FYI: I have written an email to Synology due to the release of source code of DSM6. I cannot post the original answer here, but the core message is as follows:
- DSM 6.0.2 will be available in the coming weeks
- DSM 6.0.2 will be the candidate for the DSM GPL source
- It is expected to be released around early Q4 this year
I think this is pretty good news for you, guys! Let's hope the DEV team will start their work as soon as the source is available. I will be happy to contribute, someone of the DEV team please contact me via PM.

I think that guy deserves our support. Donations can be sent via paypal to sancome@nanoboot.eu.org.
Let's hope a new Nanoboot is in the works.
Let's hope Sancome is back! -
can i install xpenology (any version) on a Hp gen8?
n54l can take 6 drives but i think that Hp gen8 can only take up to 5 discs because there isn't eSATA on the back of Hp gen8.. only USB ports.. am i missing something?
Yes, is possible.
I got a HP Gen 8 microserver upgraded with a XEON processor and 16 Gb ram ... And have a hyper V environment with DSM 5.0 running.
Is it possible to have six drives on a Gen8 case like n54l on the ODD space? does have 6 Sata connection?
Guys, I kindly ask you to stick to the Topic: DSM 5.1.

Here is a good list of the pro and cons: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=535
I personally tried ESXi, but switched to Bare-Metal. I think that a big advantage of NASes is redundancy, and the problem about ESXi is that S.M.A.R.T data is not available to DSM. Thus, the hypervisor has to handle disk failure, and I have no clue what happens when a disk fails.

I highly recommend to put the Source of Nanoboot and Gnoboot on Github.

Hi Folks,
I am using the all-standard config at home (N54L + Hotswap Mod + ESXI + DSM 5.0 + RDM Passthrough + SHR w/ 3 disks). We all know that RDM does not pass the S.M.A.R.T. data to DSM, so I installed the great PHP-workaround from here: http://www.xpenology.nl/smart-data-voor ... ugh-disks/ to monitor the status.
Nevertheless, I am still worried I could miss when an hdd fails. On a regular diskstation, I get a push notification on my mobile if DSM detects a SMART-error. and I can also check the status be the LED's on the front.
My questions are:
- What happens right now if a disk fails? Will ESXI know and shut down the VM? What should I do by then?
- Is there any possibility to be notified instantly?
Cheers

This indeed fixed the issue. However, I cannot log in to my synology account in dsm due to an "unkown error". Has anyone been successful so far?
