  1. Just finished my migration from 5.2 to 6.0.2 using Jun 1.01 with minimal grub changes and it went smooth as silk. I spent about 3 days in preparation making backups and the upgrade took like 5 mins and the only issue I had was my NIC IP address had changed lol. I also downloaded and applied the update 2 for it and that had 0 issues. I did have to upgrade some packages that I had installed, but all of there configurations seems intact, along with my shares and settings.

    My Specs for reference

    P8Z68-V/GEN3 Motherboard

    i7-2600k CPU @ 3.4Ghz

    16GB RAM

    2 x PERC H310 crossflashed to LSI-9211-8i IT Mode

    7 x WD Red 3TB

All in a Rosewill 4U 15 bay chassis.

Thanks to everyone that has contributed there hard work here!

Jun, Trantor, Arcao, QuickNick, CtrlAltDel, Polanskiman and anyone else that I may have missed.

  2. Hi there,

I'd like to know if the nforce 4 ethernet drivers are included in the new bootloader?

Since they have never been listed, I am gonna take a WILD guess and say no lol.

  3. For the drivers eveloppers :

With version 6 loader's i have found no many drivers.

    I have only 71 and before with old version 5.2 -5967 y have 481 + 189 for DVB/Ttuner TV .

Can you compile the drivers with all as before ?

    Does your device work?

  4. I migrated and it is working ok

    Thanks!

You are getting me super hyped bro haha! I have a new 1U rack case for my pfsense firewall coming on Tue, so when I make that migration, I may do my Xpenology box as well. Let me know if you run into any weird issues or the such, would love a heads up if you make any discoveries.

  5. what parameters to use with an LSI 9211-8i HBA 8 hd attached to it.

I'm only able to see 6 hd available to install, once I installed it I was able to see that the additional 2 hd are been counted as ext hd,

how can i make it see the 8 hd attached to the 9211-8i during install

I disabled the onboard Sata and now I'm able to see all 8 hd connected to the 9211-8i, I would like to enable the onboard Sata to attached to SSds for cache, any suggestions?

    thanks

Good to hear the 9211-8i is working properly now, I have 2 of those in my system and have been waiting for proper support to look into it further. Did you try to migrate data, or just do a fresh install?

  6. Have it working, but my SLI 9211 is not working, so no passthrough.

Is there any way to have it working?

There are several of us waiting for this functionality to get baked in, I am sure it will come soon!

Until then, keep coming back and reading daily, that's what I do.

  7. I have been able to mount the raid volume on a ubuntu live cd but I can't access system files all I see is my data/shared folders. Help would be appreciated.

Literally the first link in Google results. I have used this method to recovery data before and it was really a life saver.

    https://www.synology.com/en-us/knowledg ... using_a_PC

    Google is your friend bro.

    EDIT:

Look at me being all mouthy without reading the fine details lol. I do not believe I have ever had to gain access to the system partition during recovery, what exactly do you need to recover from the system and not your arrays shared data?

This looked interesting, but I did not read far into it.

  8. My guess is that it is not loading the proper drivers for one of the controllers, have you tried checking the logs and inspecting the loaded hardware from the CLI on the box? I would putty in and start digging around and see.

  9. Has anyone been able to get LSI 2308 IT mode controller working in ESXI pass through mode? My disks are detected in xpenology but not the latest bootloader.

I do not believe we have any IT mode support yet, I am waiting to test out Dell PERC H310 crossflashed to an LSI 9211 IT myself.

Do have sombody this working on a arock q1900?

I believe I have seen people with this system working, READ THE THREAD it's not that long...

Ok, Just did the update to update 2, went fine, the only issue I have is the Server not shutting down properly and the error reporting it after the reboot.

Anyone found a fix for that yet?

There is a fix for this a few pages back, READ THE THREAD!

    Hello everyone,

I have been waiting a long time for DSM6. I check from time to time on this forum to see if there is any progress. To my surprise I saw that there is a working version. I would like to ask a few questions:

    1. Is this a stable version to use on bare metal (running DSM 5.2 on a Asrock Q2900-itx)?

    2. Is it possible to migrate from my current version 5.2-5644 Update 3?

    3. Has somebody already made a complete tutorial (is not and the questions above are both yes then I wouldn’t mind to make one for everybody)?

