    Hi,
I have to check it. Right now i do not remember exact name of internal flash drive. But im sure there is a secondary drive, which must be disabled to avoid confusion with boot order configuration.

Thanks for offering help. I found the problem, it was the test USB boot I used (TinyCore written with balenaEtcher). When I used OMV (on the same USB stick, also written with balenaEtcher) the changed BIOS settings stuck. I used no special settings in BIOS, just changed the boot priority (disabled the internal flash).

Which is the correct BIOS setting (besides changing the boot priority order) for disabling the internal flash?

I found these two that looks plausible in AMI BIOS version 2.14.1219 (2011):

    • Advanced tab: Launch Storage OpROM: Enabled
    • Boot tab: Option ROM Messages: Force BIOS

Or is it a combination of several settings that needs to be done?

I am a bit concerned, since I'v read threads about people bricking the device after playing around in the BIOS.

  3. Is it possible to install DSM 7.1 on ReadyNAS RN312? Is the platform powerful enough?

    Platform: Netgear ReadyNAS RN312
CPU: Intel Atom CPU D2701, 2.13 GHz, 2 cores, 2 threads, microarchitecture: Saltwell (2011)
Closest match in Intel's public database is Atom D2700: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/59683/

    Number of drives: 2
    Memory: DDR3L, 4 GB, 1066 MHz
    BIOS: AMI v. 2.14.1219 (2011)
    Other: HDMI out works.

I noticed that @Homeless managed get DSM 6.1 running on RN312:

Booting up plain TinyCore went fine on my RN312. Although I could not get the changed boot priority order to stick. After reboot RN312 forced the boot priority back to default. It's a bit unclear if @Homeless was able to make the new BIOS settings stick (with which changed BIOS settings?) or if the boot order was manually overridden on each boot.

I got quite confused by all the different loaders and DSM versions to choose from. Like this thread:
    DSM 7.x Loaders and Platforms
    https://xpenology.com/forum/topic/61634-dsm-7x-loaders-and-platforms/

Which DSM version and loader would be the best for RN312?
