That makes sense, thanks

I think DSM itself is limited to 8 cores, and that will include hyperthreaded too... So my dual L5630 with 16 'cores' only uses 8 of them.If that is true, how does the synology FS3017 have Intel Xeon E5-2620 v3 (two of them)? so does this product not utilize all cores then?
-
One more question,
Can Xpenology DSM 6.0.2 bootloader use dual xeons (will all cores be used) or will only some work and others be switched off?
Thanks
I have the following system:
Intel Dual X5650 Xeon
32GB ECC RAM
LSI 9211-8i card flashed to IT mode
5 x 3 TB Red, 3 X 2 TB Red drives
Intel 540 SSD
Intel x540T2 Nic

Thanks, Dutch.
Does anyone know if the LSI 9211-8i card will work with this bootloader v2.2? I didn't see it in the drivers page.
What's the difference with this bootloader vs Jun's?
-
I just have a quick question,
If I use the bootloader v2.2 found on the first page, can I install it directly to USB and use it as a standalone system. I don't want to use it as VM.
Also, when quicknick releases the v2.3, how can I use the latest bootloader? On the current v2.2 does creating new volume with btrf work or would I need to wait for v2.3?
Thanks, great work by the way.

Thanks for the quick reply, so all I would need to do is change the synoconfig file to allow SHR?
How likely is this to fix the issue so I can at least backup my data?

So I just upgraded my DSM 5 to 6 (using USB to load Jun 1.01 loader), but am running to serious issue.
After restart my SHR1 raid (8 drives total) says crashed. There are 2 drives that are mounted as external devices (which I believe is why it says crashed), I am just afraid I will lose all my data if I don't get this fixed.
I tried to attach picture but doesn't let me.
I would really appreciates anyone who can help be fix this so I can backup my data.
Please help!

Also updated my dsm 5.2 (Esxi) to 6.0 works fine with some issues:
1. My photo station icon link redirects to the dsm webpage, the port goes to 5000 instead of 80/443. Can someone provide a fix for this?
2. Cloud station not able to connect via synology cloud station application. Has anyone else had these issue?
Thanks and great work!

Thanks, quick question:
will i be able to upgrade from DSM 5.2-5967 Update 2, on the post you have provided link, it says "You need to be under DSM 5.2 to make the migration to DSM 6.0. If you are under 5.1 or below first update to 5.2".

Hi, I am been trying to upgrade my DSM 6 on Esxi 6u2 host but cant't seem to figure out which loader file to use.
So basically, I have an SSD (datastore) that is used to store my dsm 5 as well as other VMs (Plex server).
Would upgrading from dsm 5 to 6, cause loss of any data on my physical HDDs (SHR raid) if I migrate?
Can you provide some steps I can follow as well as links to which loader/VM image you used to achieve this?
Thanks

victortrass wrote: Do you have DSM on separate logical disk for your VMs? I have DSM on an usb stick and data on HDDs, it should works but I don't know because my system is HP microserver gen8 baremetal, try to install a vm with dsm 5 and update it first. The loader download has a boot image for VMs, try it!
So I have my DSM on an SSD which contains my plex ubuntu server as well.
Question: If I install a VM with dsm 5 and update it and use my HDDs to load my data onto DSM, if something was to go wrong with DSM 6 update on that VM, will it mess up my data on HDDs or is it isloated since it doesn't write to HDDs but instead to SSD?
Can you link in the page where the loader has has the image to use for VMs?
Thanks for your help.

EDIT: follow this thread viewtopic.php?f=2&t=22100, it works for me updating from 5.2.5644, use jun's loader v1.1, find.synology.com, migrate, install manually last update from dsm, wait until reboot, find.synology.com again, and voila! update then to update 3 of dsm 6.0.2 directly from dsm no problem.
Does this process work on ESXI 6u2 as well?? Since I use SSD to hold my VMs including DSM 5.2-5967, can I just load the necessary files on datastore SSD?
If you can please provide some instructions, that would be really helpful. I just don't want to loose all my stuff on the SHR volume.

Will migrating from DSM 5 to DSM 6 cause to loose any data on SHR raid when upgrading?
Can you provide a link to the image file to use?
Thanks

Hi, I got the intel x520-da2 and was wondering how to setup so my xpenology can utilize it.
I have connected the ESXI server running xpenology is a VM and have direct connected it to a PC with another intel x52-da2.
What do I need to setup inside my xpenology VM options and inside the synology interface?
Thanks

so will this work, my Xpenology is running version 5.2-5967 Update 1.
The card is: Broadcom NetExtreme II BCM957710A1020G and includes GBIC module
Will this work if I connect my xpenology on one end and a PC on the other end using this cable:

Any replies would be great.

Lol! I want faster speeds for transferring large video files onto the xpenology server.
Anyone else know if the mentioned nic would work for xpenology along with the cable to connect the server to the PC directly without needing a 10gb switch?
Thanks

Hi, I was wondering if you guys know if this 10gb card would work?

The reason I can't use the SFP+ cable is because the distance is about 40 feet from the server.
Thanks

Hi everyone, this is my first xpenology build and I am running into 3 issues.
1. Every time I restart my server, I keep getting an error saying my drives should be changed to IDE mode. I have tried to change it to AHCI and choose "not installed" for each of the hard drives, but on restart the settings go back to IDE.
Is there a fix for this issue?
2. I cannot get my DDNS to work out correctly from Synology. I read on the forum that I need to enter serial and/or MAC address in order to get this to work.
It is mentioned on the forum to edit syslinux file but how do I exactly do that? And what exactly do I need to do?
3. My xpenology system doesn't show my cpu correctly, I have dual Intel Xeon X5650's and it shows and i3 processor, does this mean that either of the CPUs are not detected?
Does xpenology support dual CPUs?
My System:
CPU: 2 Intel Xeon X5650
Mobo: Supermicro X8DTE
RAM: Hynix 4 x 4GB (16GB) HMT151R7BFR4C
Case: Supermicro 3U (SC933)
HD: 3 x 2 TB WD RED, 1 x 3 TB WD RED
Thanks in advance

I tried running on FreeNAS but was unable to get the various packages to work together (nzbget, sonarr, transmission) and I find the DSM interface to be much better. I had previously installed DSM 5.2 but now want the DSM 6 since it has some nice features added.
quicknick, when will v2.3 be released?
