  1. I don´t know what to do

    So this is likely tricky, since its the root partition you cant grow it while using it, it would require a rescue disk like knoppix or similar and if you have all the disk capacity in use it might require deleting existing volumes to grow out the root partition and then recreate the volumes.

    If you don't have any important data in your volumes I would backup, delete the existing volumes using synology, boot into a rescue CD and use fdisk/parted tool to see what the partitions look like. The other issue is the disks are in a raid I assume so growing a raid partition would require the right tool for that raid. I would recommend searching the synology forums for advice on this as I have never done this before and do not have the means to test it.

    this might be helpful http://serverfault.com/questions/272776 ... nux-myself

    it says synology hybrid raid (shr) uses linux mdadm and lvm and multiple partitions to allocate all the space. If possible you could grow the lvm partition for root with the rescue cd and then add back the volumes and restore your data.

    mdadm partition resizing: https://raid.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/Growing

    LVM resizing: http://www.tecmint.com/extend-and-reduce-lvms-in-linux/

    the process is complicated where you could shrink your volumes in lvm and mdadm where space is available and expand the root volume with the free'd up space. If you ever wanted to re-install you would have to do this all over again. If you do have to re-install the system, I would consider not setting up any shr when provisioning, boot from rescue disk to expand the root volume to the size you like and then setup shr with the remaining space using the synology disk tools.

    Sorry I couldn't be more helpful, might consider setting up a VM with 5 virtual disks and try creating your own shr partition layout like synology has done, and proof of concept the work before trying it on your own array.

    I´m thinking formating the hole system and installing it again. I have 4 disks inside:

    - 320 Gb => Datastore

    - 5Tb, 3Tb , 2Tb => raw disks into xpenology

    If I format de 320Gb disk and reagregate the other disk, I supouse that I´ll lost all the data.

    Maybe I can try to move all the data to the 3 and 2 tb disks, remove the 5 Tb disk and plug-it like a external disk, backup al the data to the external disk and start all again but... puffffffffffffffffff

  2. thi is the output

    DiskStation> df -h

    I have to say that weeks ago I had a problem with xpenology and I had to reinstall it....

    any clue how to resolve this issue?

  3. Hi,

    I have my current ESXI datastore on a 320Gb 7200rpm drive and now I installed a Samsung 250Gb SSD. What I want is to remove the 320Gb drive and make the new SSD drive the datastore. The installation it´s completed and I can see the new datastore on vSpehere, but hot to migrate my current VM-s to the new datastore?

    What I think to do is :

    - Shutdown the VM

    - Browse the datastore and move VM files to the new datasore from vSphere

    - Edit the VM and set the new path for files

    - power up and pray

    - repeat for each VM

    is it the correct and fastest why to do this?

    Thanks

  4. I have my microserver with 3 disks and now it says that the volumen1 has beed chrased and it´s in read only mode.

    This is my configuration:

    Volumen1 => 2Tb disk

    Volumen2 => 5Tb disk

    Volumen3 => 3Tb disk

    what to do? every disk is a basic volume... I need to remove the volumen1 but if do this everything will work correctly? I ask because I supouse that everything is installed on volumen1....

    Any help or clue?

  5. Hi,

    I changed one drive from my synology and when it started I see that I was missing my Download Station on the descktop.

    If I go to Package control and launch it gives me an error telling that Database is upgrading, try it later.

    Any help?

    I´ve got the last OS, DSM 5.2-5644 Update 2

    Update: I changed my disk because it was small and it was full. Maybe running out of space caused a problem?

  6. hi!

    I´ve got an HP Gen8 with this installation:

    - ESXI installed on a 4Gb USB Pendrive

    - 320Gb (7200rpm) drive where I have my datastore and VMs

    - Debian. Lamp server (Port 80). Also OwnCloud (Data stored on my XPnology)

    - Linux Mint. Django app server. Port 8000 (Can´t use 80 because it's used by debian vm

    - XPnology. port 5001

    And then I have some hard drive assigned to XPnology (pass throught):

    - 2Tb WD Green (my files, time machine... synology app-s are installed there)

    - 3Tb WD Red (Downloads, movies, tv shows...)

    Now I bought a WD 5Tb disk and I want to rebuild my set up. I was thinking removing the 320Gb drive, witch is the noisiest.

    Removing this drive, I need a new datastore.. witch disk should I use? the 5tb disk? or Is it worth buying a SSD? would I see any improvement?

    Anyway, how should I procceed to remove my current datastore and move everything to the new without any data lost?

    Any help or advice?

  7. Buenas,

  8. Hi!

    I´ve got my Microserver g8 with xpenology and step by step it is working ok... now I want to copy some data that I´ve got on a external hard drive. It is very slow to copy by lan so I think to plug it onto Microserver Usb... it is posible? how?

  9. I recently bought MicroServer g8 and I have xpenology installed by ESXI in a 8gb USB and a datastore on a 320GB hard disk. I have now added a new hard drive, WD Green 2TB with the passthough method.

    Now it's time to create volumes in DSM right?? I can see that I have 3 discs (USB where esxi is, the 320GB disk where the VM are (debian and XPenology) and the new WD 2TB disk.

    I don´t know what is the best option so I click next all the time during the volume wizard, so I think I created a single raid but I´m not going nothing more (I can delete the volume if necesary) until I know that I´m doing it right.

    Given that I will gradually adding more disks, which is the most optimal? How would you do it ??? disc are formated on ext4 right?

    One more question, is it posible to unplug one hard drive from de HP microserver and plug it to another computer to read/write ?

    Thanks in advance

  10. Buenas,

  11. Hi,

    I bought a Microserver g8 some days ago and now I´ve got it with a Esxi installed and 2 VM: 1 debian and 2 XPnology.

    Now I added a 2Tb WD Green disk to the server, created and array in the controller and I want this disk to be used by Xpnology (more will come in the future). How or witch is the best way to add disk disk to Xpnology? Do I need to create a new Virtual Disk in the VM with the disk size?

    thanks in advance
