0 port...Am I missing something here ?? Though I plan to use a small SSD for Xpeno OS only....but I would still like to know how people have upgraded from 4.2 to 4,3 while keeping their data...Thanks.

    this on a

do i dare try an in place upgrade of your 4.2 ds3612xs build?
  13. Thanks this info is useful..I appreciate that.

    Hi,

I am new to Xpenology and am still in a phase where I am trying this build on test machine. However I couldn't figure out why exactly do we need this ?? In general Trantor's 4.2 is running fine on my network and no issues so far. Why do we need to change the MAC addr.....Could you please explain a little bit. I couldn't find an answer in the original forum either....Sorry for my ignorance....

    Thanks

While it is true that 4.2 works fine on a network in a single instance, but the problem is when you want multiple devices on the same network, or want to use a Synology service (e.g. DDNS). For the former, you need different MAC addresses, otherwise your devices will not be recognized (well, one will be, but all the others won't). Latter is if you want a custom serial number, to register at Synology.

This means, you don't need it. But for example, I'd like to be able to modify my serial number and MAC address, just in case.

On the download page there is a very useful utility "IMG MAC Editor 2"

It allows you to modify MAC and SN directly in the image, before its written to USB Flash disk.

With help of my Chinese friend here is the translation:

    Simple and useful.