Thank you in advance for the answers and keep up the good work.

    Cheers

    Burner1977

Only time will tell if its stable, but so far reports are showing its working fantastic for people. All of your questions are answered in this thread, and as far as a tutorial, there is the first post and well the rest of the posts that have the answers to ALL of your questions.

Hey!first post, new to xpenology, and i just had setup dsm 6 with 6 by 4tb hard disks system with Jun's loader!

wow man! thank you and all the other guys who keep the project alive!

if i was able to setup the system with no experience just by reading the thread and correcting errors like the ramdisk change the shutdown alert and quickconnect...

seems stable, so i wonder when we will see a proper thread

great job JUN and guys! thanks once again

    /wave

This work is phenomenal and I am greatful someone took the time to make it! A proper thread? I do not think it gets any more proper then this lol.

  10. There is like a full page of people that are asking questions that are answered in the thread. I opened a Notepad++ document and read through this ENTIRE thread and took notes so I would have all of the information I need. It also helped me learn a lot about this new process, I suggest the rest of you guys that are just coming in to do the same, your data may thank you later.

  11. I love popping into fantastic news and really looking forward to testing this out on my system.

    My current specs are;

    P8Z68-V/GEN3 Motherboard

    i7-2600k CPU @ 3.4Ghz

    16GB RAM

    2 x PERC H310 crossflashed to LSI-9211-8i IT Mode

    7 x WD Red 3TB

All in a Rosewill 4U 15 bay chassis.

Congratulations on the great work, I will be here on the edge of my F5 key haha.

  12. Created a page which lists all known package source + their packages

    https://xpenology.us/package-sources

    Good list!

but... from all of them, only https://synocommunity.com/packages is the true winner

SynoCommunity is pretty cool but there is some fragmentation that gets annoying. For example, the Sonarr package allows you to update the program right inside of Sonarr, but if I try to do the same thing with NZBGet it says it does not support upgrading unless I obtain a new package. So I cannot get NZBGet 17.1 on my Synology currently.

  13. I currently have 2 x N54L with 4 drives in each server, both running separate instances of Xpenology without issue. I have repurposed an i7-2600k system and purchased an H310 card and have a Rosewill server chassis on the way here. Everything is setup on the bench with some throw away extra HDs I had lying around and works great!

My questions is, I want to take the HDs out of both of the N54Ls and move them into the new Xpenology server, as seperate arrays obviously and be able to migrate and retain my data? I have done this with single arrays without any problems, but with 2 seperate ones and the Xpenology OS installed on both, I was not sure how I could migrate it all over without incident.

    Thanks!

  14. Just wanted to report my experiences with the C2550D4I.

    My system:

    - ASRock C2550D4I with 4x1GB DDR3 ECC RAM

    - Silverstone DS380

    - Hard drives: 3x8TB, 2x3TB, 3x2TB (8x8TB soon) on all the internal SATA3 controllers

    - XPEnoboot 5.1-5055

    BIOS Config:

    - Advanced > Super IO Configuration > Serial Port 1 Configuration > Serial Port (Disabled)

    - Advanced > Super IO Configuration > SOL Configuration > Serial port (Disabled)

    - Intel RC Setup > South Bridge Chipset Configuration > SATA 3 Configuration > SATA Mode Selection = IDE

    What works:

1, All SATA controllers, so it is possible to have 12 hard drives connected.

    2. Both Intel LAN ports.

    What doesn't work:

    1. Wake on LAN.

I also tested with XPEnoboot 5.2-5592 before reverting to 5.1-5055. Here are my experiences with it.

    What works:

    1. All the SATA3 controllers, so it is possible to have 8 hard drives connected.

    2. Both Intel LAN ports.

    What doesn't work:

    1. The SATA2 controllers, so you will lose the ability to connect 4 hard drives.

    Things I have not tried:

    1. iSCSI

    2. Installing or using packages

    3. SSD cache

    4. Hot spare

    5. Changing serial number and LAN MAC addresses

I hope this helps others looking to use this motherboard. Also, I wanted to pass along a huge THANKS to the debs who make XPEnology.

This is great info, I currently have 2x HP N54L Micro Servers both running xpenology with 4 drives each and I have been wanting to upgrade, as well as consolidate the arrays. I was looking at the Asrock c2550 with the Silverstone ds380 exactly! This is all part of my grand plan to implement PFSense here as well haha.

