https://www.synology.com/en-uk/beta/DSM61RC/ReleaseNotes
I was taking a look at the 6.1RC version of DSM and noticed something strange in the downlaods area. There is a PAT file for "VirtualDSM" . Does this have anything to do with what we do here on Xpenology? Did they create a universal PAT file for VMs? I guess this is wishful thinking but who knows. Any ideas?
It's to have an synology VM within synology I guess

DSM6 brought the ability to create virtual DSM servers within a single Synology server in order to share a device between users.
Nothing to do with XPEnology.
Unless you want to run multiple DSM servers under one install.

So you can only run DSM in that no other operating systems?

Good spot. That's interesting!
Also happy to donate to quicknick or help if I can. If everyone just donated a couple of £/€/$ I'm sure it will all go a little way to show our appreciation.

Cool, do you have your drives in a SHR? For some reason I don't get the option, tried lots of options in VMware and different types of drives etc.
Did you try the instructions in this post? It works for me!
Thanks I'll give it a go. I only have it in a VM at the moment I assume it will still work in that scenario?

Guys,
All my Nases are currently sitting on Jun loader 1.01 update 7 and running just fine with Btrfs without a glitch.
If you really need your nas now, go ahead and install it with Jun's then enjoy your holidays as I've been doing.
Trust me, the more time we're waiting the more stable the new release is. Therefore, do not push Quicknick he also needs holidays, IMHO. [emoji38]
I'll be back and check this topic sometime next year. Meanwhile, just enjoy the rest days of the year.
HAPPY NEW YEAR, everyone!
Thank you all and see you guys next year.

Also thanks Quicknick for your hard work.
Can't get btrfs to work with shr. But I read in previous post that it would be fixed in 2.3 . Just waiting patiently.

Oh right, I am trying Jun's loader with ext4 not btrfs, so SHR should work shouldn't it?

Exactly. It didn't lose power at all. I just rebooted from within DSM. I also tested it (after building the cache a bit) with a proper shutdown and powered it back on and it still cleared it.
I assume then this isn't supposed to happen?
Tested it with XPEnoboot 5.2-5592.2 and 5.2-5644.4.

Hi,
Is it normal for read only SSD cache to reset / go back to zero after a reboot?
Seems to happen whatever version of XPEnoboot I use... DSM is 5.2 5592 Update 4.
Hardware is HP MicroServer Gen8.
Any fix for this?
Thanks

Is read only SSD cache supported to reset / go back to zero after a reboot?
Sorry to jump on your thread but trying to figure this out and can't find any mention of it.

Anyone tried DIP Nr. 2?
My board is removed for cpu upgrade and I've seen this maintenance dips.
See the attached screenshot.

Link don't work for me

Well it means if you set the drives to AHCI they go back to the B120i and the time and date is reset and all other settings boot options etc! Annoying.
-
Ok this is interesting. Something must be different.
What version of DSM and what version of xpenology you running?
And you definitely don't get the message just before it boots the USB key for xpenology that says something like system running with default settings?
-
I'd be very surprised if it doesn't reset the bios for you
-
Can´t confirm the BIOS resets every reboot.
Depends on the BIOS setting you use. I´ll make some screens when i´m back home.
I also boot my HP MS Gen8 every day via ACPI at 8am automatically. Shutdown at 0:30am. (Advanced Powermanager.spk)
Do you run xpenology on it?
-
It's so annoying does the memory test every boot as well because of this.
Almost as annoying as the beep when it boots. It's the loudest beep known to man lol!
-
Is there no fix for this apart from the workaround of configuring everything correctly in the BIOS, then saving those settings as the default ?

Is it possible to install this in a VirtualBox VM running on my baremetal Gen8 Xpenology 5.2 ?
Just for testing of course.
Thanks
