I don't think so. I've read it here that you need to enable/disable RDM filter to make it work. I just couldn't remember which thread it was.
You have it all here sir:

How to check HDD SMART status:
1. Shut down Synology VM
2. Clear the RDMFilter flag on your ESXi server:
- Configuration - Software - Advanced Settings - RdmFilter.HbaIsShared=OFF - Click OK
3. Start Synology VM
4. SSH login
5. Check the first RDM drive in the array:
- smartctl -a /dev/sda
smartmontools (smartctl) works with RDM drives in terminal of DSM, but DSM uses synodisk (synology tool) to read temps, and it returns -1 when I guess it doesn't have access to the controller.

@gnoBoot: Do you think it's possible to get SMART working running gnoBoot and Synology DSM in ESXi with Raw Disk Mapping?
I don't think so. I've read it here that you need to enable/disable RDM filter to make it work. I just couldn't remember which thread it was.
QUESTION: Can't synodisk be patched to work like smartctl does?

Quick connect it's a Synology service and uses their servers.
You shouldn't/couldn't use it unless you have payed for their hardware.
Configure any other Dynamic DNS service insted.

yes.
You need to have a separate volume for storing your VMs.

Although I've not posted on the forums I have followed them assiduously and constructed a very reliable NAS based on an HP Proliant N54L as a result of the information I found here.
I would like to also add my thanks to Trantor and Gnoboot for their very worthwhile work

So, performance wise, is there any addenda to the ESXI Idiots guide to get the best out of a N54L?
Shouldn't the linux version be 3.4 (as stated in synology's website) instead of 2.6, for instance?
thx
