  1. Thanks for your suggestions.

    1) It is starting, however there is not much seen in the console: "Loading Linux - Loading initramfs - Starting kernel with SATA boot"

    2) It doesn't get an IP from my router

    3) Matching MAC adresses: Is there more to do than "./rploader.sh serialgen DS918+ realmac" ?

    Quote

    tc@box:~$ ./rploader.sh serialgen DS918+ realmac
Serial Number for Model = 1790PDN001168
    Mac Address for Model DS918+ = 00:11:32:A3:15:19
    Real Mac Address : 00:0C:29:46:3B:70
Notice : realmac option is requested, real mac will be used

    4) MAC address changes were already accepted, I didn't neet to modify

  2. Just a short feedback.

After installing loader 1.02b and DSM 6.1.4 as initial installation, all went fine, including updates to 6.1.7 Update 2.

Now, the 10GBase-T card is recognised and shown in the virtual DS3615xs.
As soon as the second one is up and the network 10G ready, I'm going to do some speed tests from hp Server to hp Server ...

  3. As mentioned on several threads, the use of E1000e Adapter is mandatory to run 6.2 on ESXi 6.7.
However, this has limitations on the speed.
In my Microserver I have a 10GBase-T card, and with a virtual PC I have a 10GB connection (VMXNET3), with the XPE Synology (E1000e) it stays on 1GB.
Is there any hope, that this might get changed sometimes with a new loader?
I'd really love to backup from server to server over a 10GB link.

  4. Outcome of the installation/update: SUCCESSFUL

    - DSM version prior update: DSM 6.2.1-23824 Update 1

    - Loader version and model: JUN'S LOADER v1.03b - DS3615xs

    - Using custom extra.lzma: NO

    - Installation type: VM - ESXi 6.7 on hp ProLiant DL360p Gen8 (Dual Intel Xeon CPU E5-2640 @ 2.50GHz)

    - Additional comments: None

  5. Technically, the Synology NAS and Routers might not be that far apart.
Has anyone looked into the possibility, to virtualize a Synology Router, e.g. the MR2200ac, primarily for the router and firewall functions?
    Or is this absolutely impossible?

    Thanks for your thoughts ...

  6. I installed it step by step according to this thread on 3 different ESXi servers without any issues.
In the first step I chose synoboot.vmdk out of the zip file, linked under step one, the synoboot.img in step two I took out of the synoboot_3615.zip that can be downloaded via the link in step 2.

One exception: Instead of the .pat in step 3 I downloaded the newest version directly from the synology server. No issues with 6.2.1 - Update 1.

Then, I first installed it with two discs only, Sata 0.0 for the synoboot.vmdk in step one.
As second disc I added a new 8GB disc on Sata 1.0.

Additional discs I added after the VM is running as Sata 1.1 and Sata 1.2.

If you've not followed the instructions correctly and did not remove the CD player, the system might try to boot from CD and you have two options:
Remove the CD Player or adjust the boot order in the BIOS.

Hope, this helps you troublesooting ...

  9. Don't think, that many people come to such a weird solution.

Just try it out and let us know, how this scenario performs - if you get it running properly  :-)

  10. This morning I rebooted the vm (by a shutdown and restart on the ESXi GUI) and it did not come up properly.
I could not access it in any way, therefore I needed to set it up again ...
This time, I first enabled SSH before any other config, and now, I have the access through SSH.

Unfortunately, I need the Logitech Media Server users to setup their clients again, as all settings are lost.

But then, I should be able to backup the server.prefs file with all the settings ...

  11. I thought on that as well, but it isn't a baremetall installation, it's an ESXi virtual machine.
Maybe I find a way, to open or mount a .vmdk (VMware Disc File) and change the ssh settings.
    Need to read a bit.

Installed a second vm and retried to reproduce ... but on this machine it works.

But the reason for enabling SSH was to to backup the /volume1/@appstore/SqueezeCenter/prefs directory of the Logitech Media Server.
There all presets are stored ... I hope, I find a way to read that directory, then I could reinstall everything and restore the settings.

  12. Hi IG-88,

no, the network is okay and the DS3617 VM is still running.

On the 3617xs I have the Logitech Media Server and the SFTP server running.
I can still connect to both ... All Logitech players are still working and I can up- and download from the VM.

The connection to the GUI does not work and of course, SSH doesn't work as it was not enabled before the GUI froze.

  13. Hi there,

I tried to enable SSH (port 22) on a virtual DS3617.

The GUI freezes and SSH is not enabled.
The vm is still running, but I can't access the GUI anymore.
    .

Any idea, how to fix it, wihtout reinstalling everything?

    My installation:
    Bootimage 1.02b on ESXi 6.5

    DS3617xs
    DSM 6.1.3-15152 Update 1

  14. I don't see a reason for a modified ILO.

On my Gen 8 Microserver with Xeon I run version 2.53 with ESXi 6.5.

Besides XPEnology I run a Windows 10 VM and my fans run between 12% & 15% and go a bit higher, when there is temporarily heavy load on the processor.

But, the fans are there to keep the system in an optimal temperature environment, so, I don't want to mess around with it.

And 12% - 15% is quiet ... from my point of view :-)

  15. Update from 6.1.2 to 6.1.3 on DS3615xs (ESXi 6.5) did not work,

Did a snapshot before the update but cannot go back ...

DS3615xs is found with a new IP and the system wants to restore it, but without success ...

    So be careful ...

I dig a bit to find out, what's going wrong.

  16. maybe some modifications of the following part of grub.cfg?

    function loadlinux {
            set model=$1
            set bootdev=$2
            shift 2
            if [ -n $vid -a -n $pid ]; then
                    set usb_args="vid=$vid pid=$pid"
            fi
            eval "set common_args=\"\$common_args_$model\""
            eval "set extra_args=\"\$extra_args_$model\""
            eval "set bootdev_args=\"\$${bootdev}_args\""
            common_add_option_ex rootdev root
            common_add_option sn
            if common_add_option mac1; then set netif_num=1; fi
            if common_add_option mac2; then set netif_num=2; fi
            if common_add_option mac3; then set netif_num=3; fi
            if common_add_option mac4; then set netif_num=4; fi
            common_add_option netif_num
        if [ -z $zImage ]; then
            set zImage=zImage
        fi
            linux $img/$zImage $common_args $bootdev_args $extra_args $@
    }
