a few months back i started to get grub errors on cold boot too, i ignored it and eventually it just failed to boot at all. no surprises really :)
i flashed a new usb drive and everything returned to normal
the usb stick had failed completely after iirc, 4 years. so it did well for some random no name cheap thumb drive

Hi,
It's been a while since i used Xpenology, i wanted to run it on my old HP Proliant MicroServer Gen8 again, and i created the USB a i used to - i think....
But i can't get an ip for the server, i've copied the "extra" file into the image, but that don't seem to help....

Thanks...read back a few pages in this thread.

I would like to do a baremetal on a HP gen8 server (actually an upgrade). To run the most recent version of DSM, is it correct only loader 1.04b does the job? If so, I can only use the ds918+ image. What should i use as a serial number? I did not find a serial generator. Can I use a serial of a ds3516?
MVER, see read three posts above yours
so i read that post as G8 is sandy bridge arch, so you should stick to 1.03b and 3615/3617...

indeed. many thanks for the matrix
now i can be confident on the upgrade to 1.03b and 3617 (G8 with 1260L cpu, so no 918 for me )

Sorry for the late reply. Bought from eBay .au no expiry date that i was aware of.
It is however an older iLo4 key. Apparently they were discontinued and thats why it was cheap.
So the seller said ....

...hit "repair" and all is fine now, but extreme laggy
is it laggy because the repair is still under way ?

No real idea if this will help ... but have you tried at step 7 selecting the reinstall option ?
When i did my Gen 8 I followed the same tutorial. I dug out the PID and VID and SERIAL and Network MAC from the old 5.2 boot loader usb stick
Another thing you might try is to have a spare HDD installed as the only drive, and try and do an install to that.
If that were to work, you could just drop in your other drives a couple at a time and let DSM do an upgrade on each drive

Just updated to DSM 6.1.4-15217 Update 1 OK
HP Gen 8 micro sever
Juns 1.02b loader, ds3615xs, baremetal
Looks like it was a very soft restart, as my L2Tp connection didnt drop ??
Either way I'll do a proper reboot and see what happens ...
Just confirming - a warm restart and everything looks good L2Tp connection alive and linux ISOs seeding

HP Gen 8 microserver baremetal install no raid arrays or anything fancy, 6.1.4 all OK here

edit - all working well so far. and i got an updated LMS at the same time.

take an image of the drive and keep a copy of the software to alter the PID and VID. zip it all up and dont store it on the box like i did
