Hi Jokies,
I follow your instruction and download the Update file first and this time I successfully executed the 2 shell commands using Putty. However after the download was completed, I went back to DSM GUI and click the Update button, the update process went about 80% then stop and gave me a message "There is a temporary directory access error (2) during update". Any idea why?
Thanks
Lastest DSM update enhanced hack detection and won't apply on a XPenlogy.

Any debug message or log?

I once got this problem but when the system is connected to Internet the problem is gone.
-
Synology started to block XPEnology out of their cloud services.
Meanwhile by activating them, you already leaked your build version, IP address, ports opened and many other information, Synology can now get into your box whenever you're connected to Internet.
-
Hi, you may want to take a look at Synology official guide about migrating existing DSM hard drives to other models.
-
VPN created issues to me also. I had it removed.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
A specific version of VPN Server or all versions?
Does it also affect DSM 4.3 or previous DSM 5.0 versions of XPEnology?

Thank you for your information.
Gnoboot 10.5 issues can be reported to gnoboot by visiting gnoboot.me, I think he will be happy to see your feedback.
Debug message from both console and Xenserver syslog may also help so please include them.

How to make?
Where is the guide?
Mount the vmdk file and if you're running windows, use image writer to write the new gnoboot *.img to the disk. If you're using Linux, use dd command to get it done.

Bromolow is Intel Sandy Bridge + Cougar Point
Cedarview is Atom, the old series.
Avaton is D2750 and it's new Atom family.
Google will tell you I'm right.

ok well that explains slower than USB 3 speeds but 350gb in 12 hours is well below USB 2 surely? They're not pissy small files either, they're HD mkv's so anywhere between 3gb and 20gb
Hey buddy, you know that vmware have their own knowledge base and forum right? I believe your problem will be better solved there.

I am using gnoboot 10.3 with DSM 5.0 update 2, all working fine.
May I know how to update gnoboot to 10.5??
Thanks.
Make a new bootable vmdk using gnoboot 10.5 and replace your current one.

Up to now ESXi supports only USB 2.0.
It's a software limitation.
-
Yeah, that's a pity.
I used No-IP from the beginning, working well.
-
work perfectly
OpenSSL 1.0.1g-fips 7 Apr 2014
thanks a lot;)
how can you check to see what version of openssl you have?.
vi /etc.defaults/VERSION
majorversion="5"
minorversion="0"
buildphase="release"
buildnumber="4458"
smallfixnumber=2
builddate=2014/04/09
Please read posts carefully, I said if your builddate is earlier than 2014/04/09 then you should take action.
Also you can issue
openssl version
in your terminal to see your openssl version. The openssl 1.0.1g had the bug fixed.

guys, any help would be appreciated!!!
Gnoboot take driver request personally, please go to his website gnoboot.me or post under his main release post to get his attention.

I would like to know if gnoboot works for the mediasmart servers. as of now i know it does not work on all the laptops ive tried so far.
Why don't try it out yourself?
XPEnology won't harm your data before you perform install action. Simply try if your device will boot up with gnoboot and whether it is reachable from lan.

I wasn't really looking for any guarantees, just an explanation of how experiences here (data persists) was different to that on the guide (data is wiped).
Just out of interest although volumes are kept are apps and packages migrated?
Yes. But some packages need to be updated before start working again in DSM 5.0 stable version.
Meanwhile some people report their shared folder access privileges are lost, simple re-configure them using the web UI will do, no big deal.
I have no idea why the guide state the DATA is wipe, I myself and a lot of forum members successfully migrated from earlier version of DSM to the decent one using gnoboot.
Of course DATA cannot be preserved if your HDDs are not initialized with DSM from the very beginning, if that is what you concern.

I also have 4.2 and want to upgrade to DSM 5.
But I am running an SS4200 without a display (there is no video card) or keyboard (though there are USB ports).
Can this upgrade be done without a display/keyboard, just like Trantor's 4.2 install?
That can be challenging.
Gnoboot used a special method to treat original *.pat file so it need to be boot into another kernel environment instead of the one that runs ordinary DSM.
In other words you need to see the boot options while installing/migrating DSM.
When boot up with gnoboot, you'll see a count down while three options listed. If you want to install/migrate XPEnology, you must use keyboard to move your cursor to "gnoboot.me" and select it in order to proceed, that means at least a keyboard must be connected.
Meanwhile somebody in this forum successfully installed XPEnology on his buffalo NAS using gnoboot, he didn't connect a display, instead, he power the device on, wait 3 seconds and press down arrow, then enter, and he is lucky enough to get the right option.
I myself would suggest you edit the grub option within your boot device so you can enter the install/migrate environment automatically. After you installed XPEnology, you can restore the original files. This, I believe, is the best practice for a headless machine.

hi
Is it possible to extract Photo Station 6 from the SPK file and run it on a normal webserver?
The file can be extracted through winrar, but I don't know how to make it run on a webserver.
Is yes please post a guide.
Best Regards
Jakobsen
Both QNAP and Synology's Photo station are based on ZenPhoto, if I'm not making any mistake.
So, simply deploy ZenPhoto instead.

Hi
I've got a 4 disk Raid5 running on xpenology. All disks are plugged into my motherboard (mb has 4x sata)
I am thinking that I'd gain some speed moving the 4 disks to my dawicontrol raid-controller.. which is already sitting in my server.. but just not in use..
1. would I gain anything?
2. how will the raid5 filesystem react to being moved from what I assume is software raid to hardware raid?
3. is it important that disk1 is plugged into port 1 of the raidcontroller (etc)
Hope you guys can give some advice
Don't do that, will cause data lose.
Synology use a software raid based solution to form up the approach of elastic space and protection balanced SHR raid mode. Which is without any doubt, won't be supported by your raid-controller.
Meanwhile, I believed if you use your raid-controller to host the array, they show up as a single storage instead of several separated disks, and yes, DSM will see only one disk instead, so there are little chance to preserve existing data.

Is this the same procedure?
http://cyanlabs.co.uk/news/install-xpen ... thout-esxi
If so, how do you get around the wipe? The tutorial seems to imply that all HDs are wiped.
If you proceed exactly as the guide say, when you search your box from Synology assistant it will show up as "migratable" instead of "DSM not installed", if your HDDs are already initialize by earlier version of DSM.
Of course nobody can assure you of anything, things can always go wrong, so backup your data first is recommended. If you want perfect data protection and tech support, go for a REAL Synology device.

HI I can't update DSM. I have installed DSM 5 and it says there is update 2 so I download it and write this
sed 's/flashupdateDeb/flashupdateDeb1/' /autoupd@te.info > /autoupd@te.info1
but terminal says No such file or directory
I've tried also to download update one, transfer to the dsm and then stop when it prompts me to shut down, then write this same command and same response.
Somebody help me?
Obviously you are not reading the guide carefully enough.
1. Download update 2 inside the Web UI control panel, DO NOT click ok when it said something like "update will take some time, don't power off your device blah blah blah..."
2. SSH to your XPEnology, issue the commands, one by one, first go first, and second go second.
3. Go back to your Web UI control panel, now click ok and wait.
4. Do them exactly in the order described, otherwise you fail.
5. Yes, it will work if only you do them in correct order.

On the bottom of page one antelo gave an example about how to do it.
Docker DSM and Virtual DSM
in Archives

Now Synology support both.
Which is more than fantastic. From my aspect of view docker abstract the layers and allow us to replace them with suitable ones.
But I have yet been able to get my hands on that, anybody can share the docker image or virtual disk provided by Synology?
