i am using small ssd disk as a primary datastore containing VM images.
i used XPEnology wmdk.
esxi is booting from smallest sd card i found in my shuffle.
instead of using HW RAID i prefer RDM mapping for each single hdd.

In ESXi actual setup, bootloader file XPEnoboot_DS3615xs_5.2-5644.4.vmdk is used as boot disk. (probably with value Virtual Device Node - IDE (0:0)).
The goal is replace this disk with new boot loader XPEnoboot_DS3615xs_5.2-5644.5.vmdk.

Tried on my similare HW : HP ProLiant G7 MicroServer N40L.
Seems its working.
Can u check info from //Control Panel / Info Center / Storage?

Updated from control panel, Without any issues. No reboot.

It's simple and easy as 1-2-3.
- Just download new vmdk bootloader file.
- Upload them into right datastore folder.
- And replace boot disk in virtual machine settings.
More complex view on same problem