Thank you so much for posting this!

  15. Hi gnoboot,

Thank you very much!! I have tried to use the gnoboot-alpha 10.4, I can install my TV usb...

Hi, I have just updated my DSM from 4.3-3810 to 5.0-4438 using gnoboot-alpha 10.5 in my N54l . I then plugged in my Contex DTV-01 USB stick (with "LGS8GL5" chipset) but the device manager can't detect the USB stick (It can be detected while I was using DSM 4.3-3810). Can anyone help me with this issue?

How did you go about upgrading your N54L and were you able to retain the data?

I am guessing that I would need to get the new DSM 5 with the 10.5 gnoboot (been reading all kinds of nonsense about passwords and difficulty in obtaining it) and shut down my N54L and take out the USB flash it with the new DSM 5 with gnoboot 10.5 and then turn it back up and finish the upgrade by pointing the assistant to the new pat file or whatever?

I was all gungho on getting my synology box upgraded, but after just readng Plex isnt working, that is not going to work for me lol.

  16. I don't know if this has already been answered, I think I have searched wide and far, but maybe not enough, if that is the case I am sorry...

    And I have a HP Microserver N36L

However, I have Xpenology installed 5.4458 and with Gnoboot. (otherwise no modifications, I started out with the trantor 3810 and upgraded to 5beta and then to 4458)

When I look in my router it says I have 1Gbit speed, so does the Xpenology in it's settings, but I max out at 11-12 Mbytes copy speed in my network (which is somewhat a maxed out 100Mbit connection I guess)

Anyone have a clue as to how I can get 1Gbit speed on my unit? (All of my network is 1Gbit, all switches, router, etc.)

I have an N54L running the newest 4.3 and was wondering which DSM 5 you used to upgrade your NAS and was there any issues with data loss? I am really interested in upgrading, but don't want to bork my system.

    Thanks!

  17. When I asked about an equivalent to the "Reset" button on an official Synology NAS, I was told that re-flashing the USB stick to a clean install would effectively reset your installation without affecting data. I never needed to try it but it might be worth a try.

Thanks for the tip man, I might try that next.

Since I posted I had powered down my N54L and disconnected the USB for the OS and hooked up a cdrom to the esata port. Then on my desktop I downloaded an Ubuntu cd so I could boot to a desktop to follow the recovery directions here.

    http://www.synology.com/support/faq_sho ... u&q_id=579

And I have been able to get it to boot with the CD and mount the array without an issue. I can see the addon packages and my entire filesystem (YAY) so at least for now I can recovery thru there if necessary.

I think I am going to give your reimage technique a try and see if I can get back to synology without losing any data, I saw on some other posts where they were talking about the Synology Assistant not having the red text, and as long as it didn't have the red text it should be ok? I would hate to try to recovery with flashing the image to end up losing my data now that I can access it, but at the same time I got a few TBs of stuff and not a convenient place to put it in the meantime.

    UPDATE;

I have been looking around the array and the USB device and it appears that there is the main OS of DSM hiding somewhere in the Array. My Ubuntu shows a second array supposedly, that it cannot load because of missing components or something, but it has the Array with all my stuff and the @appstore and what not directories intact.

I was thinking about reflashing the image, but if it is read only to begin with and I know its not corrupt, because I broke the NAS  then how would that facilitate resetting it? I was hoping I might be able to access the DSM install and still work on replacing those ko files I wiped out in /lib/modules/. Now I am starting to think I might be able to boot the NAS with the HDs disconnected and then connect them once it starts to boot and the USB wont find the install so it will default? But then I still have to worry about losing my data hmmm.

  18. I have this running on my N54L and I messed up and deleted everything out of /lib/modules/ trying to fix some iptables kernel module stuff and was wondering if there is a way to default the DSM install without losing my array / data? My box is still running, but I am afraid if I reboot it, its not gonna come back online

    Thanks in advance!!

    UPDATE;

Now I really screwed it up, I found a tar with the 4.2 modules that was suppose to be for 4.2.3202, I downloaded them, extracted them into /lib/modules/ and now my N54L is booting up, but after a min at the prompt, it auto shuts down. Not sure where to go from here to avoid losing all my data.
